Queen Victoria began to dislike him when she learned of his illness and her feelings increased as Ernest refused to travel with his wife when he traveled to England. Ernest wrote in his Memoirs that the death of his brother had the same impact as the death of his father and his mother. However, that did not prevent him from attacking Albert's widow, his children and trying to boycott the Prince of Wales's wedding with the Danish princess. He also did not contribute information about Albert's childhood for the biography that Queen Victoria wrote.
