    I played this song for a friend once, and his reaction was "It's like they wanted to fit everything in this song. They really used all the sounds."

      for me what really gets me as a musician myself is that as i get better at creating, i can grasp how exactly different artists made the music they made, there definitely still are some tough ones that j can tell are truly talented, but mid air thief stands very alone, i just cannot grasp how this music could be envisioned in the first place

    this is one of the few artists with songs in my playlist “impossible music”
    Its filled with music i cannot even imagine being made by a human in the first place
    I wish there was more to add to it, to be honest

    In my opinion, you'd have to listen to the entire album "Crumbling" to get a better understanding of why this song sounds like it does. It's an entire "cold beach-themed" type of sound. It almost feels more appropriate to call this a soundtrack or a score, because of how atmospheric and high in production it is. This guy -- Mid-Air Thief/Shadow Community/Bird's Eye Batang, of these aliases -- makes music that sounds a lot like C418's music. High in production quality and in atmosphere.

    Everybody I've played Mid-Air Thief for has said the same thing..."I've never heard anything like this." In this day and age that's something that's REALLY hard to accomplish. Besides the melodies and chord progressions, the layering of sounds is a step above anything I've ever heard.

    I highly recommend “Restless Song” by Shadow Community, another alias of the same artist. Similar thing going on but incredible as well. A bit more melodic, a bit more structured perhaps.

    It makes me just so happy every time someones listens to Mid Air Thief, It's really just a true and beautiful gem. I wish I could know more about this artist (Besides Shadow Community), I've listen to them since about some 7 yearish and I can say it has followed me and change me completely. I just love this music

    That's why I love following your channel. When you're analyzing the music, you're somehow both objective and non-judgemental, and it makes me want to send you the most fringe and non-conventional music, because most other people just won't appreciate that. And that's exactly what I see on your channel. It's great for discovering new music, something that I have not listened to before. Thank you!

      I love seeing comments like this. Music discovery is a cornerstone to the channel and I'm always happy to see people discovering stuff alongside me. Huge props to the community for their seemingly limitless combined knowledge of hidden gems.

    This album is like being home sick on a crisp autumn evening. You've just taken some Sudafed, you're half asleep under your comforter, and you can feel yourself floating out into space. For a moment, you wonder 'isn't space supposed to be colder and less conducive to life?', but you're really not that worried about it. 'Space is pretty cool', you think.

    This was super interesting if just on a sonic level. It kinda makes me think of a blending of psychedelia (the emphasis on a kaleidoscopic sonic palette) and indie... folk? pop? Not really sure, but I think the home-spun, intimate production and very whimsical tonality makes me think of both. Definitely has me intrigued to hear more... maybe after getting really f'ing high!

    I just re-watched your reaction to Death Grips - Steroids EP. If that was an anxiety-induced fever dream, this is a blissful and uplifting dream. From what I've read, Hyoo is the sole member of the project, with an additional singer added the this album (their sophomore album). I would have suggested this song if it hadn't been suggested here. Really glad to see you enjoy such a unique artist

    WOW! THAT. WAS. ASTONISHING! And SO enjoyable to my ears! Pretty sure it was mostly "genuine" instruments (Although often manipulated) .
    Thank you "Turtle Friend" - you gained this band a new friend!
    Nice sitting this one through with You Bryan. Liked the analysis (although relatively sparse - but how could you remember itvall when you don't have places in your brain to stick it to... You seem to be at least half human after all 😊)

    I listened to Mid Air Thief via a reccomendation and it really didn't stuck. Now that i remember i listened to the whole album and i liked a lot one half of the album (can't remember if it was the beginning or the end).
    Here's two suggestions:
    SD Laika - I don't (the genre of this song or album is called deconstructed club and uk bass)
    And a girl with the same genres called Shygirl - Cruel Practice (i love the album except for the song gush) if you want a specific track listen to Nasty

    Hey, you mentioned you were looking to comments for suggestions. I’ve resisted the urge to suggest more Ren after you did Hi Ren because a lot of what he does best wouldn’t necessarily translate well to a hyper analytical (of the music rather than the lyrics) approach, but his new single, Down on the Beat, has some fascinating production to it, and most of the reactors that regularly hit REN’s music are pretty ill-equipped to dig into the backing music the way you tend to. Might be worth a look sometime.

    • @CriticalReactions
      @CriticalReactions  Рік тому +1

      I had thought about visiting the Screech (?) trilogy but was worried there wouldn't be much to dig into. But Down on the Beat sounds like a fantastic place to return to his music.

    • @VestigialLung
      @VestigialLung Рік тому

      @@CriticalReactionsthere’s probably enough to dig into in that one that you could get a good reaction out of the trilogy as well if you were of a mind. It’s not going to be as dense as this song was, but there’s at least as much going on in those as some of those 26 minute post metal songs built around crushing repetition that you so dearly love :P it’s fascinating how he uses his guitar on that one.

    I think this fits under the vaporwave sub-subgenre but a rather extreme-er take on the concept.That is to say, it takes the concept a step higher and perhaps with actual instrumental music. It's enjoyable but boy does it mess with your mind
