Hey Matt, Thanks for the video, did everything step by step, and my clutch on my VTX 1300 grabs exactly where I would like it to grab now, before it was grabbing all the way out towards the other end, no good. Thanks again, man very helpful 👍😁
Engine should warmed up to adjust free play? I have yamaha yz450f 2013. If i adjust free play on cold engine, all works good until engine warmed up. When its warmed up i have 2 times bigger free play and clutch dont work properly. So if i adjust on hot engine free play, like in your video, all works good, but when engine cooled down, i dont have any free play on lever. Its good, or i have problems with my clutch?
My Yz250f 2005 was running fine. I recently switched my front clutch and brake levers on my bike and it started acting up. When I pull in the clutch and I put it in First Gear, my bike starts moving forward while I am still holding in the clutch. What's the problem here and how can it be fixed?? PLEASE HELP
Too much slack in the cable. It might not seem like it at first but it is true. With bike off and in 1st gear, squeeze clutch and see if you can walk the bike fwd. If you cannot, keep taking slack out of the cable until you are able to walk the bike fwd. Then set your lever slack to recommended gap and you should be good to go. I swapped my clutch and brake levers last week and same thing happened to me. I didnt realize it was too loose right away because the bike acted normal at first.
I just replaced my clutch cable and followed this illustration but I find that I can put it in neutral without pulling the clutch leaver (is this proper)
I have a crf80f 2007 clutch dont engage I pull the lever and clutch dont work feels like a semi its like not pushing in idk if am doing something wrong I tray to adjust the cable and the cover and nothing wen it's off same
Fire extinguisher, safety glasses and gloves. Really. Good thing you are just a mechanic. Riding motorcycles is dangerous. You must have a riding Bubble suit I hope.
adrian miller your clutch plates are going bad. Probably from improperly adjusted. What you describe is "power distribution ". One of clutches jobs is to evenly distribute the power. If it's wrong. Your motor slips.
I have a 1979 Honda 250 supper dream, it has fuel, a gooood spark to the plugs, 150 psi on a compression test but it will not start.can anyone help ??????
bad timing is the culprit then? Nowadays you have these mini wired cameras that you can put in the cylinder to see what's exactly not being delivered / how stuff is being delivered. check fuel delivery from the carb first, try to also start it without the air filter. Still doesn't start, we're dealing with something major like a worn camshaft? Although if the cam was worn the drive would've been erratic in general the last time it worked.. if you still keep that bike i suppose it was a good one, so why not keep it in running condition for the nostalgia.
If you need a fire extinguisher to adjust a clutch cable then you should find a new hobby.
Thank you Matt, explained very well with proper illustration.
Where does the fire extinguisher come in i’m confused
When your clutch cable explodes into flames, DUH! 😛
the fie extinguisher got me real good. hahaha

"It's also a good idea to have a fire truck on standby just in case you overtighten the clutch cable"
I just replaced my clutch cable and followed this illustration but I find that I can put it in neutral without pulling the clutch leaver (is this proper)
So my bike clutch is vertical weak or smooth you can move it with your pinky it has a new clutch so i did something and i cant fix it anymore

My clutch isn't engaging till i completely let go of the lever. Is it just adjusted wrong, or is the clutch bad?
just adjusted wrong probably
You are the boss ever... ✌ 😊

Curious what the insurance company says
About what?
For 2mm, u can use a nickle
What if u have a new clutch cable and your still out of ajustment
Then your cable might be wrong if its loads , they'll need slight adjustment anyway so you can actually get them on.
