    The AO-46 was allegedly actually chambered in 5.6x39MM according to TFB. However all of my other sources (including direct Russian Translations and TFB Themselves) mention it being chambered in 5.45x39mm (The AK-74 and AKS74U was interestingly enough developed concurrently at the time).
    As a result I don't know for certain which cartridge it actually used. So instead I chose the most popular cartridge featured in almost every article about the weapon i found which was the 5.45x39mm one.

    Something about using the mag as the grip on guns has always intrigued me. It’s only ever stuck with the welrod and it’s contemporaries, everything else has been experimental. and we are at a point in history where we know we don’t want to do that for a lot of reasons, still it’s a cool aesthetic

      Holding a gun by its magazine will increase the chances of the weapon becoming jammed

    • @964CarreraRS
      @964CarreraRS 7 місяців тому +8

      The entire point of the Welrod having a "mag as a grip" was so that it was concealable. It's a bad idea otherwise.

    • @housecatonfire3038
      @housecatonfire3038 7 місяців тому +1

      The Welrod was single action so it worked just fine but with this the recoil would jostle the magazine around because it isn't fixed which would lead to increased jamming like sabre said.

    I like how you brought up the XM177 in the development of the AKS-74U, despite the development being heavily shrouded by the iron curtain, it is without a doubt that the AKSU got a lot of inspiration from it

    I saw that grip-magazine AK once and thought it was just a meme, I didn't know it had such an impact on the soviet weapon design. Interesting stuff, although I had to rewind oftenly cause I read too slow 💀
