- Hello everyone!
I didn't have much time to detect lately, so decided to upload a video about HOW to age your WW2 German helmet!
In this video i will show you how to make your helmet look like a real used combat helmet!
I will explain things like, how to add chicken wire, how to spray paint, and how to make it look worn!
For this video i bought 2 brand new German reproduction helmets that we can use!
You like reenacting? then this video can be useful!
It's a lot of work, but fun to do, so if you are bored.. you have something to do now!
There are a lot of different ways to age helmets, but this is the way i like to do it!
Do they look like real Normandy helmets, do you like them?
I hope you enjoy this video!! :D

Little did @History Secrets know that like a few months later, he would find a dump just like that, but with more helmets.

@historySecrets can i do this with with an m42 model?
My friend had a genuine German helmet his grandfather brought home from the war. It was the standard field gray with a diagonal tri-color shield decal on the side. We use to play with it, but carefully. Even as kids we knew it was something special and cool. We were a lot rougher on the ARVN and tiger-stripe ranger uniforms my uncle brought home from Nam, although we never put on the black VC ‘pajamas’ he also brought home.
Hans wants his helmet painted too.
So does Frïtz ;)
Also Rudi
don't forget Otto
Johann as well * wait i already painted mine* nevermind
Yannick Oliveres haha I get that :)

Guys, this guy might have forgotten to or has done it a lot but if this is your first time doing this. Get some hardware gloves because the chicken wire will stab you a lot.
I learned that the hard way. Sliced my knee didn't even notice it until I knelt down on the ground to put on the wire and saw the blood. And my fingers are pretty bloodied from grabbing the helmet.
Ok thanks man for the tip
I learned that the hard way but I still don’t wear gloves for a chicken wire como net
I used rusted wire from one of my old coops. Luckily I already have tetanus shots
I had to learn the hard way and I got everything cur up
Hey, at least skins are free during ww2
German History why did you reply this to an unrelated comment
German History oh ok 👌
Himagotin
German History yeah he fucking does he gets hate for starving his people and telling his men to kill themselves instead off becoming prisoners when he son became a prisoner by the Germans he said he was no longer his son
The reason he told them to kill themselves instead of getting in prison was so they did not get tortured by the nazi's. Not only Stalin told their soilders to kill themselves if they got cought. Norway did the same. (Sorry if i have bad grammar
Hey dude I love your channel and actually have started to collect some old ww2 gear keep at what you’re doing
0:04 tour de france
LOL
But with Nazi soldiers gunning down Allied troops during WW2 on D-Day
TwizzleWizzle Germany was only at war with the USA because of Japan the US didn’t care if Germany took Europe in ww2 they were gonna stay out of it but a dumb fucking admiral decided to fucking wake the sleeping giant while at war with China so China and the USA together 2 big country‘s together+ earlier war with Russia overwhelmed japan and they knew it would happen Italy abandon Germany and Finland wouldn’t fight and advance into Russia with Germany so Germany was stranded with small country’s that had barley and army let alone navy Air Force and there
is Canada,USA and Britain and other smaller country’s all kicking Germany in the ass while Russia decided to try a wall in the middle of fucking Berlin like wtf do you know what kind of economic status Germany would be at when that fell Germany in modern times is still struggling to re build the military to power because of that wall and Germany is now part of nato so they know to avoid world wars and + the other side of the iron curtain is just a bunch of Marxist commie bastards people we can all agree to hate the fuck out of
@@tigerpresentationsproducts425 jeez buddy calm down didn’t have to write an essay just because someone made a joke.
I've watched this video millions of time a day and I love it so much.
Thank you for making this video, I just painted my repro m35 and I used rustoleum camo paints. It turned out pretty good.
unfortunately, WW1 German helmet camo patterns were much more complex, it took sooo long. But thanks for the weathering Techniques!
Love your videos! Very informative and entertaining!!
This is one of my favorite videos by you thank you so much for the knowledge you’ve given me
This would've been helpful in 1943
And, In 1918
Back then they didn't need to age a helmet. They just ran into battle.
Sergej Gajič um no, the war ended that year

@@lillejuensen8084 the war ended on November the 11th alot of men died too that year.
Wow, this is a serious art! Thanks for taking time out of your day to show us!
I also have a question. Would you be willing to show us how to make the German bread bags worn ?
Thank you so much!
I use similar techniques when restoring relic helmets. Use a lot of rust and rust powder leftovers from relic stuff. I also use a lot of normal soil and mud or dry clay powder or chunks or even wet clay or combination of all above to make look it more realistic . I also use stuff like old used and burnt vegetable oil. All the above used in many different ways make restoration on original helmets invisible and It usually kills or neutralise any chemical smells. Ps. Try bath helmet in heavy thick dirt mud ( rub it outside and inside ) it can give extra natural heavy combat look. After bath let it dry completely and then wipe dry leftovers of dry sand .Also when i make scratches i use more different mediums for scratches . Also places of exposed metal around the rim and on scratches i cover in acid gel for few hours and then wash it off as its look rusty after and not as shiny . Great video by the way.
I love this video just so satisfying!
At first I thought you put some kind of fake blood camaflauge on your hands then I relized it wasn't fake blood
This is going to work perfectly as placeholders on my helmet and probably my gas mask tin too
Just discovered HS in 2020, but it is already one of my favorite YT channels. Keep em coming boys!

When it comes to aging the liner I take it out completely and wash and scrub it with washing detergent. It helps get rid of that awful 'new' smell and when it dries it looks and smells a lot better. I use a household iron and iron the leather which turns it darker and helps give it a cracked and worn appearance. I iron the leather around the liner rim too which makes it look like it's been well worn.
I just love the Stahlhelm! Such a lovely concept and design. I wish i had one, but as i can't afford one, i make mine with cardboard, although they aren't as resistible and customizable as the originals.

Hello History Secrets, great video! I was wondering if you could possibly make another video, relating to how to make the German "Sniper Veils" often seen (used in the movie Fury at the end by a German Sniper) or where it may be possible to get one? Thanks!
Btw congrats on 170k subs well done 👍
Really interesting! Well done! 👍
Very, Very cool... You gotta do the Brodie Helmets next... You earned a sub!
That would be very cool!
He hasn’t done it yet :p
q5gbi7kw2 * bullshit
And Soviet helmets as well.
Amazing video my friend, just wondering because I’m a kid with a low budget for things like this but do have some stalhelms how much was the paint?. As I said before, bravo on your amazing work
I would stick with the German names for paint. Especially Feldgrau and the other thing in German he said
Thank you for making this it was very helpful
Thanks for doing this, im following your directions and doing the ghost chicken wire to one of my own.
The fallschirmjäger helmet is my favorite
Fallschirmjager m38's always appealed to me but they are a bit meh at the same time
There so nice
You are just awesome. I love your videos. I'm from Germany and I love how you like the history and the things from the second world War. More from things like this.
Jeremy☺️😎
Very good, as usual, young man.
i bought a replica one for my birthday, will be arriving soon.
thanks for the camo tip btw

I just did the same thing on my UA-cam channel and I made a video about my helmet and it looks amazing
Great video, thanks for all the tip! They looked really used.
Thanks, glad you like it! :)
Thank you history secrets. I am going to use your tips for my helmet
AS AN ARTIST I GOT TO GIVE YOU BIG LIKE, YOU ARE VERY CREATIVE, I AGED MY DAK CAMO HELMET( FINISH ARMY SHELL )LONG AGO SAME WAY, GOOD JOB! THANKS FOR VIDEO!
Thank you so much, nice to hear!! :)
imagine me.. in the middle of germany..spray painting a Wehrmacht Helmet.. Love your work tho
He should take a look at the Finnish M40-55 Helmets from IMA.
Ja! I have 2 of them and changed the liners add some dunkel grau paint and SS decals it's ready to be "aged"!
@@theodorebennett7938 wait a minute it didn’t have a hole?
Awesome video! Your helmets look amazing😃
Thank you so much!! :D
You have altogether too much fun! Makes me want to come and play, too! :-) Seriously, though, great tutorial about the camouflaging. Most of the "aged" helmets I've seen look very fake, but yours do look good. Great video, Nick!
Haha, yes throwing helmets around is a pretty funny thing to do indeed! :D
Thank you so much for your nice comment!! :)

For One Of The Afrika Korps Helments Put A Luftwaffe Synbol On One So It COuld Be Luftwaffe Afrika
Can you do one of these with British helmets please?
top video! erg mooi resultaat :)
Nice really liked it now I know how to put chiken wire and camo on it thanks nick
Ooh artillery *drops small rock*
Just imagine him accidentally picking up the an original and doing what he does with the replicas
He can't do it accidentally, if he picks original he will notice in 2 secs and leave original. Originals and repros are very different :)
Amazing work
Nice vids man keep up the good work an love what u do
Thank yuou very much! :D
Me with a Stalhelm at 15:02
Hey look at that a brick wall!
*bangs helmet*
Whoops!
For context: I have 2 stahlhelms and I am very careful with my original, the repro I made look like a black SS helmet and scratched it as if it tried to protect Berlin
In the intro one of them were my granddad but he died
Which one
Super great video and i think that the Camouflage is super cool
Thank you so much! :D
I love your little stories lol
15:49 well you found one😀
Indeed! :D
Next time when working in the garden, I'll put on my stahlhelm.
old neighbours might get a fright lol
@@jakobengelmann1262 "911, whats your emergency?"
"Yeah my neighboor is walking his dog with a nazi helmet"
Wear it one summer day and you have a similar example.
i really like your videos they are the best
Great video. A good way to discolour the chord and liner is to handel it with dirty/sweaty hands (from working in the garden etc).
14:38 or you can put on the helmet and go for a 3KM run like me.
Great idea! :)
Or low crawl for 3km
👌
0:30 how do you do that?
I am not to share BUT I just looked at some photos and did a thing with mine
The germans also used saw dust to flatten the paint scheme when it got wet.use the helmet as they did. Guys would also sit on and in there helmets. If your think of doing anything with decals apply the decals to the helmet while the paint is still tacky 5mm below the helmet riveta once it drys the decal will.not come off.And finally use European farm wire which comes in 3,4 and 5 twistes.but great job and keep up the good work!
Did this on my restored finnish m40/55 and it looks so much better, thanks
American accented English but perfect sounding German? Confused. Com
He's Dutch
Haha, i understand why that's confusing! :)
dig the helmet for a week in the garden
Very nice! I'll have to try that soon. I just finished restoring a 1917 with a camo pattern. I hand painted it, I just need to tone the paint a bit.
Nice collection! and informative view!
Thank you very much my friend!! :)
He got wounded on his hands by a duplicate modern Nazi era helmet.
Anil Borbarua I guess you can’t take the nazi out of the helmet after all?
Yeah the ss were Nazis bro
Good way to promote dishonesty! A real collector will know! Look out ebayers!
I'm against selling fake stuff, this video is for reenactors.
Of course, people will also do this and try to sell helmets as original.. but i can't stop that.. people have to watch out and ask for advice before buying a WW2 helmet.
Gr Nick
Such an awesome helmet, I asked for one and today it arrived
it's so heavy lmao, but beautiful at the same time
I love your videos and this video helped me to make my German helmet look real but I did it to my replica
Nice video Nick!👍👍
Thank you! :D
Hey my friend!
Yes we are back here ok UA-cam 😂

Very good job, i like it!
Thank you very much! :)
Great ageing efforts wd40 shoe polish totally amazing 👍👍👍👍👍 going to do my repro british para helmet tomorrow
Very nicely done
Tres beau travail de montage, les videos de debut sont superbes......
lol, nice vid mate
Awesome!
That was really cool, your work and effort paid off! Im gonna ask my parents if I can buy a helmet that I’ve had my eye on for a long time. I’ll try to make it look like yours, but I don’t know if that’s possible....🙃
The gun oil you used on the liner was banded from the Canadian armouries because they said it was non toxic and it was bs so the military stopped using it I would suggest using neats foot oil for the liner as it’s more natural and will darken the leather well as for the paint to use fine saw dust and aluminum oxide and add a dusting every so often the As you put a coat of paint on you brush the dusting off and repeat also for faking damage very well done but I would also us a set of random keys to bang it up with very well done
Thanks you for this tuto
I’m just starting German reacting and this was help full
Awesome, glad i could help! :)
Ik ook ze zijn zo mooi en gewoon prachtig=D
I'm a big fan of your channel I watched this before I worked on mine and I used sand to give it texture I put chicken wire on it too
That's awesome to hear, thanks! :)
“I must say...DAMN good stuff, Sir”
i forgot abt ur channel and then i finally got myself a m40 and want to age it but then i remembered this video
This video was amazing! Are there any other patterns you know how to do?
Nice video!! I would very much like to see your visor caps. If you could talk about it, what you know and stuffs... I'll appreciate it :)
nice video, really makes me jealous. I would like to have 1 original WW2 helmet and you have a whole collection lol. keep up the good work can't wait for your next post
Thank you very much!! :D
I'm sure you will have a very nice original German helmet some day!
Don't smoke, don't drink, save money and spend it wisely! :)
Gr Nick
Allen Higginbotham I can tell you how to get an original Finland contract helmet for 50 bucks or so.
Go to IMA USA .com and look for the finnish M40/55.
They were made off the same machinery in Germany same as the ww2 era Helmets and they are cheap.
I own one, it’s awesome!
Original ww2? These are fine reenactment helmets. Not intended for the militaria collector.
fridolo well technically they weren’t intended for re-enactment either, but instead for real combat😂 but it’s intended nowadays for either a: collecting or keeping, or b: selling, and unfortunately most people chose b nowadays. But yeah it is intended for multiple reasons
Hey, can i use a diffrent color than feldgrau that still looks like it? I can only find panzer gray and battleship grey from a danish site.
Cool , Wonderful Video, I like it .
Thank you very much!
I love the video
Good job
Great video!
Thanks! :)
