Birdsmouths at the wallplate would be a start, with plenty of cross anchored screws. 35 years of construction tells me to take the lot down and start again. If that's the state of the roof, there will be lots of other issues throughout. They are the jobs you get involved in to help mates out. Otherwise, you'd walk away and say good luck to the customer!
I don’t know what you finally decided, but it seems to me that your coach bolt solution might put too much tension on the bottom horizontal member of the truss. It needs a birds mouth to transfer more of the roof load downward into the wall. Without this, the horizontal load will possibly create too much stress on the bottom timber. Needs a structural analysis really.
The full building wants taken down and started again it takes twice as long fucking about than just starting a fresh. Good luck with this one yous need it lol. Cheers for the longer video
