It’s a geoduck clam and when dig it out of the sand fresh you can prepare it like sashimi. It’s basically a clam so it’s all edible. In Washington, USA they have huge thicker ones I dig them out with my family and they taste really good raw! 👍🏼
I completely agree. This guy will eat almost anything no matter how disgusting but this time he cooks the geoduck! Major fail! What gives? I've enjoyed sushi style geoduck in Seattle, Washington. The muscle of a fresh geoduck was still active and contracted in my mouth as I ate it. An amazing sensation and delicious!
Note: I’m sorry to tell you this, but that is not a liver that you’re referring to as a liver. It is actually the reproductive or the testicles. I’ve never had this type of clam. The gooey neck has called in the USA. But I’m quite sure that the testicles are edible, and I’m looking forward to finding out if they taste good. They have two siphons. One is an intake of nutrients, the other one is an exhale.
"The globular visceral mass contains the stomach, style sac, intestine, digestive gland and gonad" - according to the Canadian govt's website on the anatomy of geoducks. It's both the digestive and reproductive system all in one!
i'm not sure if this is true for all geoduck clams but supposedly it's better to sell them with a tight band around the shell - they dont have very strong muscles to hold their shell together, they rely on the sand and grit around them for that, so they die pretty quickly if the shell goes slack! or so i've read about in the past!
16:55 you should swallow the seeds together with the white things around it (it's safe don't worry). the way to eat akebi is the same as how we eat passion fruit, but akebi's skin can be cooked just like any other vegetables, unlike passion fruit
The discoloration reminds me of the way apples and potatoes become discolored if they are exposed to air for too long. I wonder if this is a similar reaction?
Oh!! That akebi color looks like it's not a real food, so pretty. Also geoduck looks really interesting, hopefully i could try them when i visit japan in thr future
When I was learning Japanese in high school, the way I'd remember the kanji for fish is that the kanji itself kind of looks like a duck. So for studying for the test it was on, I'd sit there and be like 'fish is duck'. It's funny since these shellfish are called geoduck.

We used to eat a fish in the USA called 'orange roughy.' They called it that because no one would eat it if it was called 'slimehead fish.' I don't think one can buy them anymore because of overfishing laws. But I would like to see you review it if you get one from your fishing connections!
I've watched videos where they bite it and water kind of explodes out of it. I think that would be tasty, especially the saltiness. But you said the exterior is rough like a heel. Maybe your way of boiling and removing the skin is better. Either way I would love to try.
Gooey are really good! I've had them raw and sliced paper thin. They're a little over boiled in the video and probably chewy but I'm sure they were still delicious. 🎉
Exist? They're native! It's entirely possible the ones in this video are from the pnw, since that's where the big farms are--not to mention that the name "geoduck" itself is derived from Lushootseed (the language of a lot of Puget Sound indigenous peoples) :) I've also never tried one, but I want to at least once! 💜
don't worry, he wont get cancelled. languages just sometimes have words that sound alike, but have wildly different meanings. a really huge example is actually through ikea, where they regularly scan through other languages to make sure that the names of their products aren't offensive to anybody else. there was a small plastic chair called kimme, which was slang for butt crack in german, and also färtsal for a child sized desk

Pardon me, I spent the entire video giggling like a silly 12-year-old. 😂 Thank you for sharing this!

Of course the guy who eats poisonous sea creatures would have trouble with new fruits and vegetables.
