- In this video I discuss my thoughts on plugin subscriptions and how beneficial rent to own subscriptions can be. Over the years I have done a fair few subscriptions and when it came to ending the subscriptions I ran into various issues.

I don’t do subscriptions but the Plugin Alliance looked nice to me, if I could do a rent to own I would probably get some plugins that are too expensive now. I would love to get the Louder than Liftoff which is almost never on sale. Or maybe the Curve Bender which is on sale now for 89,- 😮 Damn I want to safe for a Bus-compressor (hardware only for now) Neh, I have enough plugins 😅
yep was with SSL as well but dislike that too I did talk to Fabfilter about a rent to own some years ago but they said they would not consider maybe they may reconsider now! As yep I do think its the way to go as the amount of plugs their are you can not buy them all to try and sometime the demo period is not long enough to establish if it will be a staple in the work flow
I like the UAD spark bundle subscription, rent to own with it would be great but I think thats too much to ask
I agree with you Paul. I kind of like the buy and own the plugin out right idea as well. Subscriptions are not going to happen with me. It is like Waves. I will never buy anything from them no matter what. What they did not long ago to the customers was enough for me.
Yes I agree. I was stung with the upgrade fee. I won't be stung again.
Ah well, I was pissed off at Waves too but they have some good ones that I like so I still bought them. I don’t have to worry about updates because my system is rather old, I can’t upgrade without buying new converters (32 i/o) and a new computer which will be at least 4000 bucks. Those plugins are slowly replaced by hardware anyway because I’m an analog freak mixing on a console 😊
Subscription might be a decent option if you are a professional earning decent money I guess, if you are a bedroom producer or someone more casual it's a non starter - the rent to own is a good model though
Right on the money as always Paul. Are there any plans for a rent-to-own system for the "Samples" section of the Audio Animals website? I have some of your plugins which I bought on sale, and I love them (especially at the price I paid) and they get used regularly. Your instrument catalog is diverse and quite unique compared to other vendors, and if I had the money, I'd get the lot. I'd even subscribe to the damn thing lol
Thank you, that's great to hear. We have no way currently of adding a subscription model into the instruments as we like to include the wav samples in the downloadable content also. By including the wav sample content, it makes it impossible to do a subscription. However, thinking about it. We could make the subscription content instrument download only. And perpetual download include the wav samples in the sowbload. If we do decide to do this, we would make it rent to own. A £9.99 subscription and each month, you'd own an instrument of your choosing. I feel that's the fairest way for the consumer. At the moment though we plan on having a new instrument and sample pack on sale each week at £9.99.

Rent to own definetely. Also, cloud licence plugins which do not work without internet are a PITA. Can not use them when internet is unreliable or even worse, might cause drops in the recording because the computer is busy doing those calls…
I have uad pci duo since about 10years and decided to get spark…I thought I never will! But 20ish a month is not a lot…I spend 80 on tobacco soo 😂
Wouldn't you prefer if Spark was rent to own though? Each year got 2 plugins of your choice
Rent to own is definitely the way forward. Subscription is a ripoff. I’ve got the SSL infrastructure but I haven’t bought any of the plugins yet because they only do subscription. All I’ve got is the plugins I got with the units. They offer deals. But only on plugins I don’t want. And the deals they do offer on the plugins I want are almost as much as the original plugin. SSL should seriously consider doing something about this
SSL even added a plugin a while ago that was exclusive to the subscription. That's a move I didn't like. Really trying to tie you into a subscription with that one.
