Gerhard Fieseler, whose company built the Storch, was the highest scoring ace (19 confirmed ‘kills’) on the Eastern Front to survive WW1. He survived the re-match also and lived to the grand old age of 91.
At an airshow in 1938 Hanna Reitsch managed to HOVER a Storch in a mild breeze. In 1939 she flew one into the BerlinerSportsPlatz (Soccer Stadium& 1936 Olympic venue) and land it with a 10 metre rollout. Then she took off again and flew out. All within the Football pitch!
Unfortunately Tamiya have perpetuated the incorrect colours of Rommel's Storch "SF+RL". I saw a very good article c 2010 about this aircraft, where the Photos clearly show that SF+RL was painted in the Standard European colours of RLM 70 and 71 over Rlm 65. (That is to say Black Green 70 and Dark Green 71 over Blue Grey 65) Over that was a scribble pattern of EITHER RLM 02 (Grau-grun/Grey Green OR RLM 79 Sand Gelb or 79a Sandbraun. (The photos were monotone so all they really showed was the very dark tones UNDER the scribble, which was lighter than the undertone. Tamiya have you paint it in upper Sand with a XF22 (Fieldgrey?) scribble over it. XF22 is darker than sand, unless you add white and a touch of yellow to make RLM02. Other than that it is an awesome kit. But make sure to mask it inside and out on the canopies and winscreen. I will post an image of SF+RLon my personal FB feed and on Barracuda Studios Ready Room, soon.
@ very true. I still have a lifetime plus of plastic kits now though. I just counted my Wingnut Wings kits and I have 21 plus a bunch of other stuff. I’m 63 years old, so there is no way I’ll build it all.
Hi Jason, Great review of this kit. the only company that comes to mid that do internal and external masking sets are ASK as I used their set for the Airfix 1/72 Beaufighter, whether they do one for this kit, you would have to do some research, possibly on the Hannants website. Have a great week.
I find it odd that some tamiya kits come with 2 instuction sets.....1 of them is in several different languages but no japanese, while the other set is Japanese only.
This looks like a great kit to build.
Hi Jason, looks like a very nice kit of a very interesting plane. Would look very nice next to Lysander and Piper Cub :) Have a great day, Dom
Storch from Tamiya is a wonderful kit!
Rather expensive but great.
Good luck building it!
Hi Jason, Nice kit. I like the metal parts and the way they molded the clear parts right with the gray. Thanks for sharing, have a great day. Jeff
Lovely kit
I like your new introduction to your You Tube channel.

Saw 1 of these at an airshow back in either 88 or 89 and it was flying so slow it was almost hovering

@brettpeacock9116 the slow speed handiling and flying characteristic s of this aircraft need to be seen to be believed.

Great review Jason. This kit was on my want list until you spoiled me on wooden ships.

two tips for pronouncing the name: the german "ie" is like the english "ee" and the "ch" is like the scotisch "ch" in "loch"

It was Otto Skorzeny who rescued Mussolini not Canaris. 😊
Of corse I knew that, thinking and filming done allways go hand in hand 😂
Dear Jason, please stop finding all the quirky kits, they cost me money. This is definitely. Quirky.
