A simple fix is to put velcro on the base plate around the centre hole so that the central teflon washer rests on the velcro and not the formica. I used the bristle side rather than the furry side of the velcro. Brilliant result! BTW . . I think It works by relieving some of the pressure from the outer teflon pads on the base . . so less friction. I've used the Velcro 20mm pads on the bottom of kitchen chairs to stop the scraping noise on tiles . Lasted for years and years
Honestly, I was amazed ! My Skywatcher 200 was REALLY frustrating, particularly on high mag. on Jupiter or Moon when inch-ing it along is required. I used 4 sticky velcro pads and it's like a different scope. Let me know if you need further instructions. Cheers
If you could make a video about it and upload it in UA-cam that will be great. You don't need to show yourself if you don't wish to, just seeing the telescope will be great to teach and share your findings to others.
I just tried this on my 12" Zhumell which was starting to stick. Worked great! Not sure how long the teflon furniture sliders will hold up, but for $10, I can afford to redo it every now and then. Thanks for the informative video!

I may try that!

I'd like to but I'm a bit concerned that if I meddle with it I'll never get it back to how it is now . .which is actually perfect!
I have the 10" SkyWatcher - will try this myself. Thanks for sharing this! It's exactly what I have been looking for 🙂
Both are good telescopes and easy to use.🌹🔭🌛🌌😇

Mine was out for the last year and it is yet smooth. I may do this for the Alt axis too as it is jerky.
Can you put a link to the pads in the description please. Was the base not already weatherproof?
They are sold in ebay and amazon as teflon furniture pads. They completely solved the sticky Dobsonian problem for my 12 inch scope.
