Using a tool to check plagiarism and a tool to check whether the output is AI are two COMPLETELY different things. most, if not all, AI output will be close to 100% plagiarism free because it's not just copied from somewhere. For some reason, many people think AI tools scrape the web and copy text already out there, but they do not. (probably because many older "AI tools" would do just that, scrape the web and copy text and possibly spin it. they weren't AI tools like we think of with ChatGPT now.) In the simplest terms, checking to see if the text is from an AI generator is just a tool to check patterns to see if it's possibly AI-generated. If you take text generated from an AI tool and you just put some extra spaces in it (as in change "my dog, Spot" to "my dog , Spot") by putting a space before the comma, and then do that a handful of times throughout the article it will be detected as close to 100% human written. That's how fragile the AI detection tools are.

one thing I've noticed while using Grammarly to check for plagiarism on an AI-written piece is that it will take 4 or 5 words from a sentence and match it to something else found on the web, or if chatgpt defines something in the piece it will also say that the definition is plagiarized. you really do have to go through Grammarly instance by instance to double-check if it actually is or if it's a false positive.

Plagiarism is a serious matter that affects the academic world and beyond. It is defined as the act of taking somebody else's work, ideas, or words and presenting them as one's own without proper attribution. Plagiarism is considered unethical and can lead to serious consequences, including failing grades, suspension, or even expulsion from academic institutions. In this essay, I will explore the different types of plagiarism, its consequences, and how to avoid it.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 Plagiarism involves presenting someone else's work as your own, distinct from copyright infringement. It can harm your academic/professional standing.
01:10 Use plagiarism checkers like Grammarly and Turnitin to scan for similarities in texts, helping you avoid unintentional plagiarism.
02:50 Different checkers yield varying results. Grammarly shows 24% similarity, indicating potential matches in web or academic sources.
03:29 Acceptable plagiarism levels vary; below 10% is generally acceptable, over 25% is considered high. Aim for 0% similarity for the safest bet.
04:12 Techniques to reduce plagiarism include citing sources, adding specific details to prompts, and manually rephrasing plagiarized text.

I don't think you understand the idea of plagiarism. You say that it is when you pass off writing that isn't yours as your own and that it can have negative consequences. But then you show how it's okay to pass off AI writing as your own as long as it is not detectable. This is still plagiarism. But I guess you're right if you don't have any integrity - you'll need to look that one up.

Is the person speaking an AI?

  • @dmt02459
    @dmt02459 Рік тому +4

Yes. It is plagiarism. The concern with plagiarism in academia is that it is unethical for the student to receive credit for work that they physically did not do; plagiarism is a violation of academic integrity. If a student is turning in an AI (or language-model) generated paper, they are turning in a plagiarized paper even if the paper itself contains no plagiarism. In academia, there is no tolerance for plagiarism, so do not be comforted by this presenter's cavalier attitude.
Plagiarism, in academia, is a sanctionable offense. At most institutions of higher learning, a student that intentionally turns in work that is not their own, in whole or in part, could receive a reduced grade or an F on the exam or paper, have to retake the exam or redo the paper, and/or receive an F for the class.
TO STUDENTS: If you want to avoid plagiarism, do your own work. If you do not know what to do, ask your instructor and/or use the writing center or academic success center at your school. If you are working on a research paper, make sure you credit the sources of every bit of information that you summarize, quote, or paraphrase from you sources, and you will be okay.

Tools are meant to be used man, but as anyone who did well in their academics would know, you get what you put into your own learning. for me I would write out my own statements to chat of what I know, personal view, and other fact checks and ask it to write me something based off a style I want... and doing this your still building your own paper using your own words and thoughts, you just get the added advantage of saving time. mundane and time consuming task such as this need to be shortened so we can better use our time. thats my opinion on it.

    • @micspaffymillard719

      Dear T. Alexander Giltner,
I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to address a concern that I have been noticing in your recent youtube conversations. It appears that you have been struggling to adapt to the rapidly changing world around us, particularly in terms of science and technology.
As someone who values the importance of staying informed and up-to-date with scientific advancements, I find it concerning that you seem to be ignoring or rejecting new information simply because it challenges your existing beliefs. I believe you are being very ignorant and stubborn. Maybe, you should throw out your calculator while you are at it.
I understand that change can be difficult, but it is important to recognize that the world we live in is constantly evolving, and our understanding of the world is constantly being refined through scientific discovery. Ignoring these advancements and sticking to outdated beliefs can have serious consequences, both for ourselves and for society as a whole.
I urge you to take the time to explore new scientific ideas and to keep an open mind to the possibility that your current beliefs may need to be updated or revised based on new evidence. While it may be uncomfortable to confront new ideas that challenge our preconceived notions, it is ultimately the only way we can grow and progress as individuals and as a society.
I value our understanding and hope that we can continue to have open and honest conversations about these important issues.
      Sincerely,
      Mic Spaffy Millard,
