This was awesome. Im hoping to do quite a bit of hunting when I get out, and want to get started with buying points while still active. Maybe even get out on a cow tag or otc tag to learn what I can.
Thanks for all the good experience shared!

Excellent point about using the Draw Odds page and not just Filtering 2.0. Very helpful to know those point levels around your own.
For this year I am either going to go for Wyoming rifle pronghorn with 6 points or Colorado 2nd or 3rd rifle mule deer 🦌 with 5 points.

@ thank you 🙏 and I will. Hopefully 2025 is the year that I finally get to get out west for my first big game hunt.

For some reason I don’t have the table below draw odds that show how many tags were allocated like how you show on the video

That information depends on the state. What state are you looking at, and we could give you a better answer? For some states that have a random portion of the draw, we don't always know at what point level those random draw tags came from, and that is what makes it difficult to plot that information.

@ that’s fair I was looking at Arizona

@@bradmoss2911 Arizona is another very interesting state. So why currently we have the odds tables that way is that Arizona is somewhat complicated with the 1st and 2nd choices, and the various phases of the draw. We are looking at finding a way to solve for this when we are working with the state and hopefully we will be changing that area in Arizona draw odds in the future.

Is it worth it to apply for elk in Wyoming with 1 point hoping for a tag from the 25% allocated randomly, or look at other states with lottery draws or OTC opportunities while I save more points in WY? I worry about drawing more than one tag somehow and not being able to return for a refund in some states. Thanks for any help

I would look at Colorado or watch for turn back in Idaho. But it's ultimately your choice for risk.

Hi there, if you can afford to apply in Wyoming for the random chance to draw I think it's worth it. You are not ultimately out a lot of money if you apply, you just have to front the cost and let them sit on it until May and if you are unsuccessful you would be refunded the cost of the tag. For example, the general season odds for a nonresident in the two better regions is about 6-10% and should you draw the hunting is actually pretty good. You can always buy points in the summer there. I think it depends though on how many points you have in other states and what you have in mind. Good OTC tags are more rare now, really the only solid opportunity is Idaho and you have to plan well out in advance. Typically my year looks like this, I'll try to get an OTC tag in Idaho when they go on sale in Dec of the previous year, if that fails I consider what I have for points in Colorado, Arizona, Utah, and if I have a good option there for one of those I'd just plan on buying points for Wyoming and Montana (pref/bonus). If I don't, I might apply in Wyoming and hope. I'd also apply in New Mexico, Idaho (controlled) and the others and hope. If all of it fails, I'd be looking at turn back tag lists. Utah OTC general season spike/any bull might be on the list if all else fails. I don't worry too much about drawing too many tags, because the odds are that you won't unless you are just picking easier draws and in many cases those aren't the best hunts. If you did draw a few tags, you could explore turn back options but if there are not options there, you can always just go hunting!

Thank you for the info! I'm in the same boat, having 1 point in a few states and this helps a ton. @trailkreitzer9163

@@trailkreitzer9163 FYI Idaho is going to a draw system next year. 2025 is the last OTC for non-residents and the window to buy them has already passed.

Trail/GH, does Wyoming go through both your 1st and 2nd choice before moving on? If that makes sense, 😳
