This is the first recording I ever made. I was the lead singer of a Toronto-based rock band called the "Wee Beasties". We performed this at Maple Leaf Gardens when we opened for James Brown in the mid sixties. That is not us in the picture. The fellow who found this and posted it on his website mistakenly posted a picture of a contemporary Toronto band called the "Ugly Ducklings"
+huskyjerk Thanks husky. You must be a fisherman like me. My car loads up either as a fisherman or musician. Two great hobbies. Yeah I'm not sure how a British Rock style band got to open for the Godfather of Soul but it was a very positive experience and something I'll never forget. I reconnected with my lead guitarist last year, fifty years after the band. Interesting that both he and I are active on our respective church praise teams.
Yes, Don. "huskyjerk" is a Rapala hard bait. Glad someone finally figured that out. Yes, I fish, too. I had never heard of your band, but you guys sound great. I love the production style and writing.

Hey, Mr. Bassman!!! Remember we learned "Day Tripper" before anyone had hardly heard it. When we performed it at Charlie Brown's all the fans thought we were going straight to the top. Are you still in England? God Bless, Don smallmouth@ live.ca
Hi Don, sorry its a copy of what I sent to Martin. I fucked off around the world, worked at BBC for a few years divorced and went to Australia and worked at the ABC then went to Japan to study aikido (like judo) and japanese, became a master in aikido (higher rank than Segal) won the all japan championships two years in a row, went back to the UK married Masaki then returned to Japan, made a few milion dollars in business, lost most of it in the Kobe earthquake of 1995, had two good boys in the meantime, moved everyone to Australia to finish school at university in 2006, started a security and investigation company and Masaki is back at university finishing a Phd in Sociology and I am a big nob in the world aikido sport federation and we live in the gold coast australia. Masato my youngest is in Berlin as a post production music producer and my eldest is married with two kids and working for Ogilvy, the 2nd largest advertising company in the world as a digital producer and client executive and me and masaki are healthy but grey and having a fuck of a good time in our ltter years. Other than that, verything as normal. stay in touch. ah@shodokan-brisbane.net. Anyway though we did ok and explored music like you wouldn't believe it was never the same after you left. With you we would have made it to the top but then I have had had a great time in life anyway. can't complain and have developed a good kama i think. Show less

Like the Hollies of Canada. Great song and so is the A side Cherry Tree. Both songs have wonderful vocals, harmonies and melodies. A gift from Toronto.
We played Charlie Browns and the Ugly Ducklings played the Mynah Bird on the next street up. Great days, good music. The Uglys were great too dont get me wrong. We also played the Rock Pile for the Grateful Dead and the Electric Circus for Chuck Berry amongst others.

+Don Reeves It's quite good, Don. Thanks for posting your comments. Quite a contrast to James Brown. How did those shows go for you?
