- "Doledrums", The Chills third 7" single, was recorded by Phil Yule and Doug Hood at Mascot Studios, Auckland, over two separate sessions in both July and September 1984 and was subsequently released in late 1984. This rarely seen video, which was first screened on Radio With Pictures on December 9, 1984, is, unlike The Great Unwashed's "Neck of the Woods" video and The Gordons' "Adults and Children", perhaps not one of the strongest video clips the T.V.N.Z. studios could have come up with. As Martin Phillipps commented in issue one of Dunedin fanzine Garage Magazine, "Just as some of our original fans are turning against us, Television New Zealand try and turn us into rock stars!'. He then went on to say that the band were "disgusted" with the result.
The Chills line up at this point in time was Martin Phillipps (guitars / vocals), Martin Kean (bass / vocals), Peter Allison (keyboards / vocals), and Alan Haig (drums).
MY GOD THEY ARE GENIUS . ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
THE BENEFITS ARRIVE AND LIFE GOES ON
The benefits arrive and life goes on
on and on and on
The Chills have done some great songs down the years... this has to be my favourite though, more than "Heavenly Pop Hit." Though "Heavenly Pop Hit" is amazing also.
My two and a half year old daughter can sing this entire song and knows the lyrics, so that solidified my opinion that this is the best Chills pop song. I already loved it, but it’s even better being able to sing it with her.
I could've been on the dole
