The Wicker Man and the Elusive Hare - VANLIFE SCOTLAND
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 вер 2024
- Join us, Carol & Ken, as we travel to Scotland in our Consort Nova Motorhome called Snoopy.
In this video we wake up for a second morning at the wonderful Isle of Whithorn.
We head into the town of Whithorn to collect an important (to us ☺️) package before exploring St Ninian’s Priory in search of the shrine of St Ninian.
Our next stop is Burrowhead, the filming location of the 1973 film, The Wicker Man, where we take a blowy walk to admire the coastal views then cook up our first all-electric meal.
Will we finally capture the elusive hare that we have been seeing at this park up, on camera?

Sound is awful in this episode folks so I can only apologise. Troubles with the edit. Will try to sort it out. 🤔. Make sure in UA-cam Settings you have ‘Stable volume’ turned on and all should be fine.
I didnt notice anything awful with the sound to be honest. Just another highly enjoyable vlog from my favourite UA-camrs 👍
An old mate of mine had a bald spot so had a tattoo of a rabbit on his head ! From a distance it looked like hare 😉
Give me the contact number 😁👍

Thanks guys, one of our favourite films, especially the music, so great to see the location 👍
Our pleasure! 😀
Carol is glowing in the sunset ❤
Loved Edward Woodward as an actor, esp in the Wicker man, but also in Callan and The Equalizer. I was a Triang Hornby boy back in the day not Meccano 😁 thank you for the fascinating history, cheers, Garry from DownUnder
Never had Triang Hornby but I bet it was good 😁👍
The film location is stunningly beautiful as was the sunset. You were lucky with the weather. Love one pot meals, makes life easier 😊. Have a lovely weekend
@@Anita-rq9ev the weather was kind to us that day 🙂👍
During the making of the wicker man when Brit Eckland stripped for the raunchy scenes it was realised her bosom’s were smaller than the producer had hoped, however a local lady with suitable equipment stepped in to be a body double. Another piece of useless information. Great video.
😁👍. These days I could step in 😁👍
Love all the nicknames you have for carol. . Really enjoy your vlogs thank you.

Hi kids from Spain. I've never watched the Woaker Man so it is now downloading and I'll watch it at some point. Has been hot here and currently 8.30 pm it is 31°.
It was 31°c here the other day but at least it cooled down at night. Much too hot for us Brits without aircon in our homes 🥵
Brilliant, love the filming of the hare. We might make the same stew but swap the chorizo for something vegetarian, sausages or tempeh. Great ideas, one pot campervan cookery book needed😀🚐❤️
@@janetbowen7854 thanks for watching. Enjoy your stew 🙂
Another great history lesson. Nice little village. Beautiful weather in this village as well. Beautiful scenery for sure. That stew I could almost smell.. looked delicious. I’ll have to try that at some point.

Your massive rabbit running down the road made me instantly think of the movie and song,
“Here comes Peter cottontail, hopping down the bunny trail”. I’m glad he/she came out to show off for you. Happy and safe travels.
Smashing as always.
It wouldn’t be a tasty meal without Ken doing the policeman’s hand rub. 😂
Another relaxing episode, and we love spotting hares too. You are great ambassadors for travel in scotland as van lifers ❤
Thank you! It was a very relaxing trip and a great part of Scotland, less busy than the NC500😃

Loved mr Hare. He was a beauty. Thank you for taking us with you on this trip😀👍
Our pleasure. Glad you could join us 🙂
Memorable Teal Aircraft in the Wicker Man with Edward Woodward not flying it but the owner Chris Murphy was. It didn't last long after that tho. Whithorn looks like a real kool [not cool as in cold] place. Love stone buildings! Intriguing those couple of red bricks on the stone wall though! I promise I wont look if you go skinnydippin 😂 Thanks m8, that was a good'n. Particularly remebering Edward Woodward and the Wickerman. That was the second movie I saw where the 'Hero' died, the other one was, The Wake of the Red Witch' with John Wayne. Thanks m8s, done well, stay vertical Eh!
I thought that about the plane at the start 👍
Beautiful spot for the night.
Try Chick pea and Chorizo soup, easiest ever. 2 tins tomatoes, 2 tins chick peas and the juice and I onion. Boil up and blend a little, add any seasoning to taste. As Ken would say “delicious “
@@annrimmington8690 sounds good 🙂👍

As always, a right treat!
Another wonderful video. I always look forward to your dinners ! They always look so scrumptious!
Lovely video - thank you! We haven't been to that area since 1990 so must return. I must say I'm very impressed with the insulation and finish on the rear doors of your new van. Not a piece of bare metal in sight. Best wishes, Laura
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching 🙂
Another great video...good cath of the hare!❤
Sadly Amazon say delivery anytime upto 22:00 if they do give a time slot that changes.
Since I am on my own these days so invested in one of those cook pot's, happy memories of Scotland preferred the West side.
If you and Carol like Walkers shortbread their factory has a seconds shop all that could be wrong is one biscuit is broken in the packaging so instead of wasting the wrapping they just send it to the shop the address is on the box Baxter's has a cafe and some shops.
Thanks for the tip 👍
Thanks

What a stunning spot to wake up to. Always enjoy your vids.
Thanks 👍
Looked a lovely spot for lunch on top of the cliff 😊
I live in the countryside and used to see hare's "boxing" during the breeding season. They are lovely creatures but sadly no road sense. That coupled with hare coursing has seen the numbers decline.Although I'm glad to say things are now being done to stop hare coursing.
I remember watching The Wicker Man and it gave a red herring or two before the final shocking scenes.(Not going to ruin it for others who haven't seen it).Another enjoyable video.Thank you Carol and Ken.Safe travels.See you on the next.

Your video was soothing. Thank you both 😎
Lovely scenery
What a lovely area, and the new pot looks a game changer for you
Those electric saucepans are very good, we have one we use when we travel. Ours also has only 2 settings which I sometimes find is too powerful if you are cooking a thick sauce (ours isn't non-stick so it can scorch). I built a little power adaptor that allows me to regulate the power down to just 50W which works great. You can buy a ready made solution that should work as well if you find you have the same problem as we do..
We found a work around which is coming up in a few episodes. What should we search for to regulate the power ?
@@LifeistooshortCK You want a 240v SCR speed controller. There will be many names for them such as "motor speed controller" or "Voltage regulator". You can buy the circuit alone very cheaply as I did and then wire up your own adaptor or you can buy them ready wired with a plug and socket. You want something rated for at least 1000W which will be plenty for your 600W cooker. The controller will have a dial to set the power level and mine will go from a low of about 50W up to the full 600W, it works very well and lets me get a nice gentle simmer for thick soups etc. Make sure when you use it that your cooker is set to the high power setting and then use the controller to adjust this, don't use the low setting as at least in my case it doesn't work very well.
The circuit alone is about £3, a fully assembled version will be about £20. If you have any trouble finding it, let me know and I'll email you some links.
Thanks for the tips 👍
You should write a cook book. Carol n kens delicious dishes 😋😋
