Most don't have anything like a chest voice, but most singers don't, regardless of voice type. Hahahaha' Russell Oberlim was an EXCELLENT countertenor. He wasn't afraid to use his chest voice. Offenders should lean more on him to develop their voices, then it will be fine.

I'm not a fan generally of soprani voices. Some exceptions include Anna Moffo and, of course, Obratsova....The cliche that one might be able to sing the phone book...certainly applies here. The chest voice might suggest a mezzo or even a contralto...(thinking the wonderful Eula Beal), but this is a class all her own and I would actually attend a concert in which she sang no more than the phone book.....
Unfortunately, this music is performed today by preudo artists who consider themselves experts in baroque music. That means fake mezzo-sopranos and countertenors with emasculated voices. This is not what Handel wanted. So listen carefully to Obraztsova. That's the way to sing!
