I deleted my insta account permanently about 6 months ago. Haven’t had Facebook for years. I chose the social I like the best which is UA-cam. Glad I did. Haven’t regretted the choice and time I gained back once!
Same here! I got rid of all my social media except for UA-cam about 4.5 years ago, and it's amazing! I feel like I found myself and I am much happier without comparing myself and my life to others. UA-cam is also my favorite platform so, like you, I kept it also.
Same here...I used to go camping and white water rafting in Colorado most weekends where there is little to NO service and honestly it was soooo nice...you couldn't get any WIFI and so you just LET GO and were in nature, in the present moment, looking up at the stars and just 'being'...what a joy....I miss it a lot..
I'm really with you on this. I decided to uninstall Facebook and so far I haven't looked back. So I admire you for this, because it's not really easy. Also, don't worry about becoming obsolete, in any case you'll refine your community and create a group of like-minded people, and that is rich. Sending loads of good energy :)
I quit social media 5 years ago (facebook and linkedin), I haven't ever had any other social media and I'm so happy, I don't feel like I need them. The extra time I got since then has been used in listening to interesting podcasts, read more and to revive my French. I only use youtube and try to use it to learn and grow, financially and spiritually. The people that are important in your life will connect with you: by phone or physically.
I deactivated everything except UA-cam. I have a large following, but it was becoming an addiction. It's been over a month and I am still off it. Good for you for taking a break.
I deleted my Facebook account one year ago when the pandemic hit, it was becoming some sort of obsession and also that amount of news about the virus was giving me anxiety. I never owned a IG account nor do I ever wish to. My life feels more enjoyable, more authentic and full of real relationships to care for instead of scrolling some other people's lives which I don't really care to know about. I'm only on UA-cam and I enjoy the entertainment/usefulness of content creators like you :)
@@Christinamychas I still like to be informed but imo social media is not the ideal source for that, so now I only watch the news once a day from a source I trust and that's it. Way less stressful without feeling like I live in the 15th century!!
I really enjoyed this video. I deactivated my IG & Facebook since April of this year. I have focused on me, family and my brand. I’m so happy I made that decision. No more comparing and I’m not sure when I’m going back to social media. I enjoy my UA-cam & Blog and that all I need at this moment 🌸
I actually put a lime limit in the settings for IG to turn off after 30 minutes of use in a day. IG can be very addicting and definitely sleeps the comparison wheels turning. I also unsubscribed to many people who I liked but for some reason made me feel like I was lacking something or made me feel insecure. I found that I forgot all about them once they were bot in my feed.
I did a cold turkey zero socials (insta is my fave tho) for two months after a break up once to avoid the rabbit hole of happy people despair, worked like a charm. The key tho is you have to bring your awareness back to it constantly as monitoring usage doesn’t come naturally, and the apps are designed to make you want more. I was thinking that I need a reset after staying up until midnight last night watching reels and waking up with every single tic tok dance song stuck in my head. I already have a skill share membership so I’m taking this video as inspo to take a goddamn insta break and finish some of the courses I’ve already started! Thank you 😁
I have definitely fallen into the trap of overconsuming rather than creating. I want to do UA-cam but then "scroll" for inspiration on IG or binge other people's channels. I am not going to get my book or blog written or grow my channel by focusing on everything everyone else is doing.
Soooooo true. And knowing usually people only post happy shiny moments and times, often with filters, just makes us feel depressed because comparison is human ...
Social media detoxes are so healthy and helpful! I love them so much that it turned into me quitting social media altogether! I know the experts say you need to be on social media if you have a creative online business, but respectfully, I don’t agree. My business is growing great without it and I don’t see myself returning. I love how much my creativity has improved, as well as being able to grow real relationships off screen.
Deleted Insta in February for a week, have not reinstall it yet, because I don't miss it at all! We will see, how long it will take me or if I am going back. My mental health is much much better and I love the quiteness it has given me.
I deleted all my social media back in 2013. Never desired to activate the accounts again. 8 years ago and I’m proud of that decision. Even though people giving me attitude for that like “ what?! You don’t have a social media????” Adios
Yes!!! I read Cal Newport's Digital Minimalism over the Xmas holidays, and I was so in shock at how much time I spent on my phone and how compulsively I would open IG. Once I even opened it without consciously thinking about it, and stared at my phone wondering why the app was open - kind of a lightbulb moment. This past year of pandemic lifestyle has made it worse for sure, and I finally feel I've detached myself from the compulsion and addiction to my smartphone as distraction! Really enjoying all your new content these days, and the direction you've taken it! :)
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I agree 100%. I actually had to delete my IG account to have a mental peace, focus on myself and my life instead of constantly watching other people’s life. It’s just me😊 thank you for that video. I’m going on I- fasting today. No phone for the rest of the day🤗
Thank you for the inspiration and encouragement. I am currently in the trap of social media abuse and you articulated so many things for me. Looking forward to doing the same.
Thank you for this video! I’m actually on a break from Twitter and Facebook. I also deactivated my IG recently because I’ve noticed that I always drown myself with endless content and tend to lose a lot of time which I could have used in a much meaningful way. I’ve been spending my time in learning a new language. ❤️
I wasn't counting, but I thought I noticed an uptick in the number of videos you've posted lately. This... explains it! I also got (permanently) rid of IG and mostly rid of FB over the last few months. Freedom.
I grew up in the 60’s and of coarse we didn’t have the internet and I believe it was better. On the up side since I have had the internet I have learned a lot . I deleted my Twitter account and my Facebook because it was to much. I don’t wake up and look because I don’t care . I was shocked when I looked at my time spent looking so I quit. When you don’t grow up with it , it is so much better!
I quit social media last february through March (quit it for Lent kinda lol) and it was so refreshing!! I feel like I gained a lot more time back for sure. However i did notice I tended to fill up some of that time with another vice of mine that you talk about a lot which was online shopping. It was a good detox but I learned I need to be more mindful and not let myself give up one vice, just to lean into another vice!! But on the other hand, I did take a lot more time to learn more japanese and still learning everyday so I say thats a win at least! Loved this video!! 💖💖
I try to spend one weekend offline each month. Phone, tablet, laptop spend that weekend in a drawer and are completely switched off. I really need that time to recharge and refocus.
I love this! Good for you!! I've cut down on my consumption of time sucks as well. About two months ago I deleted all of the games on my phone. I couldn't believe I would play games for 3-5 hours every day and that didn't include my time on social media apps. I also turned off all the notifications on my phone - what a game changer. Now I check when I want to - not when my phone dings. I've read 9 books since deleting those games and spend more time learning and growing instead of mindless numbing activities :)
I quit Insta in Aug of 2019 and have successfully resisted going back, but can’t seem to quit FB completely because so many local businesses I want to support only post their critical info on there like menus & operating hours, and their “old-fashioned” websites are never current esp now in the time of Covid. 😔 It’s so much easier to quit completely than find this elusive unicorn of moderate usage!
I scroll social media so much and it annoys me so much! I'm probably scared of spending time with myself instead of mindless scrolling. And honestly, it's a tool for me how to stay connected with people because of COVID.. I've tried digital detox. I learned that social media is neutral and it depends on us if we make them positive or negative.
I must admit the 'brain dead' mindlessness of IG is soothing to the anxious mind and soul but destructive to healthy activities that you should be doing to manage stress, wellness, and health....I too am planning a detox very soon as I sure need it....some long walks in nature listening to a Podcast or Audible Book....anything that doesn't make me think my closet is not enough or I AM NOT enough...Big Hugs...
I took a break for like a good year or two and it was definitely helpful. I have ig again but I don't feel that urge or need to be on it as much as before.
I’ve been off for almost a year and only get on Twitter like once a week I am still on UA-cam but that I can put on my tv and still get things done plus back at work in a store full time so that helps me stay in check
Ive spent a year off of Facebook... havent went back! But I have taken up youtube, which I only do when Im aleady alone and busy with my hands ( cooking, on treadmill...). I have extra time and get more sleep
Hello! I am a new subscriber & I have to say, I love your content! I found you as I love minimalist videos for inspiration. I adopted the minimal lifestyle in 2017 & it’s been the best decision ever. Less gives me so much more so I instantly clicked with your vibe & content. Come to find out - we both are Dave Ramsey plan people. 😊 baby step 3 here! The plan works & I paid off all my debt once I got focused. I’m proud of you - I know there are times when it’s not easy. I have a business IG. I hate IG wholeheartedly... Even when I think I don't care about validation, I catch myself constantly checking on the engagement on a new post. I HATE it. So I don't post anymore. It's down to once every month or longer. I can't erase the app because "business" but I don't want to use it either. How shitty is that??
I consume a lot of social media and entertainment but I feel like I need the escapism to stay sane. Seems like I might be in the minority with that though 🤷♀️
How did you incorporate it back in your life in a healthy way? That’s my struggle. I can delete it for a couple weeks but then when I back it’s like a rabbit hole again!
I moved IG to the third page on my phone so my thumb didn’t have as much of a reflex. I lately try to schedule IG time to my lunch break and that’s about it. Doesn’t work all the time but just trying to stay mindful of my anxiety while scrolling and I bail out if I start to feel sh*tty
I added a timer for social media allowing myself 1 hour a day for UA-cam and Facebook (the two social media I have left). Once the timer goes I have to log off and do something else.

I quit social media and drinking last March during first lock down in Ontario and it’s changed the game completely. What a waste of life.
Congrats! And stay well. With you in ontario ❤️
We all should do this like at least once in every 6 months!
I agree as they call it going dark on social

Totally!
