I’m 83. Watched this back video all the way through. Thank you, for your explanation. I have been doing your biceps and triceps ex’rs, for three weeks, I like them. Did not care for information on all the muscles involved in the movements. The back video changed my mind! I will pay attention and learn. Thank you!
Great to hear! Understanding the anatomy and biomechanics behind the exercises is key! It helps you make sure you're using proper form and hitting the right muscles the right way for optimal results 👍
Micheal, why do you wear elastic bands around your arms when you exercise them? What does it do? And sometimes the elastic bands are moved to the top of the arm and sometimes at the elbow. Any reason for that?
Watched this yesterday, which was also back day. Tried it last night as a finisher and I don't think there was any part of my back not feeling worked. Love it! I used a weight that allowed me to go down and up twice with 10 to 11 quick shrugs.
UPDATE: The full 8-Week Maximum Gains Series - Total Back Program is now officially available for Beta-Testing!! Go to this link: www.dr-gains.com/offers/3KzMbXrF/checkout and use the code BACK-BETA-50 for 50% OFF!! Beta-Tester slots are limited so secure yours today! 🔥
Just here to say lately me and my friends are getting a lot of you video recommendations and we all love it and implement it on our workout. And also hopefully this and next year you will keep uploading more content bc i have a feeling your channel is going to boom in 2022
Thanks for this introduction to the back muscles, it is important to know the anatomy of the underlying muscles to make a better exercise selection and optimize the movement to target a specific muscle more.
I have seen so many exercise videos, but Michael you offer some of the best explanations and details, with very applicable exercise variations. Really enjoy your take. Many thanks!
Absolutely love the content, very few UA-cam channels out there break it down like this and show how to work all the muscles from different angles. Recently watched your calve video as well and it was the first time I came across doing the calve raises from a bending position as well to ensure to work the other calve muscle. Keep up the amazing work 👏
Great timing, Im goibg to train my back and abs today. I always use your technique behind anatomy. It really works plus save my time hitting all the targets in one exercise. Amazing!!! Thank you for continuing sharing your knowledge.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Aloha Dr. Kamalu, the legendary Dr. Gains! Your content has dramatically improved my understanding of my physiology and anatomy. I truly appreciate my body for what it is and what it could be because of your videos! After applying the many concepts of the biomechanics at play with gravity and where each muscle tissue is truly activated, I’ve been noticing huge results. I’ve been getting some gains in the gym! I’m sure I’m one of many people who have been positively affected by your work and would definitely love to see a community grow out of this.
Hey Aaron - I really appreciate you taking the time to tell me about your results! I absolutely love to hear when my content brings people real value like that 🙏 Keep it up!
Everyone lifting must understand what muscles they are hitting when working out . Everyone lifting must subscribe to this channel to understand the muscle anatomy. This Dr has a greater knowledge in explaining very clearly.
Your videos are so awesome! I haven't found another channel anywhere that is as science-based or as helpful as this one for working out. Super appreciate this one especially. Please keep making your videos..
I really like the content and information on your channel. Your explanations of origin and insertion points, diagrams, and live exercises have helped me out a great deal. I was wondering if you would ever consider doing calisthenic versions of working the triceps in the future for those of us with no access to cable machines or free weights. Thanks!
I'll add that to my to-do list! Feel free to also use the feedback / request form I put in the video description for that and any other content you'd like to see - it'll help push it up my priority list, and I can notify you when the content you requested is available 👍

Dr. Gains! So gd to see and im so happy to be back. Was goin thru some health issues and im in such a better place now. If ur offering ur workout program id love to purchase it. Ill be on look out for it. Thanx again Doc really missed ur channel. Stay safe!
Hey Eddy - great to hear from you and that you're feeling better! My shoulder programs are currently available (two versions), and I've started a beta-tester waitlist for my back program - links are in the video description! 👊
Absolutely informative, doc! Love from India. Gonna incorporate these advices in my training! please make a video on how to sustainably lose body fat especially those stubborn love handles and lower abs. cheers

Check out Voice of Armwrestling channel and thank me later. No athlete in any other sport has the depth of development in the forearms as armwrestlers.
very interesting breakdown. just the right amount of detail for me :) my anatomy knowledge is basically zero, so this helps a lot with fine tuning my back exercises. thank you!
Hi Dr Gains, everything you say makes total sense when you incorporate all of the physiology. Thanks for this! One question. I feel like I could do these types of exersizes with a good assortment of bands, do you see any downside to this?
You're very welcome! You can definitely replicate most exercises with bands.. the one big difference is that the resistance with bands is variable rather than constant (resistance gets "heavier" as you stretch it). That's not always a bad thing though, and you can still get much of the benefits!
I have started watching your stuff recently after spending the last year with a few other channels like Athlean X etc. I like your explanations and love your exercise creations and combos. Innovative with purpose! I will say, I am in Rochester and a heart transplant patient of many years, doing my best to stay healthy in middle age. My wife is a doc here and it's cool to see you were a med student. Saw that mentioned in an older video. Are you still at Mayo?

Hi Dr. Gains, great video! These videos you make are super helpful and I have never found anyone as good as you to explain stuff in this detail yet clear and understandable. Do you think you can do a video on reps/sets? On how heavy you should work out? If you should increase weights during the workout? If you should lift untill you get tired or do as heavy as possible? The exercises and the ways to do them that you show has really helped me, but I would find some info from you on how heavy they should be done for maximal gains and minimal pains really helpful to, or just some info about the subject!
I'll add that to my to-do list! Feel free to also use the feedback / request form I put in the video description for that and any other content you'd like to see - it'll help push it up my priority list, and I can notify you when the content you requested is available 👍

Hou said the traps are primarily fast twitch muscle fibers. Could you do a run down of all the major body parts and describe what type generally is dominant there?
I'll add that to the list! Maybe I can include something along those lines in the video on muscle fiber types I'm planning. To train the lats I prefer to be at more of a 45 degree angle and pull back and down, as you pointed out. When I train them at 90 degrees I usually find that the limiting factor are my lumbar muscles.
Agreed!
Thx for the detailed analysis - if one cannot bend to 90 degrees, would you recommend a regression exercise or hinge at the hip to the extent possible ??
I'd say give both a shot, and stick with whatever feels best! If you can't go all the way down you'll definitely want to supplement this exercise with other ways to target the lats and lower back 👍
