I feel like Mercury is constantly trying to convince Emerald that Cinder doesn’t care about her because he’s knows what it’s like to have an abusive parent, and it pains him to see Emerald go through the same thing he had to go through.
Nah he started to view Cinder as less, ever since he saw Cinder be abused by Salem. He even calls Salem "our queen". He sides with the new "perfect strongest one" and is backing up an evil ancient witch who wants to destroy the world. Honestly, I feel Merc is projecting onto Cinder. We see she cares about them both, but like, they've seen Salem abuse Cinder, so yeah she's not always psychologically okay. But even when Cinder was right, Merc didn't care, when Em is right, he doesn't care. It sucks but like he said, he ain't gunna go against Salem, for anyone.

I guess I can throw her a bone and say she defeated Ozpin and Pyrrha but when you have power akin to a goddess, then there aren't too many things that can fight you meaningfully. Mercury did the smart thing and sided with the immortal ancient witch who has an overwhelming tide of evil monsters at her beck and call. Cinder can't compete with that and hasn't done anything to earn his loyalty.

I like how mercury tries to tell emerald the truth about how cinder really feels about her. If he didn’t care about her he would just ignore her or mock her, but he sounds dissapointed about her misplaced loyalty to cinder. Makes sense since he personally suffered from a heartless parent. It is kinda ironic when emerald first met him emerald wanted nothing to do with him because she saw him in the way of her relationship with cinder, but he is the only one who gives a damn about her not cinder. When emerald saved her from penny she didn’t react to that at all she only cared that she couldn’t get the winter maiden power and when mercury told emerald she didn’t care about her in cinder’s presence she didn’t even bother to respond to that. She simply told them to leave until she had use for them 4 this goes beyond cinder not being able to show her emotions. She has been pysically and mentally abusive towards emerald telling her to “remember her place” 5 that scene doesn’t prove that cinder cares about emerald it could have simply been shock consedering emerald was her obedient lackey and after her shock she looked angry/annoyed 6 it has never been stated that the grimm hand altered her personality

I’ve always loved the relationship between these two because it’s kind of like a brother-sister relationship. “Getting on your nerves is my favorite pastime, but if somebody even looks at you weird, I’m kicking their teeth in!” A good chunk of the time, Emerald and Mercury feel more like siblings than the ACTUAL siblings in this show!

After seeing this, I can't help but feel very concerned about Mercury and Emerald. I am very distressed by what may happen to them. Something tells me that things will not end well for them. I mean, now that the two of them know of Salem's true intentions and want to switch sides, it's possible that Tyrian will follow through on the threat he made to both of them in Volume 6 and he's going to kill them and I really don't want that. I like the relationship between the two because they care about each other, more than Cinder cares about them and I would not like things to end badly for them, because they can both redeem themselves.
I think Tyrian really hit the head on the nail in Volume 6: "All you ever learned was pain and violence, and now you're too afraid to leave it." Plus, I'd bet money that he recognizes Cinder's treatment of Emerald as the same as what his father put him through, and so he's protecting her when he had no one to protect him.
A painful mashup of relief and anger? On one hand, he'll be glad Em is out of the viper pit. On the other, he'll be scared that she's now on the losing side and that they will most likely end up fighting each other.

And even if CRWBY were to try and prevent the arrests, it wouldn't be their call to make.
