Fantastic video as always! I would love a similar video from the perspective of defending your research and methods during a qualifying exam and thesis defense
Politicians do it a lot as reporters and other politicians come to them with "questions" (actually statements) crafted to help support a particular narrative the outlet is trying to push. PMQs is a great example of this. The deflection isn't the problem it's the cynical nature of the question that is the issue.
A huge thanks for Andy for helping us getting better ❤️👍 Just a small request, if it's possible, please show us all the list of key points mentioned through the video at the end, so that we can refresh them 😊 (For me personally, currently I scroll back to the previous chapter, pause the vid at the list, and check the points again)
Thanks for the interesting tips! :) One question: what is the media training you refer to in the linguistic judo part (7:00-8:05)? What name should I google if I want to learn it myself? Thanks.
hey andy i'm thinking about buying a tablet for grad school (in anticipation of all the journal articles i'll have to read). i'm kinda old-fashioned and prefer to read things on physical paper but i can't deny the efficiency and (perhaps) productivity gains from using a tablet. do you think buying a tablet would be a wise move or do you think it's one of those ideas that just sound better in theory? thanks
It really based on your choice but as a tablet user, I will recommend you to buy an iPad, and get a paper-like screen protector. iPad is the best tablet and androids always end up laggy, would be a waste of time and money
I bought a tablet for this very reason, and have found it invaluable. I sit at my desk on my computer when I'm working, and I sit elsewhere with the tablet when I'm read. It makes a really nice delineation between different tasks. Plus I can highlight things, make notes in the margin etc almost as if it was real paper.
8:59 is good tho; however, it did not work for my presentation since one of the supervisors would stand up which means I had 1 minute to finish and get ready for questions
I think you wrote "Dealing with Presention Question Time" - on your UA-cam image picture for us to click on - Was that meant to be Presentation? - Just checking.
I need a sanity check please , but has anyone ever heard of a "2 project" requirement for completing a Masters degree? The pandemic has kept me rather isolated from others and I'm really not sure if this is normal. My advisor wanted this done in 3 years, but now that I'm entering year 3, I don't think I can. By 2 projects, I mean two separate research efforts that do not have anything to do with each other, are only loosely related topically (for example, ocean carbon), and none of the work done in one project could possibly be used or be beneficial for the other project. Another way that I think I could describe this is that there is no way these two projects could be put into a single indivisible writing piece, regardless of publishing or not. They just do not connect. Maybe, at best, different chapters in a dissertation, but I'm in a Master's...
Your question is confusing. You are entering year 3 of a Masters? Could you tell us the course name and university? MRes I think might require two projects. Also on engineering masters degrees students typically do one group project and one individual project.
excellent topic! you can only get these niche vids from someone who's actually been through the minefield. thanks andy!
This is fantastic!!

Linguistic judo 🤣🤣!
I wish I was proficient at that linguistic judo you speak of
Unfortunate, it cannot work for Nigeria academics !
Must you mention Nigeria? Why wash your dirty linen in the public? How many commenter mentioned their country?
