Thanks for doing this video in this manner. It made it real easy to see the updates in one video instead of having to go hunting a bunch of separate update videos all over someone's channel! Also, I've got a 20L and your answer in the comments convinced me to get 3-4 small SAEs.
This is THE video I was looking for. For some reason the BBA for my tank is essentially only on the wood and rocks. I shall purchase 8 juvies and see what they do. Thanks for this video.
I bought 6 of these little fellas last week from a local fish supplier/store which is closing down...however they have all, but 1 - died. I saw a couple of their tanks with sorry looking fish. Maybe they were left and become sick. My one remaining fish is "living" on top of the filter munching away at algae and seems to be quite happy there...
Thanks for the info! ... A Little from me, leave the water level alone and put the net in a corner for a few minutes. You can use your hand to guide them to the net and scoop them out. Leave the opening towards a corner so they have to swim around, they will swim in on their own lol
I never had Siamese algae eaters but I did have Chinese algae eaters and had people asking me if my tank just got cleaned when my tank hadn’t been cleaned in three years💯
I'd probably say 3-4, but a 20 gallon will get to be cramped for them after some time. I'd try to get them as small as possible and then move them into a bigger tank after they eat the algae
Yes I did. Unfortunately this tank was taken down due to me not trusting the floors, but if you look at the last video I posted of it before taking it down you can see that’s it’s all gone iirc
Thinking about getting some SAE s but I'm getting mixed thoughts because I have cherry shrimp in my tank. Some ppl claim they don't mix well and others say it's fine. Thoughts?
Also hear they can be aggressive towards fish that look like them. I have salt and pepper cory/ pygmy corys / and otocinclus which all have the black line like the SAE
One of the best changes I have made is to replace mechanical media with foam. It will digest the detritus that enters your cannister instead of plugging it.
I have a few different kinds of media in there but it varies from filter to filter. The main thing I think is just to regularly service the filter which I don’t think a lot of people do (and I know I don’t do it enough). But ever month or two it makes a huge difference to remove the gross filter floss and back flush the filter as best as you can
@@ormsonaquariumdesign3587 twice I’ve bought SAE’s and they have eaten my Taiwan moss. This second time I bought them purposely to remove all the moss from my tank and they have succeeded.
This tank has a large colony of cherry shrimp, nerite snails, and otocinclus. I keep a clean up crew in all of my tanks, but SAE are the only fish who really do this with blackbeard algae.

great video! Nice to see another SC guy doing these!

Thanks for making this video. I just picked up two today to deal with my bba.
Nice video! I just ordered me some Siamese eaters. Thanks bro!

Nice tank
Good video - I have some on the way!
Great video. How many SAE would you recommend for a 20G high?

Did you completely get rid of bba? Update bruh

I’ve never had issues with otocinclus but they’ll 100% eat red cherry shrimp
These guys is awesome the only downside of them is they grew so big
How did you kill the algae?

do the SAE not eat your moss?
Sometimes
Bro you need more subs
SAE’s ate every bit of moss in my tank.
I’ve never heard of them touching moss. They don’t bother mine

That’s pretty wild, after a little research in seeing that some people have had similar experiences
Amano Shrimps, Snails and Siamese Algae Eaters will do the job for you.

No idea why people bother with Anubias. I never use it as it's a magnet for BBA
As long as you have good water quality you shouldn’t have to worry about BBA
