hmm i don't think the tree dead this sort of art is made so tree stays alive that why he was burning it to stop it from dieing and to stop sap coming out and mess up the work
+prasolovvv I believe the "tree" is actually a tall stump, not a live tree. If you watch carefully in the early part of the video you will see where the the top of the tree is gone. So, no tree to lose. They simply turned the stump into a sculpture.

To do this you need:
