    Hello Karate Fam,
    In today'a lesson I present to you Kata Jitte. There is an old saying in Shotokan Karate, that if one practices Kata Jitte extensively, one will be able to defend himself against 10 opponents at once. I remember Lyoto Machida, one of the UFC legends who practices Shotokan Karate, was advised by his father to practice this Kata in preparation for one of his MMA fights.
    Whether this saying is true or not, it is a short elegant Kata, though it has bursts of activity and strong postures. I hope you all enjoy and just know that I am not perfect but try to improve everyday. This is my Kata Jitte as of today. Feel free to comment and share your experiences with this Kata.
    OSS,
    Jason

    Your kata breakdowns are awesome, so keep it up, but I would like to offer two critiques: 1. You don't have enough hip rotation in your techniques so they don't appear as powerful as they can be and 2. you're often pivoting on the ball of your foot, not on the heel. In our dojo, they really emphasize those two points (among many others) as we seek perfection of character. (Jinkaku kansei ni tsutomuru koto)

    • @zdp303
      @zdp303 2 місяці тому

      I usually don't comment on videos but I've got some time to kill so why not!
      From your comment, I've deduced you're likely a purple or brown belt aspiring to be a black belt. Good for you! You're probably seeking perfection and exploring improvement and so you're here looking for it in others - that's really great. Karate is about growth so wanting to help someone else grow is admirable. Definitely don't lose that quality.
      However, if your dojo is teaching you that "perfection of character" means focusing on hips and rotation action / technique based elements, find another dojo. If that's what YOU think it means, I encourage you to do some more work on the self before coming to comment here on higher level Katas (or any level Katas for that matter).
      Karate is a way of life, and in the spirit of perfection of character, humble yourself and I promise to do the same.
      I won't comment for Sensei, but for me, I see clear techniques broken down effectively for (most usually) Karateka looking on their phones for guidance whilst training in the Dojo. As much as I enjoy watching the speed and sharpness of World champions such as Arimoto Sensei performing Kata, it's not necessarily as instructive as these videos.
      tl:dr in the spirit of perfection of character, use this as a moment to reflect and use karate going forward to become the best individual you can be.
      Peace

      @@zdp303 Hello ZDP. It seems you misunderstand me. All the comments are overwhelmingly positive here, as they should be, because Ultimate Karate does great breakdowns of the Katas, which is why we're all here, and not what I have issue with. But if we're not able to accept a little "constructive" criticism, then how will we grow? As a Karateka of any level, we should never be too proud to humbly receive constructive criticism.
      The hip rotation/vibration for some of the moves, in some of these videos, in my opinion, appear too small to be effective, which will make for weaker strikes and blocks. If I move on the ball of my foot, rather than the heel, in certain cases, my centre of gravity, is not correctly placed. Is that easy? Of course not! But that's what we we work towards. Do I have perfect hip rotation or always perfect centre of gravity? Absolutely not!! If you're in disagreement with me here, perhaps its you who may need to visit a new dojo. Perhaps one in Japan?
      When I referenced "seeking perfection of character" I meant it in the shallow sense with regards to the techniques of karate, not in the broader sense, which we should all aspire to, but never achieve, because a. its not possible and b. its the "seeking" that is the essence of living. Our dojo, like so many others out there, believes in the human spirit and is always finding new ways for its participants to give back to the community at large, which is bigger than the "self".
      Ossu!
