This also made me reflect on the visa topic, since luckily I have the second best passport in the world and I never had any problem with travel. Heck, I can even go to Turkey without passport
Yes, for countries like ours (Italy, Singapore, etc.), we practically never have to even think of issues like this. It's as easy as just booking the plane ticket and that's it. Sometimes I catch myself with that kinda mindset too, thinking "why doesn't XXX person just show up and pull if they're so strong?" Sadly, for a big part of the world, a trip overseas to compete is a huge luxury and practically a dream for them. And even then, because of visa issues, they might not even get the chance.
It is a tragedy what you and your team have to experience and my heart truly goes out to you guys. We can only hope that as the sport grows, things like this become easier to deal with.
Pretty hard to get approved visa for these reasons without Government support. Ph pro gamers get denied all the time but gets help from some high officials stepping up. This is the first real international invite (outside asia) for armwrestling and maybe they will take this on account the nextime they organize one. If only PH recognizes armwrestling more, for sure we will get approved next time.
I wonder if Engin has any influence at all in this matter. As I understood he is receiving money from the government because of his association with WAF and him being the president of the turkish armwrestling team.
Unfortunately, it seems that this is out of his control. Just like how I could not organize the EvW Qualifiers in Singapore, it was not within his ability to influence the powers that be.
@@LagiaArm in the sense that he is receiving grants from the government concerning hosting a prestigious sports event in his country. Perhaps the government visa administrative people could keep this in mind when processing visa applications. I know that this happens in eSports. There are possibilities to get priority and a faster visa.
Turkish side has not given a definitive answer. Most likely due to socio-political-economic reasons. Mike Ford was the only Asian athlete who was allowed entry and that’s because he is from Malaysia. Every Filipino was denied entry.
@@EastsideArmWrestling If that is true, they are blacklisting an entire country. That sounds horrible since the fans really want to find out who is the best in the world in each category. Maybe the finals should be held in a neutral venue in the future.
@@EastsideArmWrestling Bro, only reason why Mike Ford got through is because he holds a British passport which does not require visa. You get stamped on arrival. He probably would have been on the same boat as us, otherwise... sadge.

Yeah, this is really a systemic issue that has to be addressed by those in power.
Really sad to see opportunities being missed like this.

I thinks this was just a visa issue not really about armwrestling
Influence in what sense?

@@EastsideArmWrestling I remember similar stuff happening to Russian athletes (maybe still)
What happens if you go on tourist visa and pull
I don’t think it was the type of visa that mattered
Do you even know the exact reason why the visa was denied? So next time you can get it resolved.
