    Very kind of the interviewer to have rolled out of bed for this.

    I discovered Devine in the last year and although I grew up seeing fragments of the work ( I’m 54) I’m feeling like I missed out on enjoying it in real time, but it’s cinema so we have it forever, now I’m eating up all I can find.

    the interviewer is a real genius.... he gestures with the mic so you can't hear a word he says. Probably just as well.

    Dawn Davenport destroying the christmas tree because she didn't get her cha cha heels, the mom laying under the tree going "not on Christmas, not on Christmas". "im afraid rats are going to come out and bite my new nylons", I mean some of the lines are just classic.

    John just seems like one of the most genuinely happy people. And if he isn't then he clearly looks for the best out of even the most fucked up situation.

    Remember: He cut that line in the Christmas scene when Dawn's mother said "You're breaking my heart", and Dawn quips "you're lucky it's not your neck". Pure comedy and such a pity it was dropped .

    All those taking about J Hoberman act as if you never had an off day. I don't see any of you doing interview or review work. When you start, then you can say something. You are not the end-all be-all of interviewing. None of you will likely leave *anything* behind when you die. At least this interviewer will and he has made a good living doing this. Everything is subjective. Also: Of this very interview John Waters has said he was thankful to not be asked all the same questions for a trillionth time.

  • @StacyWantsYou

    This is a tad bit painful to watch. John looks so at ease. The interviewer looks extremely out of his element and uncomfortable. He asks John questions and isn't even looking in his direction.

    i mean, he isnt using the mic properly, but the interviewer seems fine to me? he doesnt seem awkward, he seems pretty relaxed. he's asking interesting questions, getting great stuff out of waters, and articulating himself clearly enough.

    i like the interviewer actually. he has some trouble articulating sure but he is opening new avenues of conversation by just treating the interview as a conversation. that, and having seen mondo trasho and multiple maniacs in 1970, thats pretty cool as well

    How the "F" did this moderator get this gig? He brings nothing...and asks dunderheaded questions, and wastes a shitload of time agreeing and "ummming" all over the place.
    As someone who does this as well, and bothers to do my research, this is almost offensive. Right down to this dude slouching and looking like he needs a shower. NOT up to standards that Lincoln Center should be exhibiting.

    • @HeatherM0891
      @HeatherM0891 3 роки тому +1

      Almost offensive? He is offensive. I've interviewed many people in my life, and I'm appalled. I f J Hoberman was some college kid, I wouldn't care, but he's an older movie critic, he should know at least how to work a mic, and talk about the film that was screened.

    Worst interviewer EVER! John is just as fabulous as always, but this guy questioning him is miserable! In addition to not knowing how to use a microphone, he also can't form a sentence audibly and understandably.

    • @ClarenceFisher
      @ClarenceFisher 10 років тому +9

      Somehow I think he set the tone. I wasn't there, I wasn't part of it, but I felt awkward watching this. It really is up to the emcee to set the tone and give it some energy, and he seemed to have none.

    • @seansmithson2210

      This dumb ass has a note pad and still asks the most inane and redundant questions possible.
      Fucking amateurish and embarrassing. This actually pisses me off, as an interviewer/moderator myself.

    • @gnomelinen
      @gnomelinen 4 роки тому

      agreed. he comes across as an unfocused schlub (which is even more obnoxious with a fucking notepad) and hardly spent any time talking about Female Trouble. maybe he’s knowledgeable about film or whatever, but this just shows how that knowledge doesn’t necessarily imply a skill for conversing or interviewing people about film.

    I hate when interviewers talk over the guest. This might not have been a good interview with some of these dull “celebrities” but Waters is so charmingly animated. I mean we’re here to listen to John Waters not the interviewer. Lay off the poor guy he was fine. (I didn’t hear a word he said)

    The poor interviewer sometimes looks as if he’s struggling just as hard to focus on squirrels chasing acorns inside his head as he is trying to focus on John. He’s mostly fine, but one wonders if he’s having little LSD flashbacks from the ‘70s at various intervals.
