Let's talk about what those softwares can't do, at the contrary of a small 5W valve amp (for example). Try to plug any guitar your want, for example a Gibson Jr Double cut away with only one P90 dog ears, or any single coil, single pickup guitar. And even in your demo, i would have been interested to see you playing bridge pickup on a distorted sound Van 51 patch, and slowly turn the volume down step by step. In an valve amp, on disto channel, if you use guitar volume, from 1 to 10, you'll have a clean sound then little crunch, then overdriven sound, then distorted sound. One pickup, one volume button, one valve amp, no effects..... and you go from clean to distortion. NOW... Plug in Guitar rig, BIAS FX, Scuffhamm S-Gear, and all those kind of softwares... Make the sound you like on a distortion config. And then move the volume step by step from 10 to 1. It's a disappointment :-( You'll have the *same sound* , the same distortion, from loud volume.. to low volume.... but still the same distortion. So definitely, those softwares are disappointing. Nothing will never replace the way pickups and volume & tone buttons of guitars, interact with valve amps. And i would like much more 5 Watt amps to be on the market because we all have to practise indoor, with neighbors. And all those softwares don't make the job. And if, one day, someone develope a software able to emulate really the valve response, i'll be interested, whatever the price. Sorry for my english : i'm french.
Nobody said it has to replace valve amp. Guitar Rig has its adventages and adventages. Valve amps too. Like everything. He use it to record his lessons to get same tone anytime and to not fight with setting mic and amp anytime. Nowadays we have different ways to practise and play guitar. Computer software, pods, modeler amps, anything like boss waza air and classic valve amps. Its not about what is better. Its about what do you need it for and if you enjoy it. Everybody knows that valve sounds the best...
By the way, guitar rig cleans up ok... you can even use a midi pedalboard to control a virtual volume pedal. most of my rigs have a volume pedal with a minimum volume set at a clean sound and I can go from clean to dirt with my foot.
Interesting fact: Guitar Rig 6 sounds same as Guitar Rig 5. No sound changes between 6 and 5 version. There are already many such comparisons. My channel is no exception. I've been a fan of Guitar Rig for many years. But version 6 is a disappointment...
the wat to prove this is easy... record a dry track. pass it through the same preset on gr5 and 6 on 2 tracks, and reverse the phase on one of the track. if the tracks cancel each other, the amp sims are identical.
I just did the test and the amp sims are not identical. Even if you bypass the cab section. GR6 has a new collection of matched cabinets from Ownhammer that will differenciate even more.
Do you work for NI? GR6 is awful. The first clean preset was anything but clean and it sounded like mud. Then, the "Van Halen" preset did not even come CLOSE to anything resembling his tone! It was terrible! Not just as a failed attempt at the famous "Brown Sound" tone but it fails as a tone period! The same goes with the U2 AC30 Vox style preset. It was lame. The current GR5 and GR4 have much better Vox amps, especially GR4. I'm sticking with Bias 2 as well as Amplitube 5.I can't believe you said that you "Adore"? it!
