I have never in my life commented on a UA-cam video. After siphoning fuel (to remove water that wasn’t there) replacing the spark plugs, and pulling/testing the fuel pump on my armada....I found your video. Mine wasn’t a piece of fuzz but a small mosquito. Could not believe something so small would prevent the truck from getting past 2k rpm. No more hesitation, running great. A million thanks!

I have a golf 4 tdi. when I take it over 120km/h the car goes into limp mode then when I switch the car off and on again the boost is back.. you think this could just be my sensor?
Hi there folks, my car is a 1986 Volvo 245 DL. It runs but it has low power when I throttle up in park, ( bogs down) When I remove the M.A.F. plug it seems to idle smoother, but it still bogs when I throttle it up in park. I have cleaned the throttle body & has new gasket, new plugs, new wires, new cap & rotor, new or good vacuum hoses, new intake manifold gasket, new fuel regulator, I cleaned out the Idle air control valve with MAF cleaner & sprayed some lubricant in to the valve, cleaned and replaced all the PCV system, I changed both fuel pump, new fuel, filter, I have a new O2 oxygen sensor coming, ( The only thing I can think of is that either the MAF is bad or the IAC valve is bad) Any suggestion from any Volvo enthusiast? ( By the way, the car sat for 6 yrs, I drained the old gas put fresh fuel, changed the oil and fired right up.)

After a week of trying to get my daughters 2006 Altima to idle I found your video last night. This morning I did exactly as you in the video. A small piece of trash fell out. Sprayed with MAF cleaner, let dry and reinstalled. Cranked it up, idled and ran fine during a test drive. Thank you sir!!

And the guy at the exhaust shop left me with a exhaust leak saying it was as good as it could be fixes and half welded pipes that rattle like crazy and still charged me 300
OZ thanks for your video. I have mercedes Benz W202 C180 behaving the same as that one before you clean it. Now it's only cranking and dies down like that. Does this mean means it's mass air flow sensor or crank sensor? Please help me I parked my car for a year now failing to get help please.

I cleaned the sensor and it keeps dieing but if I unplug it and start up it stays running just the rpms are up and down???
Clayton the next thing you need to do is look up the codes to see what they show
We had a similar issue with a ford that came in the shop running horribly, and upon inspection of the maf, we found a fuzzball in the idle bleed port. Pulled it out and problem solved. No charge to customer.
Decent vid,Oz, you forgot to say, " do not use carb cleaner since it will leave chemical residue that will keep tripping the light"..Use MAF cleaner only.
I actually watched a video they showed different methods of cleaning it. All did they damage but yea carb did the most out of them
Always vacuum the air box when changing the air filter. You have to get any loose debris out of there. Use top quality air filters and change them on schedule. If you live in a dusty area, you will need to change the filter more often.

Hi there. Chris here from England UK. my Nissan almera tino 2004 1.8ltr. the same is happening to my car. It cuts out when in idle. especially when stopped at the traffic lights for a while. it will just start to drop below 800rpm and sometimes stop or goes back up. I will try cleaning the throttle body and MAF Sensor. thanks for the video
Removing the connection to the maf while engine running, a good maf will stall the engine , a bad maf will let it run.
However will it not mess up th air intake??? Please advice.

Oz Mechanics hey man, i cleaned it, and it seem to be fixed, but it keeps stalling and also i gotta hit the gas lots of times so the temperature goes up until it reaches the middle or either the car would, well, turn of and it shakes, and after that its normal, and if i let it rest for 2 hours the engine gets cold and i got to do the same thing again, i clean the throttle and clean the MAFS and also replaced the thermostat so idk, i have a 2001 toyota corolla so if someone can help me please, thanks.

Is it possible to have bad maf sensor without a check engine light? My car has rough idle and hesitates when i press a bit harder on the pedal typically under 3k rpms
several sources say to clean the MAF sensor with MAF sensor cleaner ONLY, and to NOT use any other type of cleaner or carburetor cleaner.
+Giuseppe Manugas ive read them before. carb cleaner when sprayed and making sure its completely dry at the resistors should not cause any problems

I have a 11’ mustang and it starts rattling and i thought it was my cats and an exhaust shoo told me they were good so i think its my air flow sensor
oz i thought mass air flow sensors were very delicate and had to be handled gently.
true that. what i do is spray them down and then let the, dry if not get a air gun and dry them out. should do the job. if the internals of the sensor are bad no type of cleaning of the maf will do anything
You do not use an air gun or carb cleaner. Both are too harsh for the fragile wire. Use only Mass Air Flow cleaner, and be patient with letting it dry, at least half an hour.
Ed Baker I've used this method for yr since my teacher thought me this and haven't had a problem since.
I liked the video. Rather than just show how to replace the part he explained what it does and how to troubleshoot to save both time and money. He is direct and to the point. Took my car for this simple fix to local garage. Mechanic sprayed brake cleaner or fluid on the sensor NOT map sensor cleaner. After replacing it the car refused to start. Car is still at the garage 2 weeks later and i am now driving a courtesy car. Beyond frustrating.

Awesome video and the best part to you are honest I do most repair in my cars I'm a vw & audi fan and most fails for these cars are relate to the map sensor when is about loosing power or boost 2.0 vw jetta sometimes give you this trouble just because the map is dirty or also the throttle body 1.8 turbo manifold pressure/boost sensor (g31) p0238 code is also relate to the map sensor only takes 10 minutes clean it clear codes and your back with not lights ..this could sometimes the cure at least you have some leaks or wire bad connections ..I'm not a mechanic i just a simple computer tech that goes beyond my knowledge keep the good work my friends greetings from Houston..

If the maf sensor is working and you unplug it will the car stop running? My wife's 2016 Honda civic is hesitating/jerking when accelerating and I unplugged the maf sensor and it continued running. I tried cleaning the sensor with maf cleaner and it didn't help.
Sir!!! I have toyota MRS 2000 with 1zz engine, my engine light turns on after 10-15mins idle/driving, I'm also experiencing misfire in my muffler, I have the same error code P0171, what should I do? I don't trust the mechanic here, he's just also searching in internet how to fix P0171, I'm just afraid of spending money to replace every parts that might cause P0171.

They say that the typical pattern of a bad MAF is a vehicle that is running rich at rest, lean under load. How often do you see that?
First I do need to apologize on these old videos. Not the best I’ve produced. Normally I noticed that you see more of the fuel trim discrepancy while the vehicle is under load. I like looking at the fuel trims in freeze frame to see if it was running lean while the vehicle was under load, after that I want to verify if this is a fuel issue or air issue, so I run the VE test. Volumetric effeminacy test
Hey Oz I replaced my maf sensor and the car starts up and idles fine…but as soon as you step on the gas….the engine drops out and throws a code for the maf….it’s a 1992 Lexus ls400 ….I think it’s my ECU as there a known issue.

I have a 1998 Mercedes slk 230 when I put my car in the on position my radiator fan turns on at full blast and doesn't turn off and doesn't let the car start at all. I have noticed that my car has been doing this at random times for the past couple months But it always started up in a couple minutes after the fan Stop. I have been looking into forums and they say it could be my mass flow air sensor BUT my check engine light never popped up only when I disconnected the sensors plug it did can you help -thanks
Its been 6 months since I have problems with my mazda 3 1.6 2008. In idle it is rough, on accelerating it has problems, when I turn on AC it slows the shit out of it. I have been in two licensed mazda repair shops, they changed chain, spark plugs, oxygen sensor .. and the problem is still there. I will try this fix by myself. If it turns out that this is the case .. I will sue them all. xd
I just paid $230 for a mechanic to find this problem and half fix it. Now I gotta hold the hold the accelerator at 2000 rpms for at least 10min to be able to drive...HELP!!!
ok I have a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera S (3.3l v6) it wouldn't stay running, unplugged the MAF sensor and solved the issue. Now I have replaced the sensor with a brand new one and if I plug it in it still dies right away. Any thoughts on what my issue is?

hey OZ...my car does the same thing...code was p0201 maf sensor low voltage...I sprayed the sensor with cleaner...its starts up a couple of times and that's it, it goes back to not starting...would you say its time to replace the sensor??
My 2001 Kia sportage is idling high at 2000 RPM, has no vacuum leaks, as I disconnect the mass air flow sensor it idling at 1000 or 900 but sound rough at 900.. I reconnect it n it goes back to 2000! Bad mass air flow sensor?
Wifes 2003 nissan sentra has ran perfect, went out today and liked to never got it started. Sputtered and sputtered and finally kept running, drove down the street no acceleration when stepping on the gas, it would slowly start to pick up speed. if you turn off motor hard to start again, had the hood up, also got a backfire by airbox.

I have a 2005 nissa murano , and i changed the fuel pump , and it ran for about 40 mins , pulled back into my driveway , and ran inside came back out my car was cut off , where it had crank down . tried too crank it back up . and it want start up again , it will turn over but want start . i changed the crank senor yesterday , and it wasn't it because its doing the same thing , the only thing that's pulling up on the tester is o2 sensor , and everyone has told me that's not gonna cause my car too not start .im confused , i changed my fuel pump and than it doing the same thing before , i changed it . i thought i got a faulty fuel pump , and went and got another one , and it wasn't that please help me out. I just want my car too run . im 1200 dollars in and my car still hasnt ran but the 40 mins after i changed my fuel pump .
Inquire lang, ang aking nissa terra 2019, kon minsan unsteady idle nya, last time umakyat sa hilly Road, nag check engine sya at nag slow down then mahina ang power, tinanggal ko battery connection at puna ardar uli, nawala ang check engine light, dinala ko sa casa outlet, pero hindi makita ang defect sa computer kasi na reset daw. Umuwi ako na wala ma diagnosed ang defect bakit nag check engine, thereafter, I observed twice na nag check engine. Gin check ko exhaust pipe at marami black carbon. Oz I have an issue with my BMW E39 525tdi / 98. I close the car with the remote control and after a few moments all 4 turn lights go wild. They stop for a few secconds and then again start. This thing goes on and on until I unlock the car. Can u help me pls?
Hello there, how can I adjust a throttle body on a nissan altima 2003 2.5 L? my nissan starts funny, the acceleration increases on its own when I put it on park... Not only that, sometimes starts right up but most of the time won't start at all specially after I drive it for long hours... The problem is that my car on cold start works great then for a while it begans to shake loose power it accelerates by itself and my gas pedal doesn't work at all ! A friend has a Murano, not sure what year model. She's been having trouble with the MAF sensor. Gone through 3 of them in 6 weeks. She has no idea why those keep failing. I know she's taken it to the dealer & they replaced the sensor. Any advice?

So the engine light has to be on for you to find this code with the mass air flow sensor bc I don't feel that my air conditioner is cold maybe needs it could just need Freon but I just found this video so I was just asking does the engine light have to be on or can I just clean the sensor maybe my air conditioner will blow colder I haven't even purchase yet but if I do

Good video. One error. Never use carb cleaner on MAF. ONLY MAF CLEANER.

I have a question i had an issue with my maf sensor.. i didn't know this trick but i changed it myself.. i still get the check engine and when i put it on the computer it giving me the code for the maf sensor.. any other ideas that would help. I cleared the check engine light but again when i put the chjp to the car i still get the check engine code.. even though the lights not on.
After getting an 'engine check' light on the dash of my 2015 eco-diesel (traced to a mass air flow sensor issue) I was able to clear the light simply by changing the air filter. I found a mouse nest build-up on the intake side of the filter and after vacumming the filter unit completely and changing the filter, the light cleared itself after about 5 miles of driving. Try this 1st - it costs little to nothing and should be done anyway.

How you doing I got a 2004 Nissan maxima it was doing the same thing.. I unplugged the mass air flow sensor the car drove good.. Then once I got home I plugged it back up the car didn't cut off.. So do you think that's my problem and should I still clean it to see what happens or replace it.
+mrxclusive803 you would need a scan tool to see the reading on the MAF but without one be very careful and clean it out and wait 30 min after cleaning and try it
