Wolf's Rain holds a special place in my heart because of what it meant to me personally. My Dad was (and still is) a huge anime fan and I wanted to find my own for the first time that he hadn't already watched. Wolf's Rain was the first anime I remember sitting through as a kid as something I discovered on my own. This song always brings me back to being a kid.
I love how Cheza isn't overly sexualized in this anime like how they always do. That's why I love older anime. This was one of the first ones I ever started watching and it's stuck with me all throughout the years.. The anime is so simple yet so ethereal.. And Cheza's pure & delicate nature is so adorable.
My friend asks me why I don't watch new anime. If Wolf's Rain was released in 2020 Cheza would've likely been a D-Cup Loli , 4/5 wolves in the cast would've been female that lose their clothes when they transform. We would've had an unnecessary beach episode. That's why I like staying in the past, and I'm happy I got enough old anime like Texhnolyze and Haibane Renmei to go around, before the "yo sex sells" wave hit most of the anime. You just don't find that many animes anymore that stick to the story and its realism.
@@akai2345 You are so right it’s painful lol. Wolfs Rain was my first anime back in 2012 and at the time at least you had Angel Beats out that touched on deeper topics and was a little dark. But today you’d be hard pressed finding anything with the depth of something like Monster or Technolyze or Trigun. It’s depressing looking at seasonal anime today and seeing at least three harem or isekai anime with like four sisters or six monster girls while each character has zero personality except for how unremarkable they are as a main character or how sexy they are as a fan service character.
This one hits me . In puertorico they called my family “los lobos” (Spanish for the wolves) .. I’m 25 years old had an uncle who I looked up to as a father figure who passed away from street violence.. I don’t think you guys understand how huge the lump in my throat feels whenever I hear this .... “great wolf rest”
I'm sorry for your loss. I lost a couple people in my family but what really hits me is how me and my senior class lost a classmate almost 2 years ago i think we graduated in 2020.
Fellow Puerto Rican here. Your family has a badass name. On my dads side he has Greek family members with the name Drakoulis. Translated means Drake like a dragon. OwO
Would sing this to my handsome Shiba Inu, Meeko, all the time. Lost him after nearly 14 years old on January 5th, 2022. I miss him every day with every fiber of my entire being. I love you, Meeko. My heart sings for you. Great wolf, rest your soul. We will meet again when Paradise opens.
This song makes me long for my past life, it was full of fighting, but I felt at peace by my soulmates side, and she would sing in Gaelic to help me sleep without night terrors.
Thanks for posting this!! Anyone else this song is a bit hypocritical of Cheza? Like she says she will protect the wolves, but she can't even defend herself. *save for the times she healed them.
sorry to necro this comment, but doesn't she kind of make sure they are all re-incarnated in the paradise (tainted new world); so in a way she does protect them (at least their souls). I feel like the flower maiden and wolves are kind of symbiotic to each others survival/end goal and they can't complete their objective without the other. the wolves defend her physically, but she shepherds their souls across space and time making sure they are re-incarnated.
How do we now its gaelic? Was it confirmed somewhere? In google translator i can't select gaelic. Only scottish gaelic, and if i type in the lyrics, nothing shows up
@@BlackCroLong Maybe the spelling is not right? I heard lot of Yoko Kanno's songs have gibberish in them, so it would not surprise me if that was the case with this one.
From my research its a combo of french and another language not sure which language. Yoko Kanno made up her own and uses it often. Might want to research that more but, that’s what I got when I looked this song up and about Yoko Kanno
It's funny that every time I hear this song. I feel sadness, fear and happiness at the same time. I just get goose bumps here. Maybe I'm secretly a wolf😆
I sing this to my baby siblings and it puts them to sleep....its beautiful bc they always ask me to sing this lullaby when they sleep..(Btw I'm 19 and my parents died in a terrible car accident so I watch over them)
Kawaii Snooks Raising kids to have good taste in anime. You're doing gods work. Lol in all seriousness, you must be very mature to take care of kids at your age. Yoko kanno is a great help with that
Its a beautiful song. I listen to it and it brings me back to this show and calms me. Your siblings have great taste in music :) That's really awesome that you can sing this and that you are taking care of them. That is amazing. I wish you and your family the best of luck :)
I has a dog that looks a lot like a wolf (but well, he is not)and he has an extremely chaotic energy... Last time he has something like crisis due to all of this energy (he was running and playing around without a rest). Surely i can help him avoid every single crisis cuz he has a lots, but whenever i can i'm singing him this song and lots of times it relaxes him
Dude, I wanted to ask someone for so long! I only speak english so it's difficult for me to tell, but I remember finding a translation online Years ago that I can't find anymore, and it looked eastern block. It stood out to me because the spelling was so different than the main translations that showed up. It went something like: Shiro wajnie unforti nie Shiro Shiro Jatvit ka Shiro snk Otvit ka (Humming) Shiro wajnie unforti nie Shiro shiro otvit ka (Sorry if this is bad, it's Yoko Kanno and she makes stuff up and I only speak one language) The english translation I remember reading was (supposedly): Great wolf Great wolf Rest your head Great wolf I will watch over you Give in to sleep. Great wolf I will watch over you Great wolf, Great wolf Give in to sleep
@@emilyp8928 I listened again this sentence 2:13 (in your transcription it was "shiro wainie unforti nie") and i can hear some more slavic words. There's a definite Russian "vo sne" meaning "in a dream". "Shiro" can be mispronounced "slovno", because in Russian there's an idioma "slovno vo sne" meaning "as if in a dream". The problem is in Japanese pronunciation where they pronounce sh instead of s. So in this song it's "shne" instead of "sne", "shlovno" instead of "slovno", and "shneg" instead of "sneg"(eng: snow) Also there's word "yadridka" at 1:51. It can be mispronounced "yagodka" (means "berry") or "yadritsa" (means "kernel"). Both can be used in lullabies as a gentle refer to a loved one. Or it can be any other language and I'm just hearing things 😆 Unfortunately i can't define any other words in this humming. Maybe if someone tagged me in a few more years i will find something new? 😂
Considering this is Gaelic, I doubt most younger Irish generations will understand it. Sadly, Gaelic itself is considered an almost completely dead language because most of the generations who still speak it are dying and it hasn't been passed down by the older generations.
XShadoumonsutaX I thought there were some places wherr they speak Gaelic as a first language? I might be confusing it with Welsh. But I do know that Ireland and Scotland have programs to teach people the language. Look it up on UA-cam, there are some things up in Irish & Scottish Gaelic.
There might be, but the language itself is considered a dying language because there are such low numbers that still speak it. It's really sad too, because the language itself is beautiful.
A lot of Irish people can speak Irish including myself, but the modern Irish speaker couldn't understand this as most of the words are different now. My grandmother could maybe understand this as she does not understand the Irish I can read but maybe she can't. I didn't even think this was Irish tbh
Also the scene in which the song is played makes it all the more poetic, one of my favourite anime scenes, while the wolves sleep, Cheza sings to them, all of them dream about the things they desire, but Kiba dreams with her, which for me means that his dream was already a reality and the paradasie wasn't for him a place, but being with the person you love
