The ponds you spoke of at the first park are quarries, limestone is still exported by the Lafarge Co. continuing along the lake you will see an overhead conveyor system that carries stone to ships. Snow as it does happen is not accumulate in large depths along the lake shore but wind and waves make their present known especially with an easterly wind . Heavy lake effect snow does make a presence in the primary and secondary snow belt of Northern Ohio. Elevation is a key factor.

As you probably know, I lived only about 20 miles from here and know it like my back yard. You drove right by the entrance to Johnson Island. Home of an old confederite civil war prison camp and cemetary. They do give tours of the lighthouse on certain days. Have to tell you I have fished many times off those rocks in front of the lighthouse, and never seen it this calm. Usually the waves are crashing over them. Great video, and will be there sometime next week.

Marblehead lighthouse is my favorite lighthouse on Lake Erie. Years ago, they used to have bingo at the catholic church next to where you pulled in. I always sat next to the windows overlooking Lake Erie. Loved watching the lake as much as playing bingo.
You are probably my age. I'll go to cedar point and ride coasters with you. I'd love to but I'm under doctors orders to not ride them unless I want to have spinal fusion a second time. Its the one thing I miss that I can no longer do.

Thanks for visiting our area!! Just happened upon this video today. I sure hope you were able to see a bald eagle or two (or seven) while you were in the area. Actually, right before you started over the Thomas Edison bridge if you look to your left you can see a nest. As of February 2021, there were 122 active eagle nests in the area. Just a testimony as to how clean Lake Erie has become! Years back there was a lift bridge that connected Bay View to Danbury on the other side of the bay. Once the other bridge was built, the state removed the lift and left the two approaches for fishermen. Yes it is like the ocean, but without the sharks!! LOL

I live about 10 miles from Marblehead Lighthouse on Lake Erie. I love it 49 weeks a year. But absolutely hate it during Mayfly season in June. Each season has its own beauty Winter is a favorite. I like to hibernate by the fireplace knitting while looking occasionally out at the lake. My only complaint at the moment is I live too far out to get walmart grocery delivery.

My last USA visit was at the lake havasu run-to-the-sun hot rod show before covid19, but I have friends in port clinton oh.too. I remember this area at lake erie well. We had lots of fun at put-in-bay island in the hot summer time. It is a bit key west feeling, without the many palm trees, ha ha. Greet´s from frankfurt, germany, ... matt.

🙋‍♀️Hello Russ! Thomas Edison Bridge looked nice, enjoyed riding across it. That home looked like they held the Canadian Geese Convention. I love looking over the edges of the Lake with the drone. Beautiful homes. Just seemed like the lake went on forever. Calmer than the ocean. The ripples must be from the breeze blowing over. Marblehead Lighthouse State Park is a beautiful place. I could have sat all day on that flat rock listening to the lake lap at the sides. A Zen moment. The lighthouse is not as tall as I thought, I sure loved seeing it. My late Husband took us to Virginia Beach years ago. I seen my 1st real lighthouse up close, Cape Henry Lighthouse & got to go in up to the top. So neat! It would be nice to strike up a conversation with a local to see how the Winters are there. Social Distancing sure made changing how we do things now. We were going to invest into a lighthouse to repair it, maintain it, over 36 years ago. I sort of wish we would have. Enjoy your day Russ.

I hope you go to Kelley's Island next time. It's my favorite Ohio State Park to camp in and you get to ride the ferry boat, I think it's about $80 round trip. The lake freezes over most winters. When there is open water, the northwest winds dump lake effect snow on Cleveland and vacinity in the winter. That sky over the lighthouse looks awesome.

There are tours of the lighthouse. The ferry isn't too bad. Last time I went was 10 per person 20 for your vehicle - round trip, to Kelley's. Used to be better rates when there was competition; now there is just 1 service (where you can take your car). Jet express is cool, but you can't take your car. It is a high speed jet boat. I believe they are out of Port Clinton. It's been over a decade since I used their ferry service so I'm not sure of their pricing.
