Charlie, this is where English and Google translate fail our languages but that's fine, sometimes language carries meaning in its philosphy and not in how it translates linguistically. Makabongwe in this context purely means "Be glorified".
To get the depth of the word, in most South African (and African) cultures, a king, chief or ruling figurehead will not enter a space before being praised by an imbongi (praise poet). The body language of the people who are being graced by the presence of the king is also one of humility (either bowing, kneeling or laying prostrate). The praise poet or singer will be the only person who walks ahead of the king but in praise to him. That is the idea or the imagery of the word ukubonga (to glorify).
In this context, the first verse gives us a clue. God is being extoled for being king and ruler of everything, thus deserving of all our praise and worship. Hence the repetitive call "Makabongwe, hallelujah, makabongwe".

Play two year old grandson, who may have played this song over and over in my car when he was ill was praising. I guess it was last night or this morning. I’m not sure. My daughter sent me a video asked me what What song is he singing. When I listen to him, I recognize that he was singing this song. I mean, if you knew the words, it would be so clear, but he knew the tune and the words in his own way that I knew that this was the song he was playing I mean he was singing. Im from the North of Durban, a place called Verulam in KZN.
I was spending a weekend with my loving family when i came across this heavenly song by this great worshipper, Ntokzo.
The anointing in this song made me weep uncontrollably for its duration (40 minutes) and longer.
I immediately sent it to my family.
And then, on the very next Sunday, I sang this song in my Church...
It went beautifully well.
