My good friends - how do you do this !!!!!!!!!! I was raised just outside of Chester ( before the family moved south ) but I still recall the huge excitement that the tracking of Sputnik by the Jodrell Bank Telescope created. My father knew one of the technician, so we were able to have a ( very ) short visit, but from a child's memory the interior working areas were of course far more primitive than the high tech computers and interactive displays that the visitor can see and experience today.
It was, and to a degree still is an important telescope, but it`s outreach now for keen young astronomers is beyond price, so Jodrell Bank retains it`s important and historical place in the astronomical and science communities.
Thank you ever so much for bringing me this little bit of my childhood :)

Thank you, and I am glad you enjoyed it. We have more to share from our visit to Chester too, maybe more memories for you, although I am not sure when that will air (A bit of a mammoth task I have been putting off)
What we took from the experience was that it was for everyone, so educational, but also a great story behind it too.
Thanks as always for the support and taking the time to comment,
      Best wishes,
      Gary & Janis

@@OurWorldForYou You visited Chester also ?????? Wonderful :) Over many decades I spent quite a bit of time around Chester, for the most part exploring the remains ( and history - of course ) of the Roman ' Deva ' the largest Roman military settlement outside of London, and with the best preserved Roman walls. Sadly, and regrettably the over enthusiastic Victorians irreparably damages many of the medieval buildings within the city, but Chester Cathedral still preserves much of its medieval structure.
Jolly good - I look forward it :)

Chester was wonderful; we spent a great couple of nights exploring the city. So many layers of history, and faux history, the unique Rows with the Victorians creating fake Tudor, and the listed Dee house built on the other half of the Roman amphitheatre (They had no idea what they were building on at the time)
The other shocking thing is that the Racecourse used to be a harbour or part of it. The passage of time is amazing.
Anyway, will need to get to work on that video sometime soon.
      All the best,
      Gary & Janis

@@OurWorldForYou Yes, the racecourse !!!!! The River Dee estuary ( as you will know ) in Roman times was navigable, with a harbour close to Deva - and one can still see some of the few remaining harbour walls close to the racecourse - if you know where to look :)
It was why Deva was most likely being considered the staging point for an invasion of Ireland - and the reason for why Deva was such a large military encampment.
Yes those pesky Victorians, over indulging in their fantasy whims - but there are plenty of real medieval internal structures that still survive in various buildings :)
So pleased you enjoyed your visit though - how marvelous !!!!
