I always thought removing tint was harder than installing it, but these guys did an excellent job and the new tint looks great! Glad you were able to fix some of the other issues on Hippo as well.
A grand day out for Hippo Matt. Those tints look great, far better than the poo stains that were on before. A tow bar is always a handy add on even if they get little use it's a plus come selling time on a 4x4. As for the prop shaft bearing I think I'd seriously consider getting that done as you say you get a warranty for the work. A very productive day in all. Thanks for sharing Matt.
Hi Matt a great video as ever and great to see Hippo getting some love! I’ve always admired the freelander my uncle used to bring factory demos home and they were so different to anything at the time Land Rover made I remember hippo well because the man you had him off lives behind my brother on the same estate in North Yorkshire! I used to see hippo then Quentin when I went to my brothers house so a small world!! Glad to see he is used and enjoyed! All the best Daniel
The tinting is very cool (no pun intended). The Freelander was already a cool car and looks super cool now. Well worth doing. These cars looks just dont age.
Hippo does look smarter with the changes. 1 small improvement i'd suggest is a rubber hitch boot (~£5) rather than that hard plastic cup. Much better at keeping the whole hitch and ball clean if you're going to be getting it wet n muddy, also slightly more gentle on your shins if you catch yourself 😊. Happy Towing - welcome to the club.
I work for Landrover and I used to work on the freelander production line .I got to go round the Landrover jungle test track in one you wouldn't believe what they can do off road unbelievable the only part it couldn't go was the deep wade track because of the depth of the water only the defender could do at the time great car great video😊
They are so much more capable than people expect - Ive been around an off road course in one where 'real' 4x4s got stuck and the Freelander just kept going!
That was well worth doing Matt looks so good and the towbar smart choice as for the couplings grinding I think the rover specialist sounds the way to go sir best regards Andy Allen
Being serious for once Matt , that tint is amazing especially on the windscreen and you can see why has to be done by a professional guy , so impressive 👍🏻
Heya Matt - you missed a golden opportunity to remove & relocate the transposed wiper arms on Hippo whilst you were having the tint applied to your windscreen - time to whip out your trusty socket set and rectify the issue before driving in any rainy or snowy weather conditions - it's also the perfect time to replace all 3 of your wiper blades as well...
once again , i say an old Freelander is an essential bit of kit for any classic car enthusiast .. you can collect parts & throw them in the back ( remember the rear seats double fold so you get a lot of space ) .. and you can tow new projects home or to a specialist as needed
Well Matt, You and i both know that it's not a gimmie that the bearing you are using to replace the dud wan is also good. Loving the tinting and the obligatory tow bar. Later 😂
A tow bar is so handy well l have a tow bar on my Hilux never used it but it was fitted when the Hilux was brand new and it's a genuine Toyota accessory well there is a decal that reads that
Nice you are getting some extra freebies now you're a big UA-cam superstar! Matt from High Peak Autos got a holiday in Bahamas and the US with some car-related videos thrown in for important tax deductibility reasons. Come on, Hippo in Tahiti!
Shame there was not a detachable version of the towbar available as your shins would have thanked you. That tint is a really good visual improvement and the guy doing it was a quiet master craftsman, nothing worse than working with an audience vetting your every move. Still have my old FL1 propshaft stored in the garden. Took it off as the rear drive transmission failed at 250k miles and the car limped on for another 50k before dying.
You may have been illegal before Matt 😄 Like most modern cars, those front side windows were already a 75% LTF from factory, so the brown poo film almost certainly put it over the limit. It's something missed by many people who think they can add another 70% LTF to the front sides.
The only problem with tinted windows even if legal is if a Police Officer can't easily see who or what is in the vehicle is more likely to pull it over, a friendly traffic officer told me that. They also make the interior very dark on our normal overcast days. The UV protection all round would be my choice with a slight tint maybe. Not the towing capacity of a Land or Range Rover of 4.5 tonnes gross trailer weight with a braked trailer. Towing a heavy trailer up a hill in a 2 1/4 in low range if steep one could walk faster. My 2.6 station wagon wasn't much better at a medium jog. That 6cyl. sounded great though.
@@furiousdriving Yes that was back when those with a dodgy profession had started to use BMW's and the jam sandwich that pulled you was an SD1. More polite times was even earlier when the crims used Jags and the police attempting to keep up with a black Wolesley with a bell. They had a shock in Yorkshire when the TD got Daimler SP250's. Who'd have thunk it, being chased by two coppers squeezed into a sports car!
My 2003 Face Lift 2 litre diesel Freelander is now scrap, completely rusted. It's only done 90K and one owner from new (me). 😭 It is a pity as I have alot of Genuine Land Rover accessories on it from new. Waterproof seat covers. Back rear window grill. Towbar with both types of socket. Load luggage liner. Side steps. Light bash bars front and rear. Wind draft deflectors. etc.
Only ever fit Genuine or GKN bearings on the IRD anything else is a waste of time and money. Also you can fit them with the IRD still on the car, I did one last week.
Modern Mini or current modern Mini which is now the size of a Challenger 2/3 depending on how current you want to be. What’s going on with this size race?in 50 years an average SUV will be the size of a Star Destroyer (nerd alert)
So you can get rid of the costly posh Merc, you claim you need for work and use Hippo and the Rover 75 as back up. How often do you use every square inch of space in the Merc anyway.
More often than you'd might expect, often with family, luggage and dogs, or loaded with work equipment and then into ULEZ - which the Freelander cant go into
Matt we are quite different in some ways 🤔, my dogs travel in comfort up front and Mrs rides in the back 😂, bro your getting too soft , give her a bowl of water , kibble and she’d love it 👌🏻.
I always thought removing tint was harder than installing it, but these guys did an excellent job and the new tint looks great! Glad you were able to fix some of the other issues on Hippo as well.
And now you will be able to tow Bob the folding caravan - oh, hang on, wrong You Tube channel.....
hahaha!
To the scrapyard where it belongs 😂

Looks great and that ceramic UV film is a great idea 😊
Hippo looks spot on with the new tints and towbar Matt.

Unless you drive behind such car and can't see anything in front of it.

Great job on the tints, I may drive up to Motabars in my FL1
It would be well worth the trip!
Always great to see Hippo on the channel. I love my '02 freelander 'Chunky' so glad to see yours is doing well too!

Heee-po is back! And it's Tint My Ride.
I agree with you totally Matt. I hate SUV's too, except for mine!
Inspired me to get my recently purchased 2017 Yaris to be tinted. When funds allow!
Give Motabars a shout, I’m sure they’ll look after you!
Matt great result wish they were nearer to me seems they are a top notch bunch, regards from Scotland 🎥🇬🇧🏴
worth a day trip!
Cd0:37 - and yet, I remember you being much taken by your friend's bargain Range Rover, Matt 😉
Very informative piece 👍

I was amazed how quickly he got the film inside the windscreen, real skill there
@@furiousdriving Exactly 👍🏻 made it look so easy when you know if I did it 😱 would be horrendous
I might (or might not) have towed an extremely illegally heavy trailer with our old Freelander 1 TD4, and it towed it like it was nothing.

its become its signature, cant change it now!
Nah - change it back over to the correct configuration setup & then see if HubNut notices the change... ;)

Id have to drive it there, like the old amphibious Series Land Rovers
Hippo Lebowski 😎
Watching the fitting of the window coating was amazing. I have problems fitting a screen protector to my phone!😂
Id have got dog hair in there for sure!

Great stuff, Matt! Now go fix the aircon and but soms big beams on the front bumper. And maybe some LED headlight bulbs, if you dare 😉🤪
Aircon, yes, spot lamps, maybe, LED bulbs....run away!!!
facelift it - I did mine, pretty
easy
@@nickb2179 I like the original look really
Looks good that , atleast you didnt get the chameleon tint looks tacky but it is legal though even though you cant see the driver
Just take the propshaft off and try driving it to see if the noise goes!
According to Parkers, the kerbweight of a mk 1 Freelander with the TD4 diesel is 1640 kg
Is that with fuel and driver?
Looking good. Lanoguard video next?
Im more of a Bilt Hamber Dynax fan but it needs doing
I never even knew the clear u/v film for the front was a thing ..... 😀
Every days a school day!

Unfortunate abput the prop shaft bearing but Tbf it's looking good now.😊👍
at least I know how to change it now...
@furiousdriving 👍😉
Throw a cheque-book at the problem😂
Did you use OEM parts on hippo or eBay parts
the bearings were from a motor factor

What's the story with the spare? Different wheel and/or diameter?
spare is the correct wheel for Kalahari spec, a previous owner downsized for chunkier off road tyres
