Most of them ended up in Siberia and only were let go in 1953 and 1955. The Western allies in contrast allowed former Nazis back into the post war government and the German military.
@@danwelterweight4137 That's not what I said. I said SOVIET prisoners were murdered by the Germans, I didn't talk about the German POW fate on Soviet hands, which was also appalling, but at least understandable given the nature of the murderous aggression they suffered. As for the Allies keeping ex-Nazis in military positions, this is largely a non-issue to me. Although unfortunate towards the Jews, Soviet victims and others, it was a necessity to have former officers who understood the Soviet adversary, which let us not forget, was an utterly ruthless and criminal regime, particularly until the death of Stalin (although granted, less so than Nazi Germany). Now if the Allied authorities had kept on allowing them to kill Jews or commit horrific crimes that would be a different story. But they didn't. They swept this under the rug, and that was it. It was merely a miscarriage of justice, like so many others in history.
@@nonomnismoriar9051 German POWs were 10x better treated by the Soviets than the Germans treated Soviet prisoners. That is very true. @@danwelterweight4137that's not true most ended up in Siberia. Most ended up being freed pretty quickly. And honestly given the conditions the POWs faced, I don't see suspicion as being irrational, although it was tragic. Like if you heard about the conditions POWs faced, you end up faced with a question: "how did YOU survive?" Like I can't blame people for thinking there was a high possibility that these people survived by selling out their comrades and selling out their motherland. Such a suspicion given the starvation faced is sorta reasonable. I do think it was a mistake but everyone else realized this too and the majority of people who ended up detained or imprisoned were released very quickly.
It is strange to talk about WWII as if it began in 1941. Germany and the Soviet Union committed illegal aggression in 1939, when they invaded Poland and the Baltic countries. For this reason, both the Wehrmacht and the Red Army were criminal organizations, and both Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union--allies in starting WWII in 1939--were criminal regimes that engaged in the mass murder of civilians.
BOTH Nazis and communists starved their war prisoners to death, the Nazis in "prisoners camps" and the Stalinists in the Gulag. Just after they had worked together to erase Poland, Ukraine, etc.
My experience was different. My Jewish dad was captured and murdered by the Wehrmacht, in the Western Desert, Egypt. He was fighting for the British (in the Tank Corps) who literally forced Jewish soldiers to wear the Star of David on their dog tags, even though the Brits knew - from USA intelligence - that “Berlin in Arabic” radio was broadcasting 24/7 to the Middle East to “Kill the Jews.” Broadcasting, because most Arabs at that stage were illiterate. Dropping pamphlets would’ve been useless. So, my experience is that, in addition to rounding up Jews to be shot or deported and eventually gassed, the Wehrmacht were murdering Jews whenever they had the chance. And in Ukraine they did even more than that, with local collaborators. Of course, the Arabs - obeying the mandate from Germany - were killing Jews too, and had been doing so for very many years prior to WWII.
It is to me that anyone or group or establishment fighting to a degree as the German Nazi's did, ppl who were defenseless is a sign of mental weakness. Its proof that when the war came on and they had equal enemies they lost! Without their so called allies by defeat, they were always weak! It was all narcissistic talk, but put to test, they were proven wrong. When I saw the bombing of Germany, I felt no compassion. Even the stories that followed. They got what they deserved. Utterly humiliated. Their big mouth leader took the easy way out. The rest ran off to South America, weak! They did not make a stand for the courage of their conviction. They were just murdering criminals, all of them. They are prisoners of their own grandiose sick mind that did not do anything but cause chaos and anarchy. So glad and grateful that I do not have German DNA in my blood. I would hate myself.
Let's not forget that Stalin had refused to sign the Geneva conventions, The Red Army was not bound by rules, nor protected by any, the partisans even less. These ragtag bunch of lawless brutes, after attacking the Germans from the rear, often took refuge among the peasant population, knowing that the Germans would not shoot innocent civilians. Unfortunately, for the partisans I mean, the Wehrmacht eventually had to adjust to such tactics and began shooting anyone who represented a danger for them, as the so-called infamous Kommissar order told them to do. When your survival is on the line what are you supposed to do? As to killing the Kommissars on the spot, what do you think they did when they captured German soldiers? Wrong, they tortured them horribly before killing them. Then, they hung the bodies from trees where the advancing Wehrmacht would be sure to find then, horribly mutilated, usually with their genitals stuffed in their mouth. Therefore, yes, the Wehrmacht committed horrible crimes, but that's only part of the story, leaving the rest out is not only disingenuous, it is clearly dishonest.
He idea the Communists wanted to invade Europe is a bunch of BS. That is the very reason why Stalin and Trotsky fought against each other.
