Thanks so much for this video and for all the resources you shared. Two more UA-cam channels that I like for upcycling ideas and how-to's are Catherine Sews and stitchesbyjulia. Thanks again!
thanks Nanci, a lot of you have recommended Catherine sews so that's definitely on my list to check out. I've never seen stitchesbyjulia so I'll look her up to thank you so much!
I love the dress you made. Sometimes we got to do some rearranging or deep cleaning. It will all be worth it. I’m just opposite right now though. I did a bit of cleaning last week and I had to go for MRI this past Friday. My house needs dusting but don’t care. Last month between medical appointments and being somewhat depressed over believing I had cancer I didn’t do much of anything. So now that I know I’m cancer free I’m giving myself a week off to sew. I can’t wait for Monday. I’m retired so yeah Monday through Friday!
Looking forward to seeing your new cutting table! Great inspiration. I will check out these vloggers. I have followed Blueprint DIY mainly for inspiration and creativity.
Good Moring Gini! As others have said, I love waking up on Sunday to watch you. Thank you for the referalls. A few I didn't know about. Thoughtful Creativity is Alyssa. Isn't she adorable. One more is Catherine Sews. I hope you're having a wonderful season
I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with your closet work! I've got some UFOs and great fabrics on old items that need an update... Going to check out the books after Christmas. I'm up to my ears with gift making projects.
Here's what I did, taught my grandkid to sew when she was about 8. It stuck like glue. He's now at Pratt in N Y. He was accepted to every school he applied to. Now I have .y own personal fashion designer 😮😂
I use Pinterest a lot for up-cycling ideas. I love finding old clothes to use for fabric and also keeping the design features that I don’t want to sew myself. Denim is my favorite fabric and there’s always a plethora of jeans at thrift stores. I look for natural fabrics and men’s shirts are a great source especially the larger sizes. However, I’m in California and “thrift store” has become a misnomer. I’m going to check out the channels you mentioned.
I appreciate the upcycling recap. I also reimagine a lot of my clothing. Your style vibe (and personality vibe-ha!) matches my own. I’ve been squeezing my sewing lately, between travel and other commitments, no closet clean out:-)
Love this content, Gini! I'm all about the upcycle and refashion, as you might know. A lady I watch every Sunday is Catherine Sews. She's a high school sewing teacher in Canada. Some her stuff is basic 'how to' sewing content, However, much of her stuff is very creative and interesting. Pretty much everything she does is focused on up cycling thrifted items.
Hey Gini! Love upcycling and hope to see your future plans. I have tons of pins for inspo and try to mainly upcycle linen in different iterations. I also have been collecting boiled wool for an over sized patchwork sweater or half zip. I have ‘Make, thrift, mend’ by Katrina Rodabaugh which is inspirational and project based. Also have ‘Junky styling wardrobe surgery,’ by Annika Sanders on order.
For inspiration I love Advanced Style. Has lots of inspiration photos, no instructions. I have Wayward Threads and reference information there quite often (depending on the crazy idea I’ve thought up to make it happen in reality!)! I’ve been aware of a couple of the other designers and books mentioned, sometimes it better to look for UA-cam comments and reviews unless I can see the book, I don’t necessarily get a copy, so thanks for the reviews.
@@thebigsewalongyes, there are a couple different books. Ari Seth Cohen, Advanced Style. And AS: Older & Wiser & Advanced Love by the same author. Although I don’t have that last one myself but seems to be more of a profile of inspiring couples. Check thrift books or Abe books, as they are very affordable from them.
Loved this! I have the Re:Fashion book, which I agree is great. I’ve been watching Thoughtful Creativity for ages, and Luz Upcycles too, but another channel well worth checking out is Catherine Sews. She mostly does upcycling types of projects, and she teaches high school sewing; those kids are very lucky! Thanks for all the other recs, which will definitely provide hours of inspiration!
I love the idea of a sweatshirt dress. These cold winter days that we get a few days here and there makes this ideal to keep legs warmer. Is your fabric a cotton based or synthetic based? I remember a nice cotton velour that I used once to make pants and too (sweatshirt style). I loved it… so cozy❤️
Hi Cheryl, unfortunately this fabric is synthetic it's not terrible but boy does it get cold if I take out the trash 😂the other fabric I have for this pattern is a cotton velour, I didn't want to use that until I knew I liked the pattern but I think I'll go ahead and make it now as I really love this dress version.
Just found you and loving your channel! Thank you! - OMG you have to check out Blueprint DIY - her early stuff. The QUEEN of upcycling and sustainable fashion. She DIY's and upcycles the most creative stuff and she shows you how to do sooooo much!! Love her!
Hi Gini I love your I am Rainbow, it looks fantastic with your boots. I love the You Tube channel afrayedupcycling and I think you will find some inspiration there too.
that was "I AM" patterns and it's the "rainbow" sweatshirt I'll try to link it here but if it doesn't work you'll see a link in the description I think it's the first one. iampatterns.fr/en/product/women-sewing-pattern-70-sweatshirts-kangaroo-zipped-hoodie-rainbow/
why don't you make a video about going through your wardrobe ... 1) it'll make you do it and 2) it might make good content ... the process, and the actual upcycling ;)
Appreciate your sharing upcycle finds. My only upcycle adventure was with Paganoonoo’s Patti Blouse sewing instructions. Recently discovered this Sherry Jones YT Channel: ua-cam.com/video/OYp54EAiElo/v-deo.htmlsi=u2jVR_iOw29sX3E4
Oh great, more fabulous sewing folk to watch ... when will I ever blow the dust off my machine, I wonder? Thanks a LOT, Gini. 😠😆😅

I love to upcycle the things that I have or If friends give me hand-me-downs. To make that into something that I would wear

Yeah, even here in Michigan "thrift" doesn't mean what it used to.
