  • Note 1: Zhurong is the god of fire, kitchen, summer, southern region, South China Sea, and Mount Heng in the south. Along with Jumang, Rushou, and Yuqiang, they are collectively known as the ancient directional gods. Together with Hou Tu, they constitute the ancient five elemental gods, governing the element of fire.
Note 2: The identity of Zhurong is recorded in ancient texts with various accounts. Here, we adopt the descriptions from 'Classic of Mountains and Seas: Oversea South Classic,' 'Classic of Mountains and Seas: Inland Classic,' and 'Classic of Mountains and Seas: Western Wilderness Classic.'
Note 3: Ancient texts mention that Sui Ren discovered the method of drilling wood for fire, but Zhurong taught people the simpler and more convenient method of creating fire by striking stones together, as well as how to preserve fire.
Note 4: Xiaji is an ancient Chinese sacrificial ritual. The 'Four Seasonal Sacrifices,' commonly mentioned in Chinese ancient costume dramas or time-travel novels, refer to the four seasonal sacrifices in ancient China: Yueshi (spring), Chidi (summer), Changshi (autumn), and Zhongshi (winter).
Note 5: Regarding the death of Gun, it is commonly taught that he was executed for failing to control the flood. However, in reality, Gun was executed for stealing the magical soil from the celestial realm to control the flood for the benefit of all people. Interestingly, just before Gun's execution, the flood was almost under control. It was only after the heavenly soil was taken back by the celestial realm that the flood worsened, leading to the subsequent task of flood control undertaken by the legendary figure, Yu the Great.

I love Chinese myths it's mysterious and fascinating no wonder China is the oldest country now. India and Greece may protest but both countries were weakened that until now are having a hard time to get back to their previous glory

Thank you. Chinese mythology is divided into five systems: ancient mythology, Taoist mythology, Buddhist mythology, Confucian mythology, and the mythology of various philosophical schools. These systems are independent yet interwoven. Currently, I am working on the deities of the ancient mythology system.
