Having a lot of trouble with mine. Probably going to have to return it. The fat tire spacer kit is difficult if not impossible for me to install and I have a fat tire bike so that is that.
Hello from Ouray, CO. My wife and I just purchased E-Lux Tahoe GTs. We almost exclusively ride off pavement on National Forest and Bureau of Land Management dirt roads and such. Plus, with some physical ailments, we preferred the "cruiser" geometry. And, of course, being out in the backcountry with hills, mesas, etc, the bigger battery capacity and wheel motor is great. Yes sir...this is a very helpful video! Thank you for sharing it with us! These 1Ups look like awesome racks! We also exclusively boondock in our solar equipped travel trailer. So, we need a rack that is "travel trailer approved"; which the 1UP is! We also have fat tires and a rear fender that comes down most of the rear wheel. So, I'm glad to see a fat tire and fender protection option (with the bumper pad). With this rack, I think I will also ratchet strap the wheels to the ramps for the added security; but also to also prevent that rear wheel rising and causing additional force onto the fender and the bumper pad. Thank you again!! Awesome video!
Another tip for fendered fat bikes is to remove some air from your fat tires, set the wheel bars then add some air back to the tires. 10psi should be more than enough. Allowing the tires to sort of mold around the bar.
Thanks for posting this video. I have the HD 1UP rack and the Letric 3.0. My fix to the rear fender was to trim off 4-5" of material & move the fender bracket to sit a bit higher so the bent arm can securely stabilize the rear tire.
I am in the same boat as you. Xp3 and portola. Could you please show an image of the cut fender and the bent support brace? How did you drill new holes for the fender brace?
on my other xp 3.0 , I trimmed 2” of the fender using a dremmel tool. It worked out better and I didn’t have to modify the bracket securing the fender.
My specialized como ebike is a step through with a rear fender much lower than what was shown. Everything else about this bike rack would work well for my strength Aluminum, preassembled, ramp, ect. Excellent clear information . Any chance you could show a Specialized como step through with rear long fender to load and secure?
You should load you heaviest bike 1st, closest to the hitch! I Have owned a 1up for about 5 years and love it. So easy to put your bike on and handles the weight. All of my bikes a step thru and do not have a crossbar. Plus with several e-bikes I needed to handle the weight. I put painters tape on it so I know how far to insert the bar into the hitch. As I recall it should be inserted about 3 or 4 inches read the directions.
Good call Jim - I need to get the fat tire adapters on the inside tray. Glad you still like the 1UP rack after so many years. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@EbikeEscape 1 UP USA SAID YOUR EXISTING RACK SHOULD SUPPORT A FAT TIRE NO MORE THAN 4.5 TIRE LENGTH . I WAS GOING TO GET A FAT TIRE ADAPTERS BUT THEY ASK ME DOES THE FAT FIT AND IF SO YOU DONT NEED THE ADAPTER THING WHOPPY I SAVE SOME DOUGH.
I think a better solution is to just get a rear rack and remove the rear fender. Most of the time you don't need a rear fender if you have a solid rear rack, or a bag on one that is not solid.
Great video. It led me to buying the 1UP rack. One suggestion: instead of using tie downs, you can secure the rack arms by running a line of parachute cord with small hooks on either end into the holes in the rack arms. Pair the cord with a ratchet style tightening system as you will want the cord extremely taunt. Cheers.
What a great review. Really liked the way you demonstrated the flexibility of the rack to accommodate different brands of bikes, and the practical suggestions you gave for obtaining additional security, like through the use of an additional strap and the foam pads. This rack is definitely a contender. Our application would be a RadCity 5+ Step-Thru and a RadCity 5+ High-Step. Both have fenders, and the rear fenders extend down really far as you would expect for a commuter application - and the fenders are not easily removable. Any suggestions for a cover for the bikes that would keep them clean during transit? Another thing we're looking for is some sort of cover or plug for the battery well. There are electrical contacts at the lower end of the well that probably should be protected somehow. Any ideas for this too?
I only have experience with the Pro Bike Tool cover though to be honest I usually go without. I like that it's from Wisconsin! There was no mention of locking features, on either the hitch or the bike mounts. The problems it has with bikes with fenders or racks/accessories is something the company needs to address - I don't want to be messing around with aftermarket straps that may or may not work. Also, before calling it one of the best racks available I would like to hear that you'd used it regularly for at least a few weeks prior to the review. It does look high quality and heavy duty, but there are many other proven racks out there for the price they are asking. I subscribed and liked....
I use this rack all the time and love it. You could use a chain lock to protect them - most of the integrated locks with racks are cable locks which aren't very secure.
This is by far the best review I've seen for this bike rack. You brought up a many good points like the one for fenders and great solutions for all kinds of bikes. Thanks a lot !
how do you think the 1up would do with a full suspension ebike like an ecells 5star? i don't think the fork pistons would be an issue , but what about the rear suspension?
For bikes with fenders just cut a pool knoodle of your favorite color to the size of the wheel holder and wrap a piece of velco strap around it to hold it in place it will keep your fenders from being scratched. Ypu forgot to demomstrate the tilt feature to access the back of your vehicle.
I recently bought the 1up Super Duty Double and two fat tire kits and they arrived a few days ago. They didn't offer to install the fat tire kits at the factory for me. I had to print out the instructions on their website. No big deal but things aren't quite the same as what you guys experienced.

As nice as that rack is I think Motow might solve more problems with transportation of these heavy bikes. Consider looking into them. Once again great information!!
Thanks for checking out the video. I have not tried this rack with the Aventure. My guess is that you could either tuck it under the fender or maybe even on top of the fender (the Aventure fenders seem like they would be sturdy enough). The Quickr rack looks like a great option as well. Sadly they are 3-6 months out and do cost more.
The Quickr rack is more refined than the 1UP. It's basically the updated version because it's this same person designing it and fixed the 1UP short falls. I also didn't like how this rack rattled at 9:57 in the video. That would drive me crazy on the road.
For fender bikes, how about a strap (velcro?) around the rack tray and bike wheel rim to prevent the upward movement? Trying to find a solution that doesn't involve ratchet straps, which can be a pain to work with.
Yep that's the best solution though I'd go with ski straps (rubber) or something similar. Quikr sells them so just buy something similar but make sure they're long enough!
We have a 1 UP for 2 bikes. Absolutely love the rack and also bought the license plate/brake light add-on for when we travel with bike covers on. We really have learned a lot from your videos. Have you done a review on a swing away arm attached to rack to allow one to get access to back of vehicle? Looking for one to add on for our heavy weight ebikes. TIA!
Would 2 Lectric xp 2.0 bikes with rear baskets fit this carrier? I'm guessing they might, facing different ways , but not sure about bike to bike contact.

Very nice review! I didn't see this one before I ordered the QuikR bike rack, which I understand is designed by the same man who designed this 1UP. I wonder how much better the QuikR is than this one? I have to wait 6 months for the QuikR, because of supply problems getting aluminum. I guess I better start my research! Thanks Ebike Escape!!
The Quikr has some slight differences. I'd love to test one myself but I think for most people this rack is sufficient (and cheaper). I'd love to hear how you like the Quikr.
The QuikR has up to 120lb capacity per tray, unlike the 1Up super duty which is 75lb. You can also get a QuikR with the same capacity in a 1 1/4" mount, where the 1UP 1.25 is max of 50lb. the QuikR is already setup for fat tire bikes where the 1Up needs an expansion kit. That said, I have a 1Up for a few years and it is excellent for my purposes. I _am_ about to get a 77lb fat tire bike (in addition to two lighter ebikes) and while I will exceed the max capacity by a couple of pounds, I don't think I need to worry when my 240lb self can easily stand and bounce on the 1Up with no problem.
It really is a versatile rack. We love it! And yes it is. Here is the excerpt from 1Up's website about it: "Rated for RV and travel trailer use, 2 spots maximum"
I have the SuperDuty and was wondering if the Radwagon would fit? Thinking of getting a Radwagon. I’d remove the battery and accessories to make the 75lb weight limit.
Please do a review of the Quickrack Mach 2. It improves on the 1up racks with a tool less design. Plus, the original engineer of the quick rack designed that. A lot of bad blood between the founder/engineer who was kicked out and the current 1up owner.
According to the 1UP website: Heavy Duty and Super Duty Racks are rated for RV and travel-trailer usage. Two bike maximum with only the 2-in. hitch-bar models. (www.1up-usa.com/faq/) Their support is very helpful if you have other questions related to use with a RV. I am not an expert in RVs.
Hi Julie, according to the 1UP website: Heavy Duty and Super Duty Racks are rated for RV and travel-trailer usage. Two bike maximum with only the 2-in. hitch-bar models. Source: www.1up-usa.com/faq/
I’m glad this was in the email today. I’m in the market for one and am in Wisconsin too. Anyone make a trailer? I have both a XP trike and XP3.0. Can’t get both in my car. Also concerned about the leverage on the hitch.
Unfortunately the 1up Super Duty Single (www.1up-usa.com/product/2in-super-duty-single-bike-rack/) has a total weight capacity of 225lbs, but 75lbs per spot. Might be worth shooting them a email, or even giving them a call. See what they think about if you are only transporting a single bike. Be sure to let them know we sent you.
I got one delivered a couple of weeks ago. The rack is not cold-weather friendly. No way I could move the blue levers without loosening then first. I assume because it was cold outside. The loading ramp wouldn't fit on the mounting bolts until I reamed the holes with a Dremel. I added their extender handle at extra $$$. I don't know why it has keyhole holes except to give you an option to assemble it the wrong way. I can barely tuck a 1Up bracket under the rear fender of an Aventon Aventure. Also, I hate having SAE hardware on a rack made for bikes that all use metric wrenches.
I found that the blue levers were pretty snug for unfolding the rack but haven't needed to use them since. Good to know it works with the Aventon Aventure even if it is tricky to get set up for the first time. I'm not familiar with the extender handle you are talking about - do you have a link? Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I was going to ask the same. I have a rad wagon as well, With a caboose and a rad runner +. Great videos thanks for the help in deciding what bike rack to get!!!
I ended up purchasing the rack to use with my Radwagon 4 and it works great! Since the radwagon is so large I do use a ratchet strap to hold the center of the frame down to the base as well. I really don’t think I need to do that but I typically drive on highways for almost 2hrs each way so adding a strap takes minimal time for extra piece of mind. I did not get the ramp and it’s definitely tricky getting the bike on alone. I lift the front wheel then the back wheel then slide the bike one bike tray at a time closer to the car. I am hoping to purchase the ramp hardware from 1up so I can get the bike on more easily without actually needing the entire ramp.
The Hollywood Rack? It's still a great option and I have used it a lot before I received this new rack. I find the 1UP USA rack faster to load up different bikes but I'm unique in that I'm always hauling different ebikes. I like that the 1UP rack is all aluminum and seems of better build quality but it also costs more. There are definitely tradeoffs either way.
I have one of these. I notice the capacity is 225lbs but each spot is 75lbs each which totals to 150lbs. I can’t seem to find anywhere confirming either or. I have an upgraded Super73 that weighs o more than 200lbs but I feel like the rack where the bike sits could bent given the racks bolt from the center
@@EbikeEscape Thanks so much for the reply! I was thinking Ariel Grizzly, Juiced Hyper series, super 73, etc. If I buy one of the above, I would need a decent carrier that's nice and sturdy.
Here is a quote from there website: “Heavy Duty and Super Duty Racks are rated for RV and Travel-Trailer usage. Two bike maximum with only the 2-in. hitch-bar models”
My Superduty Single just arrived, and the knob for the rack adjustment is screwed down so tight that I can’t unscrew it to pull up the adjuster bar. Tried WD40 and a wrench. This ever happen to you?? Super frustrating
@@EbikeEscape Thanks, I figured it out - kind of. It was 50% user error 50% on them, they’re sending me a replacement bar and knob that I can swap in but I was able to get the rack to engage and change positions. However the black knob is still stuck in the "unlocked" position on the gold bar and won't screw down, so they're sending me a new gold bar and black knob that I can swap in, they said it was likely a problem with the threading.
As long as you stay below the capacity of 225lbs (combined) you could. The lectric bikes fit a lot nicer on this rack when they do not have fenders or racks. -JT
From my understanding the total weight capacity for bikes on the Super Duty rack is 225lbs. The XP 2.0 weighs in at 64lbs. So 4 XP 2.0s would come in at about 30lbs over the total weight rating of the 1up Super Duty. The XP lite only weighs 46 lbs. So you could maybe mount a mix of 2.0s and Lites. Or you could also fold one or two of the bikes up and stash them on the f150. Good Luck. Email us over a picture if you ever get that beast of a setup going.
Yes, I have - it looks like great quality as well and there are some features that fit my use case (hauling lots of different ebikes). Unfortunately, they are 3-6 months out.
@@EbikeEscape That is true, but that’s true for a lot of racks, especially a few months ago, bikes too. If you’re going to spend that kind of money on a rack, you’re willing to wait for delivery.
One thing I noticed with all the bike racks I've seen so far, they all block the vehicle tailights, I suspect the law is going to have a problem with that?
I can see how that could be confusing, but the capacity per their website is 225 lbs: - Increase bike capacity to 3 bikes (50 - 75 lbs) or 4 bikes (50 lbs or less) with additional Add-Ons (sold separately) - Total carrying capacity of up to 225 lbs (50-75 lbs per bike spot) due to added support bar under tray
I think this was a good review. However, I think you left out a VERY important point. The bike rack covers your license plate and tail lights. Both of these are serious safety hazards thar are illegal and can cause you to get pulled over and ticketed if the officer wants to give an easy ticket. This would've been a great opportunity to emphasize this and show the options for avoiding this safety hazard.
Hi Raymond - they do sell some accessories to address these issues. I might add my own DIY rear light but I am personally not worried about the license plate. Plenty of bike racks makes it hard to see the license plate. If I get pulled over perhaps I'll change my tune :) Great points though!
Every review can’t be the best ever. What comparisons have you done, especially of the lectric bike? It doesn’t appear to be any better than a Hollywood and doesn’t really fit well on tires. P.s. I would cut the bars to get then under the racks. Plus it’s $200 more….
Hi John, I have extensive experience with the Hollywood Rack. It is also a good rack and I'd still recommend it but for my use the 1UP USA bike rack is superior. The 1UP rack also is built better and won't rust (important for me since I live in Wisconsin). It takes me way less time to throw on two ebikes on the 1UP Rack due to not having to adjust for different wheelbases. While I am aware of the benefits of a more click-baity title such as this I don't say 'best' lightly. In my opinion, this is the best rack for me that is available. Hope that helps and thanks for checking the video out!
I just used my new super duty 2" hitch rack. IT REALLY NEEDS A BETTER WAY TO UNLOCK AND SWIVEL. 1up wants you to spend $90 more, on top of the $665-$715, for their extremely poor implementation of swinging rack up and down!
So...to get this straight. I spend $700 on a rack, an additional $80 for two fat tire spacers kits, and i still have to use a $10 ratchet strap to hold the bikes on securely???? Lol...ok
Your review is lacking alot. I have a 1UP rack and the way you put your Lectric bike on the rack will tear up the fenders. This rack will not hold an e-bike securely and there is a lot of movement of the bike going down the road (again, speaking to e-Bikes with fenders). If you mount a second bike, or even a third, the rails for the tires are too close together which will rub your pedals against the frames of the bikes as you go down the road. I suggest you mount your bikes on the racks as you did here, and go for a 30-40 mile drive and see how much damage you have to the frame and record how much the bikes move. All that said, this rack is likely perfect for standard road bikes and it is a VERY sturdy rack. If you have an e-Bike with no fenders, very likely that this rack will work fine in transporting your bike, however, pay close attention to the pedals for all bikes as they will rub frames which is frustrating to say the least.
Wait, what? 47 pounds? I have had some serious cargo racks in the past yet they weighed only a few pounds. Oh my goodness. This must be a joke of some sort.
Do you think the 1UP USA Super Duty is the best ebike rack?
Yes, we love ours. Bought the heavy duty for our 2 Rad ebikes. Love the stability with bikes on rack.
Maybe not since I saw the reviews on the Quikr rack.
Having a lot of trouble with mine. Probably going to have to return it. The fat tire spacer kit is difficult if not impossible for me to install and I have a fat tire bike so that is that.
One of the BETTER reviews as you show how to mount with bikes with fenders.
Thanks David!

The Lectric bikes brand has 20" tires so this shows the adaptability of this rack to smaller tires. Question: is this rated for use on an RV?
It really is a versatile rack. We love it! And yes it is. Here is the excerpt from 1Up's website about it: "Rated for RV and travel trailer use, 2 spots maximum"
Do you remove the battery on the lectric bike when you use the 1Up bike rack?
I have the SuperDuty and was wondering if the Radwagon would fit? Thinking of getting a Radwagon. I’d remove the battery and accessories to make the 75lb weight limit.
To be determined. Still on my list to test out.
Thank you greatly for this video. I will be ordering my 1Up rack. :)
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the review
Please do a review of the Quickrack Mach 2. It improves on the 1up racks with a tool less design. Plus, the original engineer of the quick rack designed that. A lot of bad blood between the founder/engineer who was kicked out and the current 1up owner.
Keep an eye out in the next couple of weeks 😉
will this rack hold up well on the back of a RV travel trailer?
According to the 1UP website: Heavy Duty and Super Duty Racks are rated for RV and travel-trailer usage. Two bike maximum with only the 2-in. hitch-bar models. (www.1up-usa.com/faq/) Their support is very helpful if you have other questions related to use with a RV. I am not an expert in RVs.
Is this rack rated for a hitch on a 5th Wheel?
Hi Julie, according to the 1UP website: Heavy Duty and Super Duty Racks are rated for RV and travel-trailer usage. Two bike maximum with only the 2-in. hitch-bar models. Source: www.1up-usa.com/faq/
@@EbikeEscape fantastic, thank you!
I’m glad this was in the email today. I’m in the market for one and am in Wisconsin too. Anyone make a trailer? I have both a XP trike and XP3.0. Can’t get both in my car. Also concerned about the leverage on the hitch.
We have a trike rack on the way and will do a video on it. Good to hear from a fellow Wisconsinite!
How do you lock your bikes on the actual rack itself? I'm deliberating between the hollywood rack destination E and this one, any recommendation?
I don't need to lock them often but you can buy the locks from 1UP or use a chain lock (which is what I would personally use).
Helpful and informative! 🤔 this rack secure an Ariel Rider “Grizzly”? 88lbs with both batteries removed.
What if the tires go flat, the locking arms would become loose and nothing holding the frame down. Otherwise I like the rack.
Great review! Thanks for doing it!
Thanks for watching and commenting Bob! I really wanted to share this one with my audience.
Superb review. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for commenting!
$800? It's more expensive than my electric bike.
Yes, not cheap but if you're using it often it's totally worth it. I love this thing.
When you have 2 on it then it's less than half the cost of your bikes.
Will 2 lectric 2.0 bikes both with front and rear baskets fit on the rack?
Hard to say, you might need to take one rack off. For instance, the front rack on one bike and the rear rack on the other.
I been trying to figure this dilemma out myself I have two Lectric’s with cargo packages
I am looking for a carrier for my 2 Lectric XP2.0 bikes. Would I be able to have the two on this rack?
Hi David, it should be fine. The biggest thing you need to work out is how you plan to secure the rear tire as I explain in this video.
@@EbikeEscape Thank you so much and enjoy your videos!
How’s a Super73 fit? The wheels are really wide and small diameter.
Shorter tires will work with the adjustments but some of the widths on the Super73s could be too large.
Have you tried a Rad Mini Step Thru on the 1UP rack? I would be transporting two of them.
Not yet! It should fit similar to the Lectric but maybe a bit easier with the more flexible plastic fenders.
Have you tried to fit the RadWagon on the rack? this seems like a great rack for all of our bikes if the radwagon will fit
Hi Lars, I have not yet but will definitely be trying it. The wheelbase says it will work but the challenge of course is going to be the rear wheel.
I am also interested if it works with the rad wagon. Can you please do an update for us. Thank you.
When will you be reviewing the QuikrStuff Mach 2 Bike Rack?
Unsure, they are sold out for months so they aren't exactly looking for more attention. However I really want to check one out.
What do you think of the rack sold by rad rover ?
Hi Shane, the folks from 1Up are super helpful. Just submit a support request.
What about for heavier fat tire bikes?
We have found bikes like to Rad Rover 6 and Aventure to fit on this rack nicely, with the batteries removed.
@@EbikeEscape Thanks so much for the reply! I was thinking Ariel Grizzly, Juiced Hyper series, super 73, etc. If I buy one of the above, I would need a decent carrier that's nice and sturdy.
Great review, is this bike rack RV certified?
Here is a quote from there website:
“Heavy Duty and Super Duty Racks are rated for RV and Travel-Trailer usage.
It has not - reach out to 1UP support as they should be able to help. Let me know how it goes!
I wondered for years what happened to Bob and Doug McKenzie
Is it bad I don't know these two?
Can you put 2 Lectric bikes on the 1 up?
As long as you stay below the capacity of 225lbs (combined) you could. The lectric bikes fit a lot nicer on this rack when they do not have fenders or racks. -JT
@@EbikeEscape Thanks
How do you think the super duty 1UP rack will deal with 4 Lectric XPs? I’m
Mounting it to the back of my F150. Thanks guys this was helpful.
Will a Lectric Xpremium fit on this rack?
Yes it will. You would need to remove both batteries and work around the fenders. -JT
@@EbikeEscape how about a ramp? Does it have a ramp? I am 64 and hubby 67?
What rack is that on the letrick 2.0
1UP USA Super Duty rack.
Great bike, great price
Have you checked out the QuikRStuff rack?
Yes, I have - it looks like great quality as well and there are some features that fit my use case (hauling lots of different ebikes). Unfortunately, they are 3-6 months out.
@@EbikeEscape That is true, but that’s true for a lot of racks, especially a few months ago, bikes too. If you’re going to spend that kind of money on a rack, you’re willing to wait for delivery.
@@robertdeschepper4346 I truly appreciate when someone lectures me on what I should be willing to do in purchasing decisions...
Can you put this on a RV??
According to their website: - Rated for RV and travel trailer use, 2 spots maximum
One thing I noticed with all the bike racks I've seen so far, they all block the vehicle tailights, I suspect the law is going to have a problem with that?
Technically yes, I haven't had an issue but I'm getting the license plate holder. JT has been pulled over and the police officer mentioned it.
So it can only hold 150lbs of bikes? Not the 225lbs in the thumbnail.
I can see how that could be confusing, but the capacity per their website is 225 lbs:
- Increase bike capacity to 3 bikes (50 - 75 lbs) or 4 bikes (50 lbs or less) with additional Add-Ons (sold separately)
- Total carrying capacity of up to 225 lbs (50-75 lbs per bike spot) due to added support bar under tray
I need 1 to ariel 52 105 pounds
no integrated locking system is a big fail
Some racks do come with integrated locks. The problem is I haven't seen one that comes with a high security lock. Let me know if you find one!
Lol...ok
U forgot to cover up that plate
Woops!
1up is a great rack but not so great for bikes with fenders. Workarounds are workarounds to a design problem.
Wait, what? 47 pounds? I have had some serious cargo racks in the past yet they weighed only a few pounds. Oh my goodness. This must be a joke of some sort.
If only it came with a swing out mechanism.
They sell that attachment separately if you are interested in having it swing out. -JT
@@EbikeEscape & theres another good idea for a vid lol thanx
These dudes gets paid to do the reviews and they hide all bad features and shortcomings of the product 😢😢😢😢
This is a fail for fendered bikes there are better ones
Each have their pros and cons - I'll take the 1UP or QuikrStuff over the other styles any day - even with having to make it work with fendered ebikes.
AWESOME, A $700 BIKE RACK THAT ISN'T COMPATIBLE WITH ANYTHING. REAL GENIUS ENGINEERING THERE.
Will it fit a Surly BFD?
It can fit wheelbases up to 54”.
