    You don’t see this type of issue in other soccer leagues because only American leagues have a salary cap. But I think penalties under violations of “financial fair play rules” are similar, and I cannot recall a team ever being docked points over it. I think the typical penalty is loss of revenue, but then again you almost never see such penalties assessed contemporaneously with the violation.

    My primary concern is the point deduction. There are so many things you can do to a club that do not take away from the effort and sacrifice of the players. I would welcome some input from people who have followed soccer/football longer than I have, including penalties imposed in other leagues.

      I think it’s the strongest way to discipline. Fans and team members will be mad at management for causing this and buy less merch and go to fewer games which hurt their bottom line.

    The salary cap is already ridiculously low and even the CBA schedule of increases moves it up too slowly. I guess we have to adopt the tactics of college football and set up booster groups that can funnel money to these amazing yet underpaid players.
