I've only played/run Blades in the Dark a few times, but I love it. This video made me love it more. Plus it explains it to my players better than I can!
I fricking love Blades in the Dark. It was my first experience with TTRPGs and I've tried a few others so far but always come back to Blades. Every other RPG feels so extremely limited compared to Blades. My GM motto in Blades: Can you phrase it? Than you can do it. Roll to see how well you do it. You can reach a goal with every single skill check by just phrasing it correctly and only determing position and effect. As a GM I just stopped prepping more than a few notes 5 minutes before we start. Because you don't need to. The game just flows. :D My PCs can't even entirely derail anything. Great Review! Liked and subscribed.
Started playing in my first Blades campaign last week, enjoyed the hell out of it. It is mechanically intense, not in terms of numbers but in terms of how many of the systems interlock with each other. Despite the "crunchiness," as some might call it, the mechanics really are in service of creative and expressive roleplaying. The rules are not roll-play vs role-play, they are one and the same (as a properly designed game should be).
If you play RPG's for the Role play, and there is a GM who likes to improvise and think on their feet - you will love this If you play RPG's for the tactical combat, or your GM likes to prepare - this is not the game for you
Blades is my favorite. Perfect for face time sessions because you don't even need a board. Easy to have anyone DM if they typically don't but want to try to run a session.
Finding I much prefer “play to find out what happens” over play to find out what the Adventure Path has predetermined will happen regardless of what your character does. Coming from GMing PF2 which takes hours, running this game feels so freeing.
To be fair, i run all my homebrew games like that, even in prep heavy games like PF2. Rough outline of a scenario , tons of ideas roaming around in my head, but i end up improving a ton based on those, and base next sessions on what happened during the last one I personally believe that as good as their modules and APs can be, a game exists beyond those
True, since I got out of my dnd comfort zone, all other ttrpg's are clearly above it. It's like I've been fooled all this time--the greatest role-playing game in the world? Mah
I really love BItD but I did find it to be a little dense mechanically in ways that didn't personally enhance the game for me. I recently found Charge RPG by Fari RPGs that spins BitD's mechanics into a rules lite genre-less SRD. I took it and cleaned up the text and hacked it a little for my own liking, thanks to their Creative Common license. I can't wait to get it to the table and start playtesting!
This game seems like a great second campaign to run. My main campaign is a lot of fun but my players are super unreliable and I want to actually play a game without them constantly cancelling last minute. I can't spare the time to prep for two games at once, but Blades in the Dark doesn't seem like it requires much prep, because I can just make stuff up on the fly and it won't come back to bite me like it might in DND or Pathfinder.
I watched Zee Bashew video about this game. One of his criticism was that the calendar and time system in this game has their own names which could be very jarring for new comers.
Zee Bashew apparently never played in most of the D&D official campaign settings. MANY OF THEM DO THE SAME THING! After hearing that nitpick, I lost a lot of respect for Zee Bashew.
Its godawful how the game basically tells you your character doesn't matter Or any character for that matter Doesn't even sound like a RPG Sounds like playground make believe
1:08 "The city urine is protected by a giant electrified fence..." is what I heard. And yeah, that IS metal as all hell.
Great and fun review of a game that changed how I run all my games.
Same here. It’s literally a gamechanger.

Doskvol also draws inspiration from Vienna before it was bombed to rubble.
And some parts perhaps slightly inspired by Vienne AFTER it was bombed to rubble
can you explain everything in my life in this format?

I bought the digital version twice. Yes, it's THAT good :D
Greetings from Germany.
Best comprehensive explanation of FitD games I’ve come across. Good job 👍🏼

Anything is better than D&D 🤷🏻♂️

Wholeheartedly agree. It's just so smooth. it's like an shot of inspiration to the heart.
This sounds exactly like what I'm looking for! Thank you so much for this awesome introduction 🎉

its hands down my favorite game

This was a super fun video, your voice carries a huge amount of energy.
Yes! Great game - great explanation!! Will definitely be showing new players!
Quick, funny and very interesting review. I knew bitd, but have yet to play it. Immediately subscribed, you have so few!!!
Thank you for helping to remedy that. Glad you enjoyed!
Love some of these innovations. Competition can only improve rpgs as a whole
Fast and excellent summarized. 👍
I mean depending on who you talk to, there literally hundreds of games better than D&D.
I watched Zee Bashew video about this game. One of his criticism was that the calendar and time system in this game has their own names which could be very jarring for new comers.
A lot of that is solved by just... ignoring most of the story.
As compared to all the other made up names in D&D? 😂
Zee Bashew apparently never played in most of the D&D official campaign settings. MANY OF THEM DO THE SAME THING!
After hearing that nitpick, I lost a lot of respect for Zee Bashew.
A great review of one of my favorite games! Sub'd!
You good sir just earned yourself a subscriber

Sounds like playground make believe
Felt like a wanna be of dishonored.
What does "This progressive company" mean?
