Hi, friends!
I'm back! I had to take a long break from playing to allow my face to heal from a strange reaction I was having to all of my didgeridoos.
It seems I can play again without the reaction!
This is just a short improvisation in which I'm getting used to playing again. The main idea was to keep a single pulse going (kind of an "all-in-one" breath) while adding other rhythmic adornments.
Please wear headphones or use good speakers for this!
it's vulnerable to share after such a long break from playing, but it has been too long since I've posted anything, so I'm taking the leap!
God damn that was good. That was some seriously epic trance-didge playing.
I've seen most, if not all your videos on the didge and this was by far your best playing. Good to hear you're all healed up!
Wow, thanks so much for those super kind, encouraging words! I have lots of insecutiry about my playing, so it's a push for me to share like this! Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Thank you!
It's easy for me to say but David you should *not* have insecurity about your playing! You have so much positive feedback from your instructional and playing videos. You know that you are really good at a lot of techniques. In my short time playing the didgeridoo I've been fortunate enough to attend workshops given by some of the top didgeridoo players in the world. Mostly what I've learned, above all else, is that the didgeridoo, especially in the ever-developing non-traditional playing styles, is an intensely personal instrument, both for the players and the listeners. Every player has certain sounds and rhythms in their repertoire and every listener has certain sound and rhythms that "speak to" them. You have your didgeridoo language and when you speak it from your heart, there are listeners who will love it. I still have a lot to learn to be able to make the sounds and rhythms I want to make, but I'm taking to heart the advice I've heard to not try to sound like anybody else. I need to discover my own didgeridoo language, as you have done. By the way, one of the things I love to try to play and to listen to is this style of continuous pulsing rhythm with "rhythmic adornments", as you put it. Thank you for this.
@@waltersbg Incredibly wise words. Thank you so much! I really appreciate this, and it's certainly a sentiment I could be repeating to myself more often!
Very dark and sinister rhythm. Haven't heard anything like this on the didge before. Thanks for sharing
Intriguing take on my playing! Thanks for the comment!
Awesome playing sounds like an entity

Wow what a beautiful comment. Thank you! Really appreciate it!!
Wow, amazing playing, never heard this kind of style before. Really inspiring to keep practicing. Can you do a tutorial on this piece? Glad you're back
Thank you so much for the kind words! As for a tutorial, I'm curious to know if there is a specific part of this recording that you like most and would like to see explained? I'll definitely consider it!
@@Breathwood You're welcome. I'm most curious about the very fast "trembles" or "jitters" (I find it hard to name this in words hehe) in the first 30 seconds, especially at 30 sec exactly.
The rhythm is a development or variation of the "Takawa Takawa Tawaka" you've shown in the past videos, I suppose?
@@molimba Aha, I wondered if that was the part you wanted to learn! That's actually just a very fast tkt ktk sequence. No wa/breath. The vowel is somewhere around "uh" but since the articulation is so fast, it kind of disappears a bit. I started with practicing "tktk" as well as long strings of "tkt ktk tkt ktk" without didge. Does that make sense?
That was awesome.
Thank you!!!
Welcome back David! We missed you. While you were taking the long break, i’ve finally purchased my didgeridoo made from bamboo.
Thank you so much! That's sweet! I'm so glad you finally got a didge. How is it going playing it?
Breathwood not to bad, the note is slightly higher than the one in the video. I find the taka taka rhythm easy.
Super inspiring.love your videos , detailed and so "easy to aproach".
Cheers from israel
Thank you so much!
Wow youre awsome !
Do you do a internet 1 on 1 leaaons ?
Thank you! And yes, I do!
Excellent playing!!!!
Can I ask where did you buy this didge from, pls? Did you try before buying? Thanks!
Thank you!
This is from an Australian maker who goes by "Heartland Didgeridoos." I met him at InDidjInUs in Oregon a few years ago and adopted this one from him. And yes, I got to play it first! I always recommend that if possible.
yo!!
Yo! What up!
Have you ever floated a piece of paper by playing at it? I want to try to explain how a didgeridoo can float a piece of paper in a video soon.
I haven't tried! I would be curious to see that!
@@Breathwood my longest time to keep the paper floating is 2 min 22 sec.
took me years to pass the minute mark and years again to pass the 2 min mark.
Where are you lol? I miss your videos 😢😞😒
Aw, that's one of my favorite comments in a long time! So sweet. Thank you! I am still here. I just needed to focus on some other things for a while. After a road trip this coming week, I will be back to making videos again!
I have also been posting a lot on my Patreon page! patreon.com/breathwood
