I feel like this guy is a well guarded secret when I look at the numbers. But straight up i have met two random people from across the country who invoked this channel when referencing some good readings. I guess those who need this will find it.
Love the dark, brooding feeling at the start of your video. It would be cool for you to experiment with different lightning and filters in your future videos.
I came here to check the newest comments, in hopes that the del Toro movie would cause people to discover your channel. You deserve more recognition on youtube!
Clifford describes it accurately, so if it sounds remotely interesting to you, definitely pick it up. The payoff at the end is worth the price of admission.
Thanks for the review. I appreciate its extemporaneous (other than obvious commonsense UA-cam editing) process. Have you done anything on Proust? I'd like to get your take on Proust and a host of other works.
You tarot deck is impressive, mine is nowhere near that! This somehow sounds EXACTLY like something that might become a favorite of mine, I put it immediately on my wishlist! That's the reason why I'm here, for recommendations like this. You can't get them anywhere other than here, so thanks again for that. (Also, sorry for the lack of commenting lately, I've been adjusting to Uni, but I am for sure back on track now :D!)
I just finished reading the book last night and had to see someone else's opinion. I noticed that thos review came out before the movie by Guillermo del Toro which is also good.
I know you get a lot of book suggestions, but here's one more: MY FACE FOR THE WORLD TO SEE by Alfred Hayes. You've reviewed SEVERAL books that I've read on your channel, so I feel like this book might be something you'd enjoy. It's another NYRB book too. They have a lot of great stuff. Keep up the great work! Also, is your film adaptation of Story of the Eye still a thing?
Really liked this review, thanks for your recommendation! On an entirely different note, Better Than Food t-shirts would be great if/when you have the means. Just a thought.
can anyone explain to me how Stanton was able to light the tiny bulb of the chemist scale? I read it a few times but still can not make anything of it. I mean the pen and the cat and the fleas? how does it work? and how did he know that he will find a cat there? thank you.
I think Stan counted on getting lucky because the odds of a flea getting onto the device was pretty good once he brought the cat (which he observed was flea ridden), into the room. It was a calculated risk that paid off. ~ Marilyn
@@MarilynFromTarotClarity In Gresham's Houdini bio, he explains how using a hollow pencil with fleas he could let loose that would tip the scale and the cat being the perfect vehicle to take to the evidence away. He remember the rush of excitment Stan feels, when he sees Ezra's pet cat, saying to himself, "it's in the bag!"
After the horrific incident of having a straight man cut my hair (see Peterson review) I vowed 'Never Again'. The rest is just luck in recovering from that trauma. Many thanks for watching
I haven't read the book or seen the '47(?) film so I'm assuming it's explained the same as in Guillermo del Toro remake, but the routine of 'making' a geek, abbreviated version, getting someone (particularly someone who's already vulnerable, and possibly already hooked on booze) incrementally and unawares, addicted to opiates and manipulating them 'just this one time', or because 'its time *you* put something back in the pot' to do the chicken bit, knowing full well (as does your prospective Geek) that the Cold Turkey/DT's~alcoholic 'horrors' is 'in the post' if they don't... Well, notwithstanding that women can be as kinky as men, women are queueing to get into porn, and every city and medium to large town in the world has women who have, in a sense, trapped _themselves_ into selling their bodies; but still and all, I don't think it's too big a leap to imagine that many prostitutes or the 'stars' of some of the sicker kinds of pornography - animal 'shows' for example - haven't been tricked into it by this _exact_ means, cf. the Rotherham 'Grooming Gangs', or some variant, eg, the classic 'job as a model’/’hotel receptionist' in the West' ruse... It would *literally* make you depressed when you think on the things that people do to people.
I've published a novel on amazon called "The Palestinian Centipede" about a war, the Lebanese civil war, with insect characters, and I want it reviewed by you, Better Than Food. How do I sent it to you?
Review starts at 2:56
Why doesn't this man have more of a following? He's like an infinite fountain of culture with good taste haha.

Really? Shucks amigo...Made my day. Thanks for sharing. I'd like to be not so well guarded so I can continue - tell your friends ;)

One of the most unforgettable endings to a novel I've ever read.
Clifford describes it accurately, so if it sounds remotely interesting to you, definitely pick it up. The payoff at the end is worth the price of admission.
As T. S. Eliot would say, you have 'a wicked pack of cards.'
P.S.
Have you ever thought about reviewing his 'The Waste Land'?
Nice review. Cool that you mentioned Ligotti.

Gonna need a Freaks/Carnival of Souls double feature after reading this one
Film is on UA-cam.

Cliff, whenever there is a film adaptation of something you have reviewed I always return to your review. What were your thoughts on del Torro's work?
Good job at 8:00, how you superimposed (is that the word?) the text.
now THAT is how you introduce a book for a review.

Aaaaaand ordered. Fancied something different to read and this sounds right up my alley (pun intended).
IMA read it next week (Faulkner kick on, currently). Ever read A Confederacy of Dunces, John Kennedy O'Toole? Youd adore it.
Really liked this review, thanks for your recommendation!

Just saw the original in order to prepare for Padre Del Toro's remake. Now because of Mr Sargent I'll have to read the book. Cheers, compa.
It’s not a remake, it’s a new adaptation from the novel.
His ex wife ended up marrying C.S. Lewis.
There’s something cosmically horrifyingly funny about that fact.
This sounds very interesting.
If you haven’t seen the 1934 film with Tyrone Power, yet, it’s free on here. I actually came here from there!
Actually the film came out in 1947 but it's free on UA-cam
@@Margie75 You’re right-Thanks for catching that!
Movie coming soon.

Please do another Q&A and thanks I am a big fan
Damn, the hair is looking good. Can you do a tutorial? Lol Great review as always btw.
After the horrific incident of having a straight man cut my hair (see Peterson review) I vowed 'Never Again'. The rest is just luck in recovering from that trauma.
Many thanks for watching

That gothic thing at the very start...
Just watch the film ua-cam.com/video/4zW1uWX5ShE/v-deo.html
