I'm from the cisco world and had a hard time wrapping my head around the UniFi product line configuration until I watched your video. This video was the aha moment. Nice Job and thank you for taking the time to share!

Went through multiple documents and so many forum links but only through this video it took me 2 minutes to figure out how to keep the native VLAN plus tagged VLANs together. Thank you very much for easy to understand video.

I can't speak highly enough about this video. After hours seeking instructions for setting up a shared tagged / untagged trunk, Mr. Viatto solved all my problems in 7 minutes. Thank you sir!

I have been managing Cisco and HP switches for years. When I bought UniFi for home, I went with a Netgate appliance for routing, which still looks mostly 'normal' in the VLAN config. But when I got to UniFi, I was totally confused. This video was spot on, and like others, gave me that 'aha' moment!! This was worth the price of admission!

Same. Unifi made me feel like I was a networking newb. Ironic, cause like you, I also have been managing enterprise networks and a variety of vendors for several years, and I'm used to the "normal" way and look of things.

Yep! #KeepingITSimple like you always do. Just added Ubiquiti to my home network and I spend 4 days trying to get this thing to work and I failed. Then came Jeremy #KeepingITSimple and after 7 mins, YES, I said it, 7 mins... my network started doing what it is supposed to do... "WORK!!!". Thank you, Jeremy!!!

A+++++ all I wanted to do was create a vlan that was apart of the guest wifi for LAN connected devices like my work laptops to be separate from my private networks ... I run UNIFI network with many switches and wifi AP`s all unifi and this was the simplest and best video out their !!! thank you so much ...
Now I just want to learn how to create vlans that can share the network as I have run out of IP addys due to home automation security ETC ETC
Awesome quick and easy Video :)

I've just been having dramas setting up a pfSense SG1100 to a Ubi Toughswitch (now called Edgeswitch) with 3 UAP-AC-LRs... There are 2 Lan VLAN interfaces and 3 WAN VLAN interfaces. Everything works fine except 1 of the LAN VLAN interfaces isn't parsing DHCP requested on wifi, but it is all fine when connected on Ethernet. I will be taking another look at the issue in a few days when I'm back at the clients place.

helpful video - I started using unify switches as we inherited a bunch of them through an acquisition of another company. Really unify, I'm not certain this is not wrong... design.
It works with 2-3 vlans, but becomes unmanageable slow and complex when dealing with 10 or more vlans and varying network layouts. There are way more simpler approches.

This video explains a lot. After learning Cisco now I see why I’m confused. Do you have another video that shows the VLAN setup needed between an EdgeRouter and the UniFi switch to make it all work? The ER is handling the DHCP addresses, so do you match the settings on the UniFi switch with the ER and create a trunk port between them?

Honestly I have a whole suite of Ubiquiti Edge Networking Equipment as well AP WiFi in my apartment I bought over Christmas for revamping my entire network to bring it up to the modern era from using my 1991 Apple Air Router for my network. Great video however I am just getting hung up on a Wireless Access Point. Did everything you said: set up wireless network for vlan 30 then wireless network profile and applied it all to the router, switch and port for wap. Worked for a few minutes (and horribly slow connection speed at that) and then lost heartbeat and then connection with wap. Finally switched to an unconfigured port and everything worked. Is there something with wireless in Unifi that I'm missing? First Ubiquiti anything for me and I just got my CCNA, I think I have wrapped my head around the differences but......maybe not. Any sit specific for setting up WAP's? Thanks for your time.Much appreciated!!!

Great insider when it comes to setting Unifi VLANs up, but I have one question: Since my Dream Router is inside my office and I have an office network (with VLAN assigned) in place, can I map specific ports of the router to go through the office VLAN or does the switch do all the work when it comes to VLAN assignment?
P.S. I haven't bought any UniFi switch just yet.

Something I'm confused about having done Cisco switches with the whole "switchport access vlan 10" thing - am I not specifying that that port should be tagged with vlan 10? So when a datagram arrives at that port on a Cisco switch, that datagram is tagged with vlan 10? Or does that tagging only take place when the datagram is passing over a trunk as in a router-on-a-stick scenario or between switches? The reason I ask is because, like you mention in your video, Unifi auto-generates switchport profiles for configured networks and these auto-generate profiles are untagged. If I choose one of those auto-generated profiles, will my Unifi traffic still be tagged appropriately when traversing a trunk? Does untagged just mean "access port"?

When configuring the port and selecting the profile under Switch Port Profile. The option that says "All", Would that be technically a trunk ?? Or do you have to create the profile with both vlans in it ( or however many you have ) ?

Good video. I want to setup some vlans myself. I have a sticky wicket though. I’m using a Cisco SV260W router that I’m running a Web server with a static address of 192.168.123.104. Hi,
How Unifi handles switch interconnections (trunks in cisco's world) ? Is it automatic ? Admit I have 100 VLANs, and 3 Unifi Switch, can I enable a native 200 VLAN to a port and it will automagically propagate all uplinks so the VLAN will be available though all switches ? Thank you for sharing your experience

Hi Jeremy, thanks for the video! You're adding great content to YT. I would like you to add a Video on How to do Firewall/Routing Configuration, especially with VLANs. Because Ubiquiti does it also different in this case. I'm thinking about VLAN isolation.
I'm also trying to find a way to do some QoS on VPN-Connections and Voice since I'm pinned down at my HomeOffice with 16 MBit/s Up and 2.4 MBit/s down here in poor non-fibre Germany.

I am using a non Ubiquiti router. I created the Vlans only in the Controller to match the Vlans on the router. On the USW-Pro-48 SFP1 port I left "All" to all the Vlans. Do I need to create a profile with the Vlans then assign to SFP1? What about the rj45 ports, I want to assign to just 1 Vlan? Do I create a profile with just 1 Vlan? Thanking you in advance.

Just got a UDM pro for the house and im sad to learn I cant do OSPF, as I like advertising my networks northbound to have more control via ACL's on my LAN switch (C3650x). So now that I cant do that I was going nuts trying to figure out how to create a trunk and let the UDM Pro do all the work (plan B I guess..) Ugh.. Still wish I could do it my way but plan B will open up more features witht he controller. Just hate that I cant lock my cameras down by IP with an ACL from leaving the SVI.. maybe theres a way to do it in Unifi..? Guess I'll keep on searching.. Thanks for this tho!! Wish I could just webex with someone for a few min to go over my design instead of trying to piece this together with google..

Your videos are always very helpful and thorough. I have a question that you may be able to help me with. We have 49 UAP's that we need to split up into two groups because of performance issues. Here's my question . . . I am moving 30 of the AP's over to a new UCK Gen2+ and I am wondering how to incorporate the VLAN only option, since that is what I've been told would be the best way to approach this. I have moved four over for testing purposes and they are working great, but I haven't established the VLAN only setting on the new UCK. Is that something I need to do, and if so, can you give me direction on how to approach it? Thanks

I was setting up a Unifi firewall and switches for the first time, the whole time thinking, "Wait, Unifi has these ports setup by default so that they're basically all trunk ports." The further into I got the more I realized they were using different terms for standard stuff, but getting familiar with that takes some work.

Jeremy, great explanation. What if you need to create a WAN based profile which include two VLAN's? For instance, I have an internet connection which provides internet and IPTV over the same WAN port. The internet connection is provided by untagged VLAN 6, and IPTV over VLAN 3. It seems you cannot create a port profile to include the WAN network.
