This movie truly has one of the most beautiful and emotional film scores of all-time and it wouldn't have anywhere near as much impact without it. This film never fails to move me to tears every time I watch it and the music is a massive part of that.
@@johndickson1939 Same for me. (spoilers) Every time I watch the film and it gets to the end montage with footage of the real people and it reveals that Miss Riley and Homer's father died, I break down. I love this film so much but feel every time I watch it I have to emotionally brace myself because by the end I'm a bawling mess. To me, that's always a sign of a great film when it's powerful enough to make you emotional like that.
Unbelievably inspirational...This movie touches me oh so deeply. "No... Coal mining may be your life, but it's not mine. I'm never going down there again....... I wanna go into space." Best line ever. I choke up every time.
The first time I saw this movie, I was 8 yeards. I loved it. Now at 17, I sometimes find myself whistling this piece, and I could never figure out where I knew it from, until by chance, the move was on last night on AMC. Fantastic movie, fantastic soundtrack.
Even my dad who is not big on movies absolutely loved this film. Mark Isham did a great job of combining the isolation of Coalwood with the dreams of the rocket boys into this soundtrack.
I read the book, and I love the way the movie opens up with this song, it sums up the whole coal mining aspect of it perfectly. One of the best opening scenes ever!
i saw this movie when it had just came out, i was 7 still love it, after all the years have passed, this was why i aspired to be a civil engineer, this is why i have all i do, thank you, so, so, so much for posting this :'D
i have seen this movie at least 70 times to the point where i used to lie and bed and recite the first hour of dialogue in the movie...you could call it an obsession. the book is good too
@TheNewRiflemanBob Me too, man. I'm at college right now...A Biochemistry major. I watched this movie my second night here because it reminds me of what I have to do to succeed and that the only way to fail is to give up. Cheers, mate.
What comes to mind is why in GODS name do they have a dislike button...Everyone knows its not to express opinion but just an act of defiance with the rest of the other's and ignorance for good work and music. Such as this one.
After watching this film for the first time I wanted to go out and do something scientifically great. I'm currently graduating from high school and I'll be in college in a couple of months. This year I've taken classes in physics, chemistry, and pre-cal. I have done very well in all of these classes. My dream is to become a theoretical physicist. I'm not saying that this film made me want to become a physicist but it contributed to my drive in science. My main inspiration is "The Time Machine".
Its on sale for > or = to $40 on amazon and the like. They discontinued production so ts hard to find. Im with you thought, if they sold this album on itunes i would be one of the first in line.
My friend and I are now building a rocket from scratch and our first motor test blew up on my fence like in the movie xD Good thing it was a metal fence though!
One time when I was a kid my school grades were poor, and because of that my father threw my scientific project (my first Tesla Coil) out in the rain. I literally gathered up all the pieces, in the wet cardboard box that they were in, and brought them back inside. Ended up rebuilding everything...wasn't too bad...but 5 years later I was working at a plasma propulsion lab at NASA. No joke. I urge you to look up "Homer Hickam" here on UA-cam, to see what he says about small town life : )
1 person triped and fell on his keyboard causing him to dislike he tried to fix it but then his computer died and then he forgot.. thats almost sader than titanic

Me too everytime it's a happy tears for me but I still get choked up. Saddest part is about Ms. Riley

I loved this movie! Homer Hickim had such a gifted mind!
just started listening to this song after my Best dog just died :'( so sad....
Beautiful. The soundtrack on a whole has a rather sad tone to it but it's a great work.
i am disappointed with that dislike. for a song that makes me cry, and someone dislikes it
xD 8 years old. Good thing I know how to type. But thank you for posting this.
