    I am very grateful to have access to the knowledge you share with us. Many as I are unable to afford or have no access to a quality guitar teacher. Providing this access for us increases our quality of life.

    Great tips! All things I've shared with my students over the years. I'm primarily an electric guitarist, but I do play and continue to study classical guitar. My classical teacher taught me a great trick back in '88 about keeping your fingers closer to the strings. Put all 4 fingers on the string, (one per fret), this also sets up proper hand position with your thumb behind the neck and your fingers on the tips. Then you take off your second, third, and fourth fingers keeping them close to and just above the string. This way you're making a conscious effort to keep your fingers close to the string. Then play very slowly putting them back on, paying close attention especially to that pesky pinky!

    Good advice, I love how people with long fingers like telling us, with short fingers, how and where to place the fingers

    Thank you so much. I started playing acoustic steel string guitar two years ago. Now I use a strap, even when I am sitting, to have the guitar in a classical position and I find it much easier to play like that, rather than the rock position which is more horizontal.
    My biggest thing is flicking the fingers out.

    I see a guy's video recently playing a song and around the 7th fret his thumb was completely sideways,I noticed it too, it's one of my issues

      I also was doing this. I started watching symphonic bass players from behind and noticed their thumbs were not only in synch but perfectly placed like Alan is showing us. It has changed my life.

    Valuable left hand tips. How about playing a scale with thumb lifted off neck for practicing lighter touch

    Unfortunately, we are aware when it is too late. This should be the first guitar lesson!

    What would you recommend for electrical guitars which have a narrower neck?

    • @viarnay
      @viarnay Рік тому

      It is a totally different instrument. The fret is narrower and the strings have very light tension compared to nylon string guitars..
