I have been struggling for some months with many tutorials to try to put doors and windows in their desired position to no avails. This tutorial is the best so far : clear, to the point, properly organized Thanks a lot.
One of the best tutorials I've seen on Freecad focused on Bim. Thank you very much. I hope you continue with this tutorial until you show us how to achieve the appearance you show at the beginning of it where you apply the materials and the furniture. Again, thank you very much for this great and complete tutorial.
This is the best tutorial I have seen so far. I might start making tutorials to help customise drawing and run structural analysis thanks to this. Thank you sooooooooo much
The best tutorial on this subject I have seen. Really well explained. Learned a lot doing it, there are very useful things for our next ones. Thank you very much Deltahedra !
Thank you for the great tutorial! I've just started with FreeCAD and BIM, too. I stumbled across two interesting things : - When placing windows and doors from the inside they are all mounted inside-out, meaning they all open to the outside (using the "Opening" parameter of the WIndow/Door in the Data-Tab). My solution is to place them from the outside and use the "Offset" Parameter of the Window/Door in the Data-Tab to move them where I want them inside the wall. - also for placing windows above floor level there is the parameter of "Sill height" when creating and initially placing the window. Keep up the good work! looking forward to the next of your excellent videos!
@Jaryic To change the opening direction of the windows and doors, I select all of them, right-click in the tree view, and invert the opening direction; this saves a lot of time. The Sill height parameter is also a great time-saver. Thanks.
Just brilliant! This is not an easy subject and find this one just mind boggling. Thanks a great deal for the effort you put in. You obviously use Blender for rendering which looks fantastic. Let's keep them coming. Thank you so much!
I have never seen such a quality full video like yours before. Your explaining skills are very good, I hope you continue like this in the future. Especially on architecture, there are hardly any tutorials like this and what is there is easily boring. Thank you very much for giving such a beautiful video tutorial.
Thank you for that detailed tutorial. Nice to see the workflow of others regarding BIM and the usage of the sketcher for precise modeling! I wish that video existed 4 weeks ago when i started modeling in BIM and had a really hard time. But to be honest, I also startet with FreeCAD at that time and therefore even less of clue. Great job!!!
Recommendation: When you are placing the exterior doors and windows, make invisible the interior walls and vice versa. That make it easier to place them.
Incredible tutorial! Best explanation of BIM workbench on all the internet!!! Please do more BIM tutorials!! :) How would you go about doing interior elevations? Like specific elevations for the walls in a given room of the house? I am looking at the option of trying to use this for Interior Design floor plans, and elevations that are parametric so if something gets changed once in the model it will update automatically on the floor plan and the elevations as well. :). This tutorial gave me hope that FreeCad could a be a good solution for that :) Thank you!!!
In Finnish, "Harjoitus tekee mestarin" means "Practice makes the master". Or, "Kertaus on opintojen äiti" means "Repetition is the mother of studies". I would love to see a tutorial on designing the internal structure of walls for a room (studs, drywall sheets etc.) and generating material lists, cut lists etc. from that.
Please can we have a render tutorial as well!! This was awesome 👍👍👍 I use freecad for engineering design, this video was awesome for getting into it's bim workbench! Liked and subscribed!
Very good videos could be made about ship modeling, showing how it's done in Rhino with complex surfaces. I would also like to see how the ship's structure could be designed. Once again, excellent content.
Very useful tutorial! I am stuck though on my build where I have created a slab for the living areas and a slab for the garage which is somewhat lower than the other slab. I can not for the life of me get the garage slab to translate down to the correct position. I tried modifying the position data, but the only thing it accepts is a rotation of the slab or a change in the thickness. What could be locking it? I made a carbon copy of of the sketch of the main slab to start the garage sketch (It's all under one roof line) so is it possible I have a constraint that is holding it? I could drop a file to you if you like? thanks
as freecad user for morethan 5 years, it is very rare for me to use WB-BIM, i used to use part design, but your video is so good. and is it possible to have tutorial to use IFC?
Hi, great tutorial indeed. I got the 3D model right but when trying to generate the 2D drawing, I got a message saying : ''plane too small'' so I see nothing when moving it (44:40 position in video). What should I do ?
Повторение - мать учения (repetition is the mother of learning) Терпение и труд всё перетрут (patience and hard work will grate/grind through anything) Москва не сразу строилась (Moscow wasn't built all at once)
@StefanoVerugi Yes, you can export the file as IFC and open it in any IFC viewer. You may need to adjust some export parameters in the export properties panel if the doors, windows, and roof are not displayed correctly. If you follow the video, all parts should have their correct IFC attributes associated.
Just as a heads up: FreeCAD 1.0 has a bug when exporting objects in groups to IFC. I think this will influence the export of the file created in the tutorial. I did not test, but I think the walls will not be cut by the roof and there may be other problems.
Yes you're right, walls will not be cut. One solution is to adjust the export settings. Go to Edit > Preferences > Import/Export > IFC Export and check the 'Force export as Brep' option.
@kterstal I exported the file and made the animation and rendering with Blender. You can watch this video to get an idea of what needs to be done : ua-cam.com/video/6amHcXHxCa8/v-deo.html
Congratulations, your videos are excellent! Because of this, I would like to point out once again that FC already offers options for making rendered animations. The Movie Workbench does not offer all the features of Blender, but with it you can achieve good results without having to leave FreeCAD. It is worth testing! Thank you!
I can't get this to work. I put the points in the wall sketch but even if made larger they are not visible when I click the door button. even if I increase the size. I can't snap to them even with the snap to nearest option set. often when I click door I get a window and I'm careful ensure no mis click. I've restarted a few times as sometime freecad bugs disappear on restart. using version 1.0 I assumed it was just me and rewatched and retried lots of times but I can't get doors to snap to the points and often I get a window created instead of a door. after some RTFM I see that doors are types of windows so that I get now, still can't land a door on points though
@pauldwyer7736 FreeCAD utilizes a single tool for creating both doors and windows. You'll need to adjust the presets within the panel to differentiate between them. To ensure accurate snapping to points, be sure your sketch is visible and toggle the 'Snap End Point' option within the Draft Snapping tool. Even if the points appear small, you should be able to snap to them effectively. And of course the Snap Lock should be enable.
@@deltahedra3D cheers, understand on the windows and door but the snapping doesn't work still. does the distance between the snap points need to match the width of the door to snap or does the door size to the snap points or just snap to the point you select?
@pauldwyer7736 That's very strange, because regardless of the window size, you should be able to snap it to the sketch points. Can you snap to the bottom corner of a wall? Are you sure that the snapping tools are activated?
Windows didn't snap, whatever I tried. I didn't even get to the doors... In the end I got Access Violation, and lost the whole file. Interesting tutorial, but the program is too buggy to be used.
All elements are created with their correct IFC class, and the model structure adheres to IFC standards. You can export the file in IFC format and open it in any IFC viewer. You can also apply IFC materials. When exporting in IFC, FreeCAD automatically creates the missing structure (such as Site, Building, or Level) if they are not defined in the model. This ensures compliance with the IFC Protocol.
I am enthusiastic to try this side of FreeCad, however I didn’t find much “building information” within the model. Can the walls be defined as assemblies? And is the model truly 100% parametric?
For a so called beginner tutorial this runs way too fast and assumes you have a lot of prior knowledge of the tool. Also my version of Freecad (literally just downloaded) doesn't appear to behave the same way as this tutorial does, but I am using the Linux version so maybe there are differences. Shame as I'd hoped I might be able to replace Sketchup with FreeCAD.
FreeCad deserves more tutorials like this

Que bien ordenado es este tutorial, me agrada el ritmo y secuencia que tiene. Felicitaciones!!

OK, I could do it, but only by using the BIM copy button, translating the copy down with deltaZ and deleting the original garage slab object.

As all you freecad related videos this one is amazing!
