I love this song. Its catchy as hell and I still love it today in 2020. The video is totally groovy I love the way the teenagers are line dancing and bopping around it's so fun. RIP Christian :(
Because it is Hell. The whole story of the Pied Piper is a similitude of the devil leading you down to Hell. The devil in disguise as the Pied Piper takes all of the villager's children by flattering the children, entertaining them, etc. Then he leads them down to the river where he drowns them all. In the scriptures, the sea, water is the place where the devil, Leviathon, aka Satan has power, so he leads them to the river, the water, the sea. That's what the story of the Pied Piper is about. If you follow the Pied Piper, you will die. Another one that is a similitude of the devil is a story called Peter and the Wolf. The Wolf is the devil. Little Red Riding Hood, the wolf is the devil who pretends to be her grandmother at one point. It shows that throughout history, parents have watched as their children are taken away by the devil. These stories go way back but they all have the same theme, the devil lulling the children of God down to Hell.
As a drummer for 53 years, this was one of the 1st songs I "tried" to play. It was difficult, but I finally got the hang of it using my marching band cap. It's got that marching beat to it.
A Real Classic....I remember hearing this on the radio....I could never find out who did this....weird this song came to me this morning....It Shows a Great Song stays with U forever
I first listened to this song when I was living in Salt Lake City where there was a radio station that played only oldies. listening to it again brings back fond memories of Salt Lake City.
Well OK.... I came here from Kingslingers podcast, check it out, Dark Tower! I feel I should like you as they linked me with this 😁 Long days and pleasant nights 🌹
Well.......the video seems more than a little contrived to me....not "natural" at all. And that poor girl (second in line) has to make such an awkward effort with the lead guy holding her hands down like that: she seems so uncomfortable.
@blondwiththe wind...That's the way things were back then..everything was rehearsed and no music was live...all lip sync!!...I'm sure she was fine...they have it all planed before hand!!
Don't you just love it when you're driving your new grill home in the trailer of your pickup truck, and it falls out and rolls its way to your house while the whole town follows it to your house?
This is a better view of my generation than any other song with the possible exception of "Hey Mr. Tambourine man" Sixties kids were followers. it was their chief downfall.
**OH MAN. . .ARE U FUCKING KIDDING ME, MAN?!! AFTER READING THE "STORY" OF THIS YOUNG MAN'S LIFE, I STILL "LOVE" THIS SONG!! "I" USED TO SING/DANCE, TO THIS WHEN IT "FIRST" CAME OUT, I WAS 12YRS. OLD!!
This was played at my mam's funeral on 21st December 2017 as it was her favourite song of all time, so it was a no brainer to pick this song. It was the first song as we entered the crematorium and looking back it fitted it because it was like she was the pied piper and we were following her. We used to listen to this song all the time together, but today is the first time I have listened to it since my mams funeral. Tears have clearly flowed. I miss her so much
What was his real name...Crispian St. Peters - Pied Piper... He was born Robin Peter Smith in Swanley, Kent UK. (5 April 1939 - 8 June 2010) In 1966, St. Peters' career yielded a Top 10 hit in the UK Singles Chart, with "You Were on My Mind, /// A song written and first recorded in 1964 by the Canadian folk duo, Ian & Sylvia, and a hit in the United States for We Five in 1965. St. Peters's single eventually hit No. 2 in the UK and was then released in the US on the Philadelphia-based Jamie Records label. It did not chart in the US until after his fourth release, "The Pied Piper," became known as his signature song. It was a Top 10 hit in the United States and the UK. ( Wikipedia Crispian St. Peters )
Back in '66 when this song "dropped," I thought it was by a duo, "Crispy" AND "St. Peter!" A "heavenly" duet, right? I guess I really "dropped" the ball on that one! ha ha ha
Another cover that made it big...."The Pied Piper" is a pop song written by the duo of Steve Duboff and Artie Kornfeld, who first recorded it in 1965 as The Changin' Times. Their version reached #87 on the Billboard Hot 100
I've always liked this song.. but seems to me this is a slightly different recording than the one I remember... I think the version that was played on the radio came to a full ending, rather than a fade-out... but either way, it's a great song!
yes although this is an interesting version, definitely much different and as in most cases, i almost always prefer a cold ending to the cop out fade-out
Fantastic song! Brings back memories. Great performance in this video, but one thing is a little weird ... there's about 15 guys following him and only 2 girls. Either it's a coincidence, or ... hmmm (LoL)🙄
I love this song but it was used in a trailer for a movie about Ted Bandy so now everytime I hear it it makes me think of the pied piper being a serial killer.
Piped Piper? Wtf is this? Now that it's in a BBQ commercial it gets in your head all day. I bet I know what was in those pipes to make those kids... hmmmm...dance? 😲👌💨💚
Timeless song. Thanks for posting! Rest in peace, Crispian St. Peters.
The above clip was recorded in Melbourne, Australia on a popular music show in the sixties called The Go Show.
What a catchy infectious tune... Love it...
I love this song. Its catchy as hell and I still love it today in 2020. The video is totally groovy I love the way the teenagers are line dancing and bopping around it's so fun. RIP Christian :(
100% agree with you, Gary!
Teenagers? Half of Dave Clark 5 are there, some of Freddie and the Dreamers, plus other bands. Wow.!

It's not a complicated song with deep meaning. But it sure does look like a whole lot of fun!

Wow! I wish I was alive when people actually had fun! And I'm 36
Well.......the video seems more than a little contrived to me....not "natural" at all. And that poor girl (second in line) has to make such an awkward effort with the lead guy holding her hands down like that: she seems so uncomfortable.

It's really a great tune

This is a better view of my generation than any other song with the possible exception of "Hey Mr. Tambourine man" Sixties kids were followers. it was their chief downfall.

Classic hit
This is the coolest song ever and I dedicated to my best friend Timothy
This is from 'Go!!', Australian TV, 28th November 1966.
This song makes me think of Github repositories and middle-out compression as well as tip-to-tip optimization.
Here because Matt Wallace recommended it
When we were all still so innocent.
peaked at #4 in 1966 on the Billboard chart.
John Lennon said this was one of his favorite songs.
Classy of him after Crispian boasted about being a better songwriter than Lennon or McCartney. Still a great song, nevertheless
Ein ganz toller Song! RIP - Crispian St. Peters!
Final Stand brought me here. To the moon!!! #dogecoin
When I heard this song years ago back in the day when I was a kid I thought he said, "Come on babe, follow me, I'm the five flapper" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You didn't listen very well.
I was in my 20's about 40 years too late. This would of been really fun to do!
Don't you mean "in your 40's, anout 20 years too late"?
I'm surprised but thankful that he didn't cover "I Feel So Bad" by Jackie Edwards which this song reminds me of.
I heard the song when I was like 7 years old and I still love it what the hell is wrong with me?
I've always liked this song.. but seems to me this is a slightly different recording than the one I remember... I think the version that was played on the radio came to a full ending, rather than a fade-out... but either way, it's a great song!
You are 100% correct. It is just slightly different from the radio version. Good catch.
yes although this is an interesting version, definitely much different
and as in most cases, i almost always prefer a cold ending to the cop out fade-out
Fantastic song! Brings back memories. Great performance in this video, but one thing is a little weird ... there's about 15 guys following him and only 2 girls. Either it's a coincidence, or ... hmmm (LoL)🙄
if always liked this song 1965? way back in the day.
Gee i recall this song..so much better than the crap they play today...
That BBQ smoker commercial brought me here
No social distancing there 😁
Here we are a year later. I've been feeling so down I had to come here to listen to a happier time.
I love this song but it was used in a trailer for a movie about Ted Bandy so now everytime I hear it it makes me think of the pied piper being a serial killer.
Agreed 👌🌹👌
Piped Piper? Wtf is this? Now that it's in a BBQ commercial it gets in your head all day. I bet I know what was in those pipes to make those kids... hmmmm...dance? 😲👌💨💚
There it is Holley!!
❤❤❤
