I listened to this (first song) with Jason Sears at the wall in Montecito. I heard this album before he added the lyrics. I didn’t know at the time how special that was. RIP JASON. Best punk band ever
They had me from the first note, years and years ago. Fortunate enough to have met almost all of the original lineup. My favorite punk band of all time. They're inked in my skin.
Just in case anyone’s curious the lineup is featured in this video. At the beginning jason talks about this recording so it was recorded sometime around ‘03/‘04. The lineup apparently was jason on vocals, chris rest and chris flippin on guitars, raposo on bass, and boz on drums ua-cam.com/video/87rUpud7ggU/v-deo.html
Jason told me it was the lineup from RICHES TO RAGS because he was too messed up on drugs at the time (much to his regret) so they couldn't be a part of that album. He claimed he recorded his parts later but I would ask Chris, Joe, Barry and Dave since R.K.L.'s history seems to be laced between two histories! R.I.P. Jason, Bomer and Derrick!
RKL were just amazing; fantastic musicians and great songwriting.. When I was 17, I saw them play here in Germany. It was one of the best shows in my life. "Rock'n'Roll Nightmare" was just out at that time .
Best ever! The band I roadied for all loved RKL (check out their RKL cover: ua-cam.com/video/OB92W6Tgc2E/v-deo.html)... Anyway, we met Operation Ivy when they played Las Vegas (well on a lake bed on the California/Nevada border)... we ended up setting up some shows at Gilman Street through them & even have a few songs on the What Are You Pointing At 10" comp that David Hayes put out right after leaving Lookout Records... Well, one of the times we were in SF to play Gilman, we were hanging at a park and saw a parked van decked out in RKL stickers. We waited forever to see if they'd show up so we could fan out on them... but alas it wasn't meant to be. Regardless RKL were our heroes. I vividly recall when "Rock'n'Roll Nightmare" came out...it was shocking on first listen because Keep Laughing was so iconic and the new album felt like a progressive departure... but after playing it once, we all agreed it was the greatest HC album ever. The comic book brought it all together... I still have the album. It's one I'll never sell.
joey wolfe I never got to meet them or see em play, too young. But honestly, for sure Jason went out exactly like he wanted! We know it! They lived the life they wanted and nothing stopped them and they were happy as fuck!
Hey guys i tried to write the lyrics of Twisting and Turning. It's just by ear so don't get mad and correct me if you know better! Twisting and turning and yet still i'm learning i keep holding on to this role In the dream i kept falling was calm (?) yet was crawling and this time i can't give up hope (Bridge #1) As i stated before We stand at a doorstep Come on Ask me out Take it in We've few chances left So we must be a dead end(?) No more can we wait Let's Begin! (CHORUS) It's one more time (you see) - Left for you and me Change your roles (Disguise) - Make them realise It's our time (too late)? - So come either way Straight ahead (on track) - There's no turning back Every morning when i wake up, the images of insanity are etched between my mind With pictures of scantily clad boy-bands prancing around on stage while screaming pre-pubescent teens toss their panties in the air AND IT MAKES ME WONDER IF THE WHOLE WORLD'S GONE MAD! Just then i walk out my door to see some young kid with blue hair and nose ring marching down the street defying any authority to cross his path I realize life's not (?) full circle. it's our time again! WE'RE BACK! (Bridge #2) Cause yesterday's calling so don't come out crawling It's time we got up Take a stand! This time it is strue With years overdue Wake up now Ain't worth being sad! (CHORUS) Aaaaaaaaw! We CAN'T let them win(?) Like i said let's begin, and start out by telling the truth! It's still up to us, So hop on the bus! As we take the ride - wait where are you? (?) (Bridge #2) (CHORUS)
Commented on this a couple years ago still same sentaments we've had live in a dive since then and it's great still hoping for this to be released peace and love lloydy
Sa these guys in '85 on the Keep Laughing tour (Kansas City). I was just a wide eyed punk kid then. They were amazing then and only got more so. Was sad to hear about Jason's struggles and finally his passing. Thanks for posting this.
On their FB: Some of the drums were played by Dave Raun and some by Boz Rivera. Guitars were Barry Ward and Chris Rest. Bass was all Joe Raposo and vocals by Jason Sears and Todd Roll. (Backups)
When the f is this masterpiece gonna get official release love it its abkut time we realise it really does deserve a turn come on fat Mike if anyone can make it happen is u.peace and love lloydy
This band with jasons stage tallent and hus art with his words to music and jason always had somthing to say. To this day sit back and listen or skate to it too. so true even the illicit shit pases through big farmer thats how it's made if iwas aloud to make my own tiki and was social y excepted i believe we all would nt have to of banged in so many door nails miss them all o and what a coincidence the rockerfellas vaccinated half the world 10 years ago and we now have a culing of population with covide right up there with their open a gender Jason was a victim of policy mackers heroin kills people cus they got to hid sometimes when they use and there alone i no he died from the detox he did but the same pressure from policy makers as there sipping on there 50 year old scotch rkl rules peace and love lloydy
Sorry to the contrary information but this sounds like Derrick Plourde on drums and the PRB show they did in February 2001 had Plourde on drums so he'd make more sense if this is really 2000/2001. Incredible lineups they've had over the years.
yes in those years Derrick was on drums, Leon and Chris Flip on guitars, Bomer played bass and Jason as singer. Either Lil Joe and Boz replaced Derrick and Bomer in 2002.
Umbrabell Artistry nah i think it’s boz rivera on drums i don’t think derrick ever recorded anything with them although he did play sporadic shows with them over the course of a couple years
fully agree every line up well for me my favorite band well u no top 3 even the blues one radioactive i think it's called will miss anything new and cherish everything given peace and love lloydy
'Greatest Hits - Live in West Berlin' has way better Drums and Bass work than 'Rags to Riches'. 'Rock N' Roll Nightmare' is there Best studio album. It has the best Bass and Drum work, imo. 😉

pabloquincecinco i’m not positive but i remember reading somewhere that they didn’t start recording anything until boz replaced derrick so that means its raposo on bass. I’m pegging this around ‘02-‘04

Forever my favorite band. Musically leaving everyone in the dust....just shredding. Add Jason on the MIC and magic was happening.
Whoa! Please let this get an official release.
I just performed 11 RKL song guitar covers in a vid 🎸🤘

Hey guys i tried to write the lyrics of Twisting and Turning. It's just by ear so don't get mad and correct me if you know better!
Twisting and turning and
yet still i'm learning
i keep holding on to this role
In the dream i kept falling
was calm (?) yet was crawling
and this time i can't give up hope
(Bridge #1)
As i stated before
We stand at a doorstep
Come on Ask me out
Take it in
We've few chances left
So we must be a dead end(?)
No more can we wait
Let's Begin!
(CHORUS)
It's one more time (you see) -
Left for you and me
Change your roles (Disguise) -
Make them realise
It's our time (too late)? -
So come either way
Straight ahead (on track) -
There's no turning back
Every morning when i wake up, the images of insanity are etched between my mind
With pictures of scantily clad boy-bands prancing around on stage
while screaming pre-pubescent teens toss their panties in the air
AND IT MAKES ME WONDER IF THE WHOLE WORLD'S GONE MAD!
Just then i walk out my door to see some young kid with blue hair and nose ring
marching down the street defying any authority to cross his path
I realize life's not (?) full circle.
it's our time again!
WE'RE BACK!
(Bridge #2)
Cause yesterday's calling
so don't come out crawling
It's time we got up
Take a stand!
This time it is strue
With years overdue
Wake up now
Ain't worth being sad!
(CHORUS)
Aaaaaaaaw!
We CAN'T let them win(?)
Like i said let's begin,
and start out by telling the truth!
It's still up to us,
So hop on the bus!
As we take the ride - wait where are you? (?)

Why does nobody release this on vinyl? Shut up and take my money!
Prozac is such a great song
aguante RKL el mejor punk hc
pabloquincecinco aguante
It's a good album but falls shot of the epic classic Riches to Rags. The bass on that album is out of this world!
Falls short, sorry.
'Greatest Hits - Live in West Berlin' has way better Drums and Bass work than 'Rags to Riches'. 'Rock N' Roll Nightmare' is there Best studio album. It has the best Bass and Drum work, imo. 😉

@@ilkech89 This, completely.
Thank you 🤘
Some discussing about the line up in this demo but it sounds like different drums and different bass in some songs. Also different production.
Give us this on vinyl!!!!!!
punk done
🙌🏽💯💯💯💯🐍
Fucking great, such a pity great bands like this died and Justin Bieber came in.
What year was this recorded? thanks
It’s believed to be either
1995 (Riches to rags line up)
2000 (With Derrick)
2004 (with Boz)
Seems more like boz to me
Holy shit what year is this?
Is that Jason singing all parts in Prozac?
sorry but what was the line up at that time? it was bomer on bass and derrick plourde on drums? or raposo on bass and dave raun on drums?
pabloquincecinco i’m not positive but i remember reading somewhere that they didn’t start recording anything until boz replaced derrick so that means its raposo on bass. I’m pegging this around ‘02-‘04
He sounds like GG on the slow parts.
what year was this recorded?
So who owns the music? Epitaph?
Apparently, Epitaph sold their publishing rights to Warner without RKL's knowledge, but Fat still puts out remastered live shows, like the most recent Live In A Dive.
I just realized Limp Bizkit ripped off the last song on this album
Yeah, it's called "kookie" like "nookie" and it sounds like "counterfeit", but I'm not sure wich one is older. Most of these songs are from riches to rags era, but I think this one is with Derrick on drums... and I'm sure fred durst doesn't even know RKL
