there aren’t many writings like this out there in cinematography. it’s very unique and fits the true meaning of the movie very well.

Inspiration of the Holy Spirit in both cases...

The acting in this scene was phenomenal you could pretty much feel how he felt trying to help his son with the asthma attack! And the notes hit you so hard!

Gaining faith is how I interpret the scene. Graham regains his faith in this scene. A beautiful testimony that not even a terrifying ordeal can break faith

Are you sure? I thought the scene clearly shows Graham losing his faith. Even his brother has to tell him to never let him see him despairing like that ever again after.

@@CuttingEdges I can't help but sense Graham was regaining his faith in some misguided way when he said that.
"Don't do this to me AGAIN" - if he truly hated God he wouldn't have even bothered to say it.

@@robjackson5245 Perhaps in a backhanded way but in the closet watching invasion news he said there is no one watching out for us and that we're on our own. In the asthma scene he rails against God. Where he truly regains his faith is the epinephrine shot scene, "His lungs were closed...that's why he had asthma..." "(Daddy), did somebody save him?" "Yes...Somebody did..." The greatest spiritual-message-wrapped-in-an-alien-invasion movie ever!!! Ok. .maybe the only one...😉👽

@@mickib1592 The beautiful thing though is I sense he's fighting his flesh in this scene, trying to have faith - he also says, "I'm not ready" - when the aliens are about to break the door open in the basement - as though he's starting to gain faith in God already, I'm not ready basically meaning "I'm not ready to meet my Maker."

Since Graham was still willing to tell God he hated Him it is not - yet - a regaining of faith!
He said that at just the moment brother Merrill was praying for his nephew.
Graham seemed determined to base his saving of his son on the secular/worldly power of love and trust between father and son.
Theoretically, we do not know if the situation was saved by one or the other, but in practice the root of it all is the same anyway: God, and the Paraclete bringing into our lives the word of Jesus.
Graham was anyway telling his son to believe, so it could equally well be believe in the parental love or believe in God.
Earlier in the film we have noted that Morgan is more willing to invoke God - his father even shouted at him for daring to suggest that they should say grace before their meal.
But not even a terrifying ordeal can break God's faith in those He loves, that's for sure.
As we know from the movie, God never deserted Graham, even though the reverse was true.

It's epic af🤘I always loved hearing it during the movie. Finally decided to look up the piece of music for myself

You know the scene that accompanies this - as brother Merril prays fervently for his nephew Morgan, even as brother Graham tells God he hates Him for risking the life of another member of his family. He is determined that he is strong enough to offer humanist-style comfort and freedom from illness simply through the strength of the father-son bond.
Of all people, the Priest should know that that is not two sources of love, just one.
And through the music accompanying the scene we have God reaching out, through the Holy Spirit...
We do not even know if this music is happy and sad, as the Spirit sees only love and truth, and there is always wonder and beauty and majesty and meaning in those things.
Surely He reaches the characters in the movie, but from there that leaps straight out of the screen into us. Our choice whether we see or not.
The beloved Spirit does not worry too much about the boundaries between life and art.
Just one of the many reasons why this movie became special ... and acquired the special divine support it received ... because it went into production just as 9/11 took place, and Mr Shyamalan was determined to give people some hope back...
      With me it worked

Interesting you say that. I might once have said the same. Sure it's tremendously beautiful, but it's also ecstatically JOYFUL. The kind of joy that goes bejyond ordinary things, into the divine. The joy of God, delivered by the Holy Spirit - the film is about that for it's characters, but, through the music and what we see, the power breaks out of the confines of art into our life. SEE.
