FIRING LINE WITH MARGARET HOOVER airs on PBS. Launched in June 2018, Firing Line maintains the character of the original series by William F. Buckley Jr., providing a platform that is diligent in its commitment to a balanced exchange of opinion. In weekly 30-minute episodes, host Margaret Hoover engages in a rigorous exchange of ideas with political leaders, cultural luminaries, thought leaders and activists who represent a wide range of ideas and perspectives. New episodes are available Fridays here on UA-cam at 8:30 pm ET.
Quick question: where are folks like P.J. O'Rourke and Christopher Buckley these days?
Corollary questions: would they be considered Conservative now? Republican? Both? Neither?
P.J. O'Rourke died on Feb. 15, 2022.
The closest thing is really Uncommon Knowledge with Peter Robinson. Buckley was a conservative republican with some libertarian sensibilities, American conservatism is trying to conserve or restore and extend the classically liberal legacy of the American founding, some are more or less culturally conservative. P.J. O'Rourke was more of a libertarian. Try Thomas Sowell or Victor Davis Hanson for people like Bill Buckley, Greg Gutfeld is perhaps the inheritor of PJ's irreverent libertarian streak.
People don't realize former Republican presidents would be attacked and marginalized by current acidic, Trump-friendly members of the machine. I'll be glad for the day I can actually, as I have I have in the past, consider voting Republican. Unfortunately, it's no where in site.

@@S.J.L Greg Gutfeld is nothing but a FOX propaganda whore who embodies the GOP of today. Winning and power at any cost whatsoever is all that matters to them. Policies, principles, truth, and values of any kind whatsoever are meaningless to Gutfeld or virtually any other republican these days.
