Anytime a person of color does something good. They don't want it told. Black History Month is the shortest month, then it's shared with Valentine. Heart month. Half of what Black Americans have did for this country is not even a tiny bit mentioned. Any person of color espically Native Americans, and Black Amercians. It's sad. it boggles the mind that there isn't an epic movie about this mans life. his story is so amazing as to almost be unbelievable even as it is true. its a travesty that in a day that cries out for a role model for Black Americans that so very few are even aware of this man's story. the guy is one of my personal heroes i was fortunate as an avid reader of history to have learned of him at a young age though he didn't get the attention that many military heroes got so there wasn't as much in print to keep up with available to me, my interest was rekindled recently on a visit to Georgetown SC i stumbled across a small museum that had quite a display on him, and the Planter. amazing dude this guy was. im proud to call him a hero of mine.

SC Jesus Warrior Now I’m not going to delve into everything you said but I’m going to focus on one key thing: these aren’t just Civil War monuments, these are confederate statues. Statues aren’t made to remember history or even remember the person themself, it’s to congratulate the person on what they did, commemorate them, and make a hero out of them. None of these men were heroes. They fought AGAINST the US government for the preservation of a dying, brutal, inhumane system. And I’m not going off opinion here, every single state’s succession letter included the preservation of slavery and were very explicit about, the confederacy itself prohibited states that joined from abolishing slavery, and the leader of the confederacy himself said it was all built on slavery. In addition to that, it just so happened that the building of a lot of these statues corresponded with the gains and losses of the black community as well as when the KKK peaked. This includes: the 1890s when black people were starting to come up north to get jobs and escape the brutality of the south and the KKK which was founded only 25 years prior but had already spread everywhere in the south and was making its way up north, the 1920s-30s when many hangings took place, the KKK was peaking once again and in the decade before and even leaching into the early 20s (with Tulsa and Rosewood) successful black neighborhoods were subjected to massacres, and the 1960s-70s when the Civil Rights Movement was at its peak. That should tell you something about the people building these statues, what they intended, and what they thought the people they were commending stood for.
There were many other brilliant black men and women during slavery and even now. Smalls is a grand model of that hidden truth. Hallelujah!
