      Haha. Well thanks for listening... most my "how does ..." and "why do.." videos could be a podcast format anyhow, and I know folks like to water change and listen.... which just gave me a great idea for a playlist name lol (thanks!). Oh and the ceiling will be fixed sometimes around 2023 or so... thanks buhbyeee

      Sure thing brother... I was curious, so I read about this week ... I think it's funny that the fancy scientific name for it is "antifreeze proteins AKA ... A.F.P.s for short"..... seems obvious and an acronym seems sort of overkill for such a short phrase.

    Good info lol. How much did you have to read to condense it all down to a few minutes of very good descriptions. Now I am cold and want a drink lol! Thanks it answered some questions for me! (Sometimes my brain won’t slow down)

    • @Fishtory

      Haha it was an all night Wikipedia Rabbit hole type thing... the wiki info was fairly sparse, so I had to read more Scholarly articles (some of them were interesting to a chemist or pharmacist possibly, but way way too specific for interesting discussion in a video.)
      But yeah it was a good amount of reading for a few days...and lots of unrelated tangents-until I felt like I could just speak off the cuff about it. (This one had no script or outline points).
      But, THANK YOU LAURA! For understanding that I try and put some thought into how far off track, I want to go vs. How many discussions about bears not actually hibernating, or fish sleep- I should leave out.
      As always, thanks for listening and have a great weekend, Laura! Cheers

      Yes it will if there's enough liquid water, and a little bit of motion in the water or the ice is broken up from sealing off all the air/O2 exchange completely

    Don’t they swim down to the bottom of the lake? The bottoms of big lakes are 4 C year-round, according to my biology textbook.

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, big lakes have a lower to middle zone where the churning sort of slows and usually due to convectional currents (and I think the pressure actually exerts a friction / stress load atomically on things which can radiate off as heat.).
      Shallow ponds under about 8 feet, are the most dangerous for fish when talking about freezing. Most ice will only freeze 3or 4 feet / 1 meter or so and then the ice insulates the water under it, but wave motion and springs or geothermal activity can cause lakes to upwell and then stack ice sheets much higher in rare cases. (Great Lakes or Lake Bakal)

    • @Fishtory

      I have no idea ... my guess...slime coat and lubricants, along with burrowing in mud and underground...and the labyrinth organ that let's them breath atmospheric O2?
      But now I need to know for sure! Haha thanks for increasing my to-do list, geeze. Lol.

    There bodies keep warm because they slow down in cold. Wild trout can stay under a frozen lake for 9 months out of the year

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  4 роки тому

      Whoa! 9 months eh? That's incredible. Especially since most lakes are devoid of freely available oxygen, if iced over for more than a couple months. The way they turn their metabolic waste into another level of fuel before expelling it- is incredible.

    • @johnlarsen8308
      @johnlarsen8308 4 роки тому

      I've been back pack in high mountains in California lakes still have Ice in July. The trout get Aug Sept and Oct in open water. They eat hundreds of flies every day. They have 3 months to fatten up. The lay eggs in late oct or early nov.
